I think on this album, the only way anybody could complain about his vocals is MAYBE on Catch Fire, because Spencer really shines there and some people simply don't like when he gets all poppy sounding. I still love him lol.
The vocals on this song are perfect because it's how he sung on p2 but with the juggernaut stuff and some parts on this album the vocals don't sound right. Like sometimes he puts so much emphasis on the words his singing whereas this just feels natural
The people that don't like spencer are people who have no ear for singing and no musical tone themselves. Which is why they prefer screaming. Spencer is one of the best vocalists(if not the best in terms of range) in the industry today. Haters will hate.
Hahahahaha I can't think of a better possible answer to a youtube comment like this than to have the man himself answer it! Rock on Misha, you're fucking awesome!
This and Reptile are their best in my opinion, however I do think reptile edges this out because of the amazing key changes halfway through and the sheer variety of the guitar work.
When you have a favorite band, it's not just because they are cool or have a great music. It's because when you listen to them, you feel like you finally find someone that can understand you. You feel like you have a friend. It chills you. It brings tears to your eyes everytime you listen to their songs. Thank you Misha, Jake, Matt, Spencer, Mark, Nolly.
Misha's spoken about disliking writing solos, but his solos are always so perfect to me because they scratch an itch I didn't know I had. Does that make sense? They're exactly what I want to hear - not what I'm expecting. And this solo is no exception. The right amount of yazz and mmmmfffffff.......
I just found out today that Spencer Sotelo of Periphery is the same Spencer Sotelo i hung out with over half a dozen years ago at a local waterpark in my city. I had no idea he was the singer of Periphery. My mind was blown as soon as i found out. I'm glad im able to call him a friend.
You can hardly call him a "friend" after spending time at a waterpark. You were clearly in a group and ge was there. You didn't even know who he was. The biggest thing in his life is his music career and you didn't even know that. That's hardly a friend
For anyone who cares to read: I'm sure peripherys lyrics have a specific meaning for the ones who wrote them or one whatever, but the way they are written most the time is very open for interpretation.. and we all grasp at song meanings to fit our plot but for me these lyrics resonate with losing yourself 2:35 - 2:51 especially then followed by the "will we meet again" line.. "I'll be waiting, beyond the edge forever-frozen now time stops again" "revelation" even the solo plays into the theme. This band has changed the core of who I am over the years I remember in high-school hearing the line from jetpacks off p1 I think it was? "In a world of infinity sewn, percieve beyond the seam" that shit rocked my world and I'm ever thankful for it. This is what music was meant to evolve into, passion and raw emotion used to express thought provoking ideals vibrating their way to your core. Not memes, not malevolence but the "human spirit" transcribed into frequency
+Mitch ZImmerman That's on an episode of bus invaders. 100% certain his diet consists only of cheese and crackers, be it independently or at the same time.
so many bands these days leading the charge on some of the coolest music ever. You, Periphery are leading the charge and making me feel useless as a musician more with every album.
5:07 is so amazing. The switch back and forth between C minor and major creates a state of constant tension. Beautiful. I am so glad of the way this album turned out. This song is one of the best---right behind Motormouth
No fucking words for this. I literally got tears streaming down my face over that 'if only I could rescue you' part. it's SO gut wrenchingly beautiful. I feel like I got fucking smashed by a train of feels. Damn, I wish Spencer would do more of this soaring, less hooky P1 sort of melodic singing because I feel like his voice is made for it. So much better than his usual poppy singing style IMO. I'm so blown away right now.
It’s sad when you know about absolomb with was king David’s son that he couldn’t save ....the Bible is such a magnificent source of tragic and empowering human stories it’s why every-truly successful person lists the Bible as top 3 books to read to also be successful
Misha put out over 100 instrumental demos on Soundclick before P1 was even released. A bunch of these ended up on their first album, and each album since then has also featured extended versions of some of those old demos with new vocals added on top, such as Make Total Destroy, Have a Blast, Froggin Bullfish, MK Ultra, Motormouth, and this.
Cody Lujan The man has a voice like no other. Unquestionably my favorite vocalist. The riffs are sick on this album but I find myself playing every song on repeat just for certain Spencer parts that take my breath away.
Those string synths at 4:35 are just magical... it gives a certain feel that even if you're not too sure what the song is about, you just know it's got so much meaning, and songs that do that are just stunning, and make me want to find more like that
Why is this outro such an explosion of great memories, of times i was happy, of times of when i felt serenity and glory and just happy to be alive? It's like a film in my mind of all great memories and just makes me calmer. You can truly feel the sense of glory. I feel like Periphery should just make a side project of just ambient tracks, they are so good at it.
This is honestly one of the best songs I have ever heard. The atmosphere, the groove and the end... the end is just the best. Every time I listen to this, I get the chills. Just thanks for making this
The elemental theme you guys use to close your songs on this album really ties everything together nicely. You don't hear a lot of albums like that anymore, absolutely beautiful!
I cant help but to feel that Spencer is really aware of the gift and power that has been given to him and realizes what must be done! An energy radiates outward deep within his words i feel the heart of A man realizing im just a man.... everyone must question the view we each decided to see life from. Question ourselves even if that question is" Did i love her at all? Im not so sure cause i dontt see a difference. Was it love at all?"" Question our actions and truly ask if they make sense at all.....

They almost totally ditched their electronic glitchy stuff and quantized noise-gated chugging, that's what was different about this whole album. I just noticed a couple days ago. It's a very organic sound palette.
The orchestral elements are so awesome. My favorite band RED uses orchestrals behind their music so they're always welcomed by me when done well. and they're done well.
Brandon I thought that, but the vibrato on the very last note says misha to me. I could well be wrong though and you could be right. They'll have trouble pulling it off live if that's the case.
My favorite thing about this CD is the vocals aren't as all over the place as they were in the past (from what I can hear). I feel like it's been a bit tamed, to help fit with the rest of the band. I mean being experimental with vocals every once in a while is cool, but I like that they seemed to have just focused on the overall groove for this album. In short, I fucking love this album!!!!!
If you dig through Misha's Instagram, you'll see spencer doing a slow siren and he hits the Ab above this yet. Haven't heard him go higher than that yet
This song is really well placed in the album. It really is like a mad warm/cool down for the epicness of Select Difficulty. Well done Perphery.... its so fking great!
5:08 onwards is a stroke of genius. It's like going through a spiritual experience. Absolomb is definitely the best song I've heard from Periphery yet.
That fucking solo. Misha, If im honest your music would not be the first choice in my car. but in a near dark room on a pair of good speakers while alone, where i can concentrate. yes. Im supposed to be working but that stopped me mid thought.
oh believe me, this music is a perfect choice in a car. middle of a night, empty highway, you and your V8... or, more realistically, noon, jams, you and Renault Clio. both ways, Periphery wins.
This song is such a tease. The opening bass gets you ready for heavy shit and they don't give you what you expect, they give you something better.
