It's REALLY the Purpose of RELIGIOUS Education | Jordan Peterson

  • Conflicts often started with religion, but we never thought about religious education. In this video, Jordan Peterson tries to tell us about faith, religion, what we do when we encounter a problem. Can religion solve some problems, can we believe that with the help of faith we will be able to solve problems more easily? Or is it better to give up and die? Why do we try to remember or pray to God only in difficult times? In this motivational video, we tried to inspire goodness, faith and give up a war, whether it's religious or not ...

@@bpmotivation8926 Dear Doctor Peterson, I've been following you for a certain time.
I am a Roman Catholic priest, a Benedictine monk and
a teacher of philosophy from Hungary.
Now, with the Russian-Ukrainian war in our neighbourhood I especially appreciate any call to end the chaos. We should indeed be praying for the
current chaos to end--both in the East and the West.
Please, know that I've been immensly benefited from your work--in connection to which I only regret one thing: that I don't know it enough.

Im confused about something. I was raised catholic but never bought into church. I lived my life as if God exists and I've heard him say the same thing. My experience with Cluster Bs has shaken my entire belief system in not believing. I was told I was given the gift of discernment (im a INFJ) due to the intense pain & suffering at the hands of the doctors here and his npd family thats overlapping into ASPD. The mental health department is displaying the same manipulation tactics as NPDS to me the same way his family did to cover up their years of gross negligence. His uncle said this to my mom and myself "im not here with any opinions or advice to give, Im here to listen" with a big smile. Stomach cringed. Wasn't sure why. I looked up that phrase. It could only be used as if we were complete strangers. the other is what he was chanting in his head talking to us. "that our presence in their life is insignificant. You then fall into the category of those neutral entities which are either beneficial or harmful"
I knew exactly the kind of evil I was dealing with. Satan's biggest accomplishment is making people believe he didn't exist. Thats how I got onto my partner's retired lawyer uncles intent. Self gratification phrase trickery ...its sick & pathetic.
I realized my partner's family manipulated our relationship when he was vulnerable (BPD) and gaslit & hovered him into a psychosis. Its like he's in a cult (NPD'S.) He was the scapegoat child & despised them. and now he's a submissive for their supply. Im lost on how to save him from them
The doc & mental health department got him hooked on Narcotics knowing he was a recovering alcoholic. He was a former celebrity and thats why I think they just gave him what ever he wanted once hooked. He was the co-writer, percussionist &drummer for the Canadian band The Trews. My town has ruined one of the best drummers in Canada over ignoring medical facts. Its already reached our Healthcare system. I haven't fought so hard in my entire life
Basic human rights were stripped. He just co wrote Highway of Heroes which is our troops song. They got what they needed and treated him like trash due to their mistakes. Im fighting so no one goes through it again. They weren't expecting the quiet one observing everything from the tones, body language & phrases. Basically they weren't expecting an INFJ who's brain is designed to pick up deceit. Once I realized our lives were manipulated by his uncle..I started gagging uncontrollably. I love philosophy too so I went with it. Its like im gagging as if im smelling rotten flesh....but without the scent. It led me to sensing the 7 deadly sins. Why was I sensing something that I didn't even remember them. I looked it up....yup those are the traits of Malignant/Covert NPDs.
Sloth, gluttony, envy, pride, lust, greed & wrath. Im not changing my spirituality routines at all bc what I was already doing had to be right to even get this curse/blessing of discernment. Im a bit worried about his huge change in how he's really into it. I quess seeing people i care about change so drastically it makes me weary. I know he's had the worst years of his life the past 4 yrs at the same time we were Treading water trying to survive

@@beethethi7766 i don't even know how to answer your question bc what unstable person can even make life changing decisions as big as splitting with his partner of six years? Via email that sounded worse than my high-school break ups.🙄 Peterson was like me, I lived as if there was a God. Even with my discernment gift im not going to be all about Jesus. He was against being asked if he believed in God to do a 180 on his outlook makes me worried. If you understand the family dynamics of dysfunction within Malignant/Covert NPDS and see & feel how evil they can be.....thats what has shaken me that not only is this about psychology but its affecting me spiritually. Why am I sensing Roman catholic theology when I haven't been an active member of the church or any religion. I feel closest to God with animals & nature. Always have always will. I didn't even remember the seven deadly sins so why was I sensing something I couldn't remember the details about? My partner's family took him and cut communication off like he's in a cult. So I don't even know how to answer if we are together...its the biggest mind f&%$ of my life. Im 45 and hes 42 and we were treated as if we were teenagers. Im laughing explaining this bc its defys all logic & common sense.

If devotees used the word "thoughts" rather than the word "souls" ... I suggest it would seem ridiculous, when human animals die, to say "His or her thoughts will either go flying off to heaven ... or to hell ... or to reincarnate."
Without the word "soul," there couldn't be any religion. All stories are based on what the soul is thinking, and what the soul is doing, and where the soul came from, and where the soul is going after death of the physical body. Fortunes have been made by theologians who taught that the soul is a gift from God, and that women must never have abortions, because abortions offend God's gift to humanity. Evolution of the soul is a huge seller in religion. It means that your soul is ever upgrading and will hopefully soon make the grade of God's "entire" approval of enlightenment and salvation … or … that in the afterlife something horrible could happen to your soul. If you remove the word "soul" from religion, you will not have anything but ground zero.

Ideals change. What institutionalized religions have taught in the past, particularly 'fear of God,' is reaching the end of its usefulness as a concept. Yes, the Master's ideal of the Fatherhood of God and the siblinghood of all people is and always will be, a fantastic ideal. But going to "confession" in a church with a priest, who presumes to forgive your sins, when that's really in the purview of the Father in Heaven, is no longer ideal. People get the wrong impression that as long as they go to confessional, they can do whatever they want and not suffer any spiritual consequences. And then there's that whole grey area in between.
One ideal worth expanding on, is that there is a pre-personal spirit fragment of the Divine Father indwelling our hearts and minds, that is our guide to becoming more perfect. Learning how to hear the still small voice, from within the stillness, is such an ideal. Talking over all our moral decisions with this spirit, helps us to make better choices. Putting our trust and faith in this spirit to guide us to becoming better persons is the way to go.

So what do we as western culture hold up as the ideal? Sports figures, glamor models, the wealthy, obese reality show hosts who pander to our vanity. Yes, holding up these as the ideal clearly articulates our sense of the ideal. Shame on us. Does religious education that teaches us how to reclaim land our cultural stories tells us is rightfully ours help? No. Valuing morality, ethics, human rights and dignity, the diversity of creation -- teaching this is what we've lost and is our hope. Pat creeds and hymns only seem to help.

Peterson is getting slippery here -- should a person give up and die is a different question than should the game be brought to an end - one person may not want to play anymore, and check out of the game. But to want to stop the game entirely means wanting to prevent other people from playing. Think of Evil Angel in Buffy season 2, he wanted to overthrow the Universe. That's different from committing suicide. I'm not sure what Peterson means by this, but it seems like he wants religion to be informed by psychology, rather than the reverse.

Religious education is indoctrination. Not education. When Jordan Peterson talks of "archetypes" and "archetypal stories," he is not advocating the teaching of religious doctrine. Those are two entirely different things. He isn't even talking "divine" stories, he's talking Mesopotamian story telling, and Marduk. What we have right now in Ukraine is a sovereign nation. Period. What we have with Putin is a tyrant, who attends the Russian Orthodox church, and thinks himself the savior (an archetype), who is invading a sovereign nation populated by Christians and Jews and killing them. Evil is evil. The idea that "we never thought of religious education," is utterly false. Religious education is not and never will be the silver bullet answer to evil, because religion itself can be turned to evil on moments notice. Otherwise, how do we explain the numbers of Fundamentalist Evangelicals siding with Putin? Or the numbers of them desiring white nationalism, and White Christian nationalism? Religious indoctrination does little, except to get people to cow-tow to religious authoritarians out to make a buck off shouting a Bible verse in church and on TV, falsely reading the "end-times" into current events over the last half-century, and pretending that they are more than the under-educated, lame intellectuals their ill-gained popularity can't hide. It's a wonder we don't here, "Give us that old-time Marduk religion. Give us that old-time Marduk religion. Give us that old-time Marduk religion ...It's good enough for me." Religious education is a joke.

    • @triciagumbrecht6338

I believe your half right … Religious education is not the silver bullet. Jesus taught that out very plainly over 2,000 years ago. However, it is where people like Jordan Peterson and many other sincere people begin in trying to understand God, themselves, and understand what life is all about.

Even Jesus had a bit of the devil in him. I think that to understand true good you need to understand that on the other side of that coin there is true evil. One cannot be without the other.
