  • The Alpe di Siusi is one of those locations that needs no introduction. The Sassolungo and Sassopiatto lurking in the background, together with the classic wooden cabins became one of the most instantly-recognizable views of the entire Dolomites and today are an unmissable stop for anyone that is traveling in the area for photography (but not only!).
    In this episode of "Shooting the Dolomites", as always, I focused on the main bullet points that I always ask myself when I'm planning to visit a new location: when, where and what! We will see together what's the best time of the year to visit the Alpe di Siusi, how to reach this location (which is arguably the trickiest thing because of the messy regulations) and obviously which ones are the best compositions, touching both the classic views and some slightly different and creative takes on the main subjects of the area.
    The Alpe di Siusi is a place that, no matter how many times I've been there, I can't help but take out my camera every time I'm around again. It's just a picture-perfect place - as iconic and over-shoot as it might be.

    If I want to take picture in foggy morning . Should I live in the top of the mountain? Do you have any recommendations for hotel? thanks^^

      Hi! If you want to shoot in the morning - you won't have any problems driving till Compatch since the road will close at 9AM (and sunrise is before that time), so you can take any hotel in Siusi or Castelrotto (the two villages at the bottom of the mountain). From Compatch you park the car and you walk 50 minutes to the area where all the wooden cabins are.
      If you prefer to get an hotel in the area where the cabins are, there are a few hotels but they are veeery expensive: you can check Hotel Icaro, Adler Lodge Alpe and SportHotel Sonne. These three hotels are the best positioned - you will avoid the walk since you can get a permit to drive all the way to the hotel with your car and in the morning you will have to just walk for 5/10 minutes as you already are in the best area. Hope this helps!

    Hi, thanks for your video. Is it allowed to drive to the shooting point before 9am or we still have to park at Compastch and walk 50m.

      You still have to park the car in Compatch and then walk for 50 minutes, no matter what’s the time unfortunately. That last piece of road is always closed to public. Having said that, you will often see people (unaware or not) that will keep driving and risk the fine.

    • @leonardopapera
      @leonardopapera  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      The only way is by feet! You can park your car in Compatch and from there walk for approx. 1 hour to reach the area from where I filmed.

    hi, do you think ride a vespa is dangerous using the same road for car?

    • @leonardopapera
      @leonardopapera  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Not dangerous, but if you aim to arrive at the photo point with it the same rules of cars also applies for vespa - so you still have to walk on that final bit of road! :)

    Hi! I have heard that there is a parking ban at P1/P2 carparks from 11pm-6am, however in summer the sunrise time is around 5am. Would it be an issue if i still park at 4am ?

    • @leonardopapera
      @leonardopapera  2 หลายเดือนก่อน

      I think the ban is mostly referred to people that are looking to sleep there overnight!
      I wouldn’t worry too much about arriving there early in the morning - I never heard of anyone controlling the parking lots at 4AM! 🤣 I wouldn’t worry in the slightest!

      @@leonardopapera Thanks a lot! That makes sense! I was just worrying when i came back later on they would charged me for parking there before they even arrive haha

    if i park my car and took few photos till 10 am, how do i get home if the road is closed?

    • @leonardopapera
      @leonardopapera  8 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      The road from Compatch to the bottom of the valley (Siusi) is always open; the limitation exists for the people trying to drive up the road from 9AM, but not for those who are already up there and want to drive down. If you parked your car in Compatch before 9AM, you can drive back down at anytime during the day! Hope I explained myself!

    • @leonardopapera
      @leonardopapera  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      You can take a rental bike (or e-bike) from Compatch, but you probably have to rent it the day earlier if you want to do sunrise as they are closed early in the morning! :)

    Are you sure u can fly with Drone UAS in that Park area? it's kind restricted by Enac Laws. btw great video and good tips, really good mood and nice pictures you take. thanks for all advice. really appricieted.

    • @leonardopapera
      @leonardopapera  ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Mattia! Ciao!
      If you check on D-Flight, you will see that there’s an “okay” fly-area in the area above Compatch and it’s surroundings, included the piece of road that goes into the Alpe di Siusi. It’s a small area between all the different No-fly zones, but yes, you can (of course if you have all the necessary requirements like license, insurance, etc). Next to it, there’s another area where flying is permitted only up to 45m - which is still good enough for these kind of shots.
      I hope this helps! Thank you for your comment, I’m glad you appreciated! ☺️

    good advice.. thank you.. we are visiting late March. can we take a bus to compatsch from Ortisei? we will have a rental car but rather not deal with icy roads.

    • @leonardopapera
      @leonardopapera  ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Sorry for the late answer, I’ve been traveling in Lapland these days and haven’t checked the channel!
      There are plenty of busses and also a cable car from Ortisei to Compatch (and viceversa) at all times. Also, the roads are quite clear generally (unless you get a strong snowfall the night before or something like that), so you should be safe to drive there. Obviously till Compatch, as after that it’s a limited traffic area and it’s also probably closed due to snow!
