I was the same way until about 2 months ago. I got some inlines to try something new, and man... I get the "rivalry," but both are a blast... and honestly... I am starting to love wheels on me more than me on a board with wheels. Crazy Give it a shot. Once it clicks and you aren't thinking about your feet anymore, there is nothing like it.
The flat ground / mushroom / wizard stuff was honestly just what aggressive blading needed, just something to remind us that we barely even scratched the surface.
Trying wizard frames made me realize that I don't rollerblade, I just grind. When you first experience that "ice feeling" of the wizard setup... OMFG! Wizard and aggressive are a positive feedback loop, and I'm stoked about it!
As someone who does not skate, but grew up in the hey day of all things "extreme" on wheels, I'm really enjoying these videos. It's fun learning about a subculture like this still going strong and evolving.
As someone in that primary age-range, wizard skating made it seem like coming back to rollerblading in my mid 30s still left me with something awesome to practice, without the added risk of what aggressive seemed to present to me as a novice. Thanks for speaking to that! Also I was like "goddamn that looks pretty and fun. I want"
Yea it seemed logical to me. Wizard gives such a good challenge as well. So technical but also benefits from that fact it feels great just rolling about.

I grew up in the Senate Skate era. I've broken almost every bone in my body aggressive skating. I'm definitely in that age bracket and haven't skated in over a decade. I've never heard of Wizard before. Maybe I've found my new thing 🤔
Magic vid! I felt like the biggest limitation to aggressive blading in the x games days was that it was so busy emulating skateboarding tricks, including grabbing your skates. Not only was it limiting and inherently a little silly to casual audiences, it creates a muddy silhouette. Those wizard inspired grinds and slides do a great job of changing the body into dynamic, directional, graceful S and C curves 👌 playing with traction is sick too, breaking into slides while crossing banks/transitions etc.
I'd like to see bladers take on some parkour influence too - if i haven't just missed it - with tye variety of body shapes they create. jordan-like extensions, horizontal lines, pivoting on hands etc.
There is a fair few people who has dived into the parkour type blading. It’s doesn’t seem to catch on with the majority. I think it’s too much of it’s own thing and not really skates centric.
It's the salmon and butter background images for me. And yeah, wizard skating is something indeed contagious. It's like you can now commute through a city in a stylish way 😁

Having recently turned 40 and been pretty into aggressive blading in my teens I’ve picked up a set of blades again, I always skated a flat set up back then so went for what I was used to and I’m really glad I did as hopefully it will open up possibilities for this more flow inspired type of stuff which should be a bit kinder on my body 👍🏼
Just wanted to say a general thank you to you and the others making great content, as well as the designers making these awesome products. Completely reignited the joy I felt from skating as a kid in the 90's, with no ego, just fun. Im a old fart now that doesn't bounce like I used to, but I still love watching my kids at the skate park. Almost 40 and can't wait to get home and strap the skates on.

@TomMoyse Agreed. To make sure this great sport, that offers so much variety, to survive is to spread it to the next generation in a open and inviting way. You can go big and fast. You can just flow around town in a fun and interactive way of excersize. It can also be expressive and artistic. A little something for anyone's interest. The big reason that skateboarding and snowboarding got so big, that no one talks about, is that they are the children of surfing. The most copied culture of any counter culture. My father used to own a surf shop, and he didn't make money on the boards and actual surfers. He made money on the the kids buying clothes to look like surfers. The sport grew to fast when it started and was destined for failure, because of the over saturation and a shitty stigma. I just hope this new generation keeps the " Live and let live" ideals, and makes it more accessible to join.

Its very interesting to see how inline will develop in the future, feels like there is still so much to invent and discover! I hope agg and wizard skaters will think of themselves more and more like dancers. In my eyes both do expressive performance art. Especially arms seem like very unchartered territory :D
Awesome insights into rollerblading and it's history. The age demographics bit really interested me because I'm late 20's just trying to start out, and I truly have zero desire to get severely hurt doing something like aggressive skating. Seeing Wizard Skate videos is definitely what inspired me to try because it looks really fun without being so extreme.
This is awesome! I've been skating for years without being aware of wizard frames or any kind of rocker (besides anti-rocker)! I've been missing out on so much fun! Got some endless frames recently and learning to wizard skate.
It's crazy how evolution of parkour and rollerblading has big similarities. back in 2006-2008 videos was only about single tricks or few connections, but then one video from Oleg Vorslav who was dancing with obstacles brought style into it parkour and totaly change the approache.

Out of all 20-40 skaterboarders we rolled around with back in the day, there was one friend who rollerbladed and it was sick to see. This was cool to watch and get some backstory on, reminds me of the changes skateboarding seen with Rodney Mullen and the like.
I’m sure I mentioned this on one of your earlier wizard vids.. I’ve been watching the mushroom blading guys since their early TH-cam days. Always loved it and tried to get others into it. People in my groups still prefer handrails.. I have to say I bloody love seeing elements from mushroom/wizard styles, it’s great to see people so in control of their tricks. Like you said Tom, it’s like the next level unlock of skating. I just wish more people would open their eyes to how much better tricks look now due to this influence. Thanks for the great vid dude 🤘
I think a lot of people can see where the influence is coming from. I think just generally skating is changing and there is more of a focus on making it all look really good
Great vid Tom! I always keep an eye out for agg skaters that give it an extra bit of panache, and it’s usually a side effect of them having skated rockered/wizard. It all just serves to enhance the illusions of floating/hovering so I hope traditional grinder bladers see wizard as just being able to grind and do switchups on the ground. No rails needed!
I think the resistance to wizard influence comes from it looking fun and that that pushes rollerblading back toward its early status as being less manly than skateboarding. Thoughts?
Thanks dude. That floating/hovering is a great way to look at it. Yes, I think the resistance is due to that deep rooted fear of being judged. The moves don’t scream risk or danger and therefore have no value to those people and how they see skating.

I've not roller bladed in years. I never did any sort of grinding, but definitely a lot of speed skate and slight rolling on two wheels, and spinning in place. I miss doing that. Been looking into a new pair of skates and letting it settle, then I came across this video and wow, 90mm with a wizard frame would be such a delight to relive my childhood experience again on a new level.
I’d love to see you do 9 club style set up break downs with skaters. Like what brand wheels frames, size and all that. So interesting to hear how it effects the skating, and I think your big enough that some of these pros might actually do a zoom interview, and talk about what they do, what they’ve tried in the past, and why they like what they like. Idk the wizard section of this where you were talking about aggressive skaters playing with their set ups really made me think about this.
Same here. I simply don’t find any sports other than agg skating enjoyable but as I age I need to exercise. This has given me the opportunity to get healthy again.

But I like the skating rink grow in up jus didn’t get in to doing tricks I had mission skate which is jus roller hockey most the guys I knew road the Bauers
If I ever got beyond beginner skating, Wizard Skates would definitely be where I go. I'm not looking to risk my life on rails and ledges, I just want to have as much fun cruising as possible, and if I can glide better that's my jam. Still very shaky on my current urban skates though, and unfortunately the streets in my neighborhood aren't as smooth as I was hoping so it's not quite as fun to go blading locally as I had hoped.
@@TomMoyse I'm sure there are, I'd just have to scout some out. I have a pair of RollerBlade RB Cruisers. They seemed like a solid entry level hard shell skate with the right amount of support. I do wonder if I should've gotten a size larger as there is basically no wiggle room for my toes but I figured that's give me more control. The first time I took them out I was out for 2 hours in a mega crowded community center. It's a miracle I only fell once and on very soft grass.
My dad roller bladed in the late 90’s and some of my first memories are him back flipping over me and my brother while we stand on the Funbox. Back when ramps were massive.
Even better I still have his blades from when he was sponsored by Oxygen. A super OG brand that I doubt is around still. Mans was wild and passed it on to his sons.
I just bought my first pair of aggressive skates at 29y/o and i think im gonna be spending a lot of time trying to work with this style. So smooth, and less dangerous haha
It felt good to get back on skates. I'm riding the 5-wheel Endless Arc on Them 909's. The way the 5 wheel setups work, you still feel low to the ground due to the outer 2 wheels being rockered the most. Translates well for a UFS agressive rider. I'm not very good at wizard tricks but they fell awesome just cruising. But the best part is at the skate park. Muscle memory must be a real thing because I was surprised how effortlessly I picked it up after almost 25 years. I have a 5th wheel instead of h-block but the smooth, speedy ride that is super stable feels awesome on everything from the transitions to bumpy surfaces. I feel like I'm straight gliding out there. Can't wait to keep getting better and checking out new spots!
I came from speedskating, aggressive skating and some roller hockey and took up wizard skating again after 15 years. Stopped for another year again and realised i want to pick it up again. You can never and should never get skating out of your system. Its healthy and fun and addictive!
I find it funny you're saying people only recently like to watch others who are completely one with their blades when that's basically been the foundation of every action sport ever. I might be biased though because I love seeing technical play with anyone on wheels vs just hucking yourself off of a roof, though that's pretty gnar to see someone have both sides of that coin. Yes, the trend in rollerblading was very stunt focused for a long time - I also much prefer seeing style, control and fluidity and I’m more than sure lots of people were looking out for that back in the day, but it just wasn’t what was driving the trend. These days is far more present. Cheers for the comment
It should be mentioned that this development was 100% TH-cam driven. Discovering ShopTask and Wizard skating while it was all brand-new was very inspiring. There are a bunch of “city-skaters” who revamped the image of rollerblading around this same time, showing that the true potential of rollerblades lay in high speed flow and not trying and failing to copy skateboarding. Personally I see the parallels with skiing, which offers the same forward-facing orientation and foot independence that allows for high-speed control and flow. The longer length of the wizard frame is key here, offering stability similar to skis in that way.
My personal opinion it's not only the next big thing for the sport, but it also adds more style to the aggressive, and now we have more style of aggressive now, we got the traditional go big or go home that are willing to risk the high jumps and gaps, and we got the tech bladers now, making the sport more diverse than ever, before people used to look at it like you were limited with blades because it's strapped to your feet compared to a skateboard where you can flip the board around, I think the wizard blading really helped bring flatgound to rollerblading.
A lot of the elements of what you call wizard skating, foot work, manuals, toe rolls, etc whilst also using urban terrain. I was doing around Sydney Australia, on roller skates in the late 80's, then when the 1st inline skates became affordable in the early 90's we did the same on them until aggressive inline became a thing. So I see this as coming full circle almost. But the combinations do look fun :)
Yea it’s take influence from lots of style, but the great thing about it is you can push it so much further. Better energy transfer, but flowing movements and so on
I love to see the marriage of aggressive and wizard skating with some urban sprinkled on it. As much as I love aggressive skating seeing grinds all day gets tiring but what these dudes are doing right now has all my attention
@TomMoyse Slalom without cones was once called Shadow Freestyle Slalom or Shadow Slalom. Wizard Skating is nice of course.. but we need to pay more homage to the originals. You're good at documentary videos so you should try doing it ✌️

There is also differences between shadow freestyle and wizard in terms of what moves are being performed and equipment used. When I started skating as an adult I could not even begin to consider big wheel skates or rec skates as I called them. I thought I'd never do that, but then my local skatepark got demolished and I could barely skate once a week and I was tipped over the edge. Started on a basic 4*80 and got hooked on the flowiness. Now I have a few big wheel frames and I love the feeling of being on the roll. Great video once again Boss Man 👏🙌🔥
You can also use any flat frame with longer wheelbase... Kaltik Baats for example are just over 100 bucks ready to roll (UFS)... Cheapest ufs rockered frame is Kizer Element 90, cheapest 165 rockered FR freeride, you should get these under 150 Euro... Or for 250$ you get complete Flying Eagle X5D skates 😉
if you havent yet, air gear is the #1 blading anime to watch. those electric powwered 2x 120mm anti rocker low boots dont look comfortable .. but the animation of those moves makes it look SO much fun. i used to do vert ramps in the late 90s, and after a long break, try to get back into the hobby in my late 30s, on 3x100mm hyper stripe 100, that barely start to break in to a natural rocker under a powerslide next 100 setup. they sure are fast and spinny and grippy. but where do i go next, from the grocery store

Reminds me how every discipline in skateboarding can help you or influence every other discipline. The freestyle gave birth to more tech in street skating. I'm checking the stuff around @6:58 and I can't help but think there might be some things that can be learned for the board from the blades, and for the blades off the board. Those tricks look a lot like tech sliding physics. It's just cool, I want all the extreme sports and all disciplines to get respect and be able to help each other grow.
I did Ice hockey in middle school, we always messed around with very similar spins and tricks like wizard. Ice just asks for that flow. I'm 30 year old skateboarder trying to get into aggressive to lessen the injury of risk 😂
It's funny because I started skating before grinds were really a thing, I owned the first lightnings and I was very good at doing BIG jumps and landing backwards (180) because how far I would "fly." It felt natural, like a flow. I tried lots of smooth flows and stuff we see in your video, completely unrefined because no one was doing it and honestly would have been made fun of back in the 90's. I remember watching the kids skate, wearing knee pads, helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads and even shin pads and thinking it was the opposite of skating, but it had become cool. All anyone did was rails, just over and over, standing still then rail grinds or spinning... they would fall and feel almost nothing because of all the pads and their weight was like 120 pounds. It all looked so unnatural, like they were slamming into the ground or rails. It seemed to me one of the reasons skating died off was due to the big tricks, that if you were not one trick away from hospitalizing yourself that you weren't even skating. There was no style, just falling or trying to hold a pose on a rail. I did a fair amount of grinding, it was always unnatural feeling. Even today I see kids in some skate videos and I can see how unnatural it feels in just watching them... They grind until it slows and they start moving weird, but it's about the trick, not the flow. I'd like to see us somewhere in-between, where slides are smooth. I remember trying to do them on my lightnings, I mean I had to be almost sideways to get a bit and it ate my boots away. It seems to me that more could be added to the side of the boot for better slides at less steep angles.
Aggressive skating had to have always come first due to the nature of having to overcome street environments. Adding zen flow back into skating only makes it better. And actually enjoyable. I dont think ill ever want to spend days and days trying a 12 stair just to never skate again.

You are mentioning only aggresive, as this is the topic of this channel, but whats interesting wizzard is also influencing recreacional/urban skating. For lot of ppl slalom can be boring, aggresive is way to intense. Urban on the other hand is/was kind of lacking identyty. Basic wizzard moves are kind od natural progression of skating skills, and can be adapted by skaters from diffrent dyscyplines etc. It can be platform of "communication" between different dyscyplines. As alwyas fun to watch thx!
I find it really interesting how similar wizard skating looks to traditional roller skating. That’s actually how I happened upon this video. I wanted to see if it would be possible to swivel and spin like that on inline skates. It appears it is possible. That’s cool!
If you've got any shops local it's great to try skates on to see what works best fit wise. Wizard skates/frames are the best quality and the price reflects that. Powerslide has a good range so is a great place to start.
Loved your video, I'm trying to learn more about the history and skating in general, I grew up around skateboarding culture and I rarely ever see a inline skater in Britain, mostly just scooter kids and a few skateboards or bmxs, though I did see a group for about 7, all around 30, the other week but that's about it I started learning a few weeks ago and one of the things I want to learn after I get 'good' is to learn some wizard moves, even if I don't go down the wizard path it still looks like it will help, I just need some smaller wheels rockerd my flat

I live around Edinburgh in a town right across the forth, I was born in Manchester but I was only four when we moved. Maybe now that I'm looking I'll probably see more inlines, but London does seem like it would be where the action's at, I'll probably not be able to make it to the comp as I'm only 17, 18 Aug, and I and my family is broke, but I'll definitely see if I can find it online
At 35 came back to blading on usd aeon 60 and wobbled about like pingu the stop motion penguin hitting every bump in the ground.. upgraded to aeon 80 and now I can dance like happy feet 🐧
I have bought my first aggro boot fairly recently and have to say, after years of urban skating, I hate 4x60 frames xD I see their potential and they are fun but they feel like I have anchors on train tracks, using them to commute to skatepark feels like a punishment, and I'm not young anymore + fear of heights so big ramps freak me out hahaha! I much more like to take my 240mm 4x80 flat frames to skatepark and 270mm rockered 4x90 for urban bombing, cruising and general having fun. Might add 240mm GC HD are beasts, they are fast as fook and if you add bearing with metal seal they sound like a rally car. And 270mm 4x90 rockered from Kizer are godsent for poor ppl who want to start doing magic. The only thing I don't like about 90 rockered is that there are much more 80mm wheels to choose from and that makes my 90mm side jelous. Getting back to 4x60 frames and aggro skating: fun but I wish I was 20 starting doing it, maybe nylon frames and sluggish feeling wouldn't have bothered me now. No matter, I have fun on 4x80 on skateparks and (you should try it) asphalt pumptracks.
Yea you can tell the difference jumping between a wizard frame and regular agg frames. You get used to it fairly quickly, but I say that come from 20 plus years of agg. Have fun out there
Can you do Seba skate slalom style skating with Wizard frames? I was looking into getting Seba skates to do slalom but maybe I should look into getting Wizard frames.
There are wizard skates - a sort of brand. What people use them for is skating. Flatland skating was a thing before someone came up with a ufs frame with a natural rocker and bigger than aggressive wheels. Don’t be a sheep.

Watching this is motivating me to start skating again. Skates are not cheap!! And, is considered lame by many Portlanders in Oregon. But what do I care about that - I'm 45 years old. Being cool is not on the table anyway!

In line skating or Roller Blading when I was young in the 90s that was the SHIT!! I would ride all the way to school and back across town. I LOVED it. But it fell off hard lol.

I started in blades before I got a deck. They where a hand me down set of Bauers. they where an old set that you could see a big white chunk of the top cap. I would remove the no.2 wheel on one skate and the third on the other…. Now I’m an overweight disabled vet. who can barely stand.
90mm skater, Jr. level Wizard, love the speed and the maneuverability. Currently on a quest for the best, free spinning bearings possible to elevate my sk8. Wicked twin cam have been my go to, but I want better if possible, any suggestions?
Is it possible to do wizard skating with freeskate rollers.. I still dont know what exactly can wizard skated do that freeskate cant, for example. And viceversa xd. Im trying to find information about it 🤕
Yea with a rocker frame you’d be able to do some/most of the manoeuvres but you’ll find it more efficient with the wizard frame and boot. There is stuff you might find almost impossible without haha. The 5 points of contact with the PR makes a big difference.

Having recently turned 40 and been pretty into aggressive blading in my teens I’ve picked up a set of blades again, I always skated a flat set up back then so went for what I was used to and I’m really glad I did as hopefully it will open up possibilities for this more flow inspired type of stuff which should be a bit kinder on my body 👍🏼

Just wanted to say a general thank you to you and the others making great content, as well as the designers making these awesome products. Completely reignited the joy I felt from skating as a kid in the 90's, with no ego, just fun. Im a old fart now that doesn't bounce like I used to, but I still love watching my kids at the skate park. Almost 40 and can't wait to get home and strap the skates on.

@TomMoyse Agreed. To make sure this great sport, that offers so much variety, to survive is to spread it to the next generation in a open and inviting way. You can go big and fast. You can just flow around town in a fun and interactive way of excersize. It can also be expressive and artistic. A little something for anyone's interest.
The big reason that skateboarding and snowboarding got so big, that no one talks about, is that they are the children of surfing. The most copied culture of any counter culture. My father used to own a surf shop, and he didn't make money on the boards and actual surfers. He made money on the the kids buying clothes to look like surfers.
The sport grew to fast when it started and was destined for failure, because of the over saturation and a shitty stigma. I just hope this new generation keeps the " Live and let live" ideals, and makes it more accessible to join.

Awesome insights into rollerblading and it's history. The age demographics bit really interested me because I'm late 20's just trying to start out, and I truly have zero desire to get severely hurt doing something like aggressive skating. Seeing Wizard Skate videos is definitely what inspired me to try because it looks really fun without being so extreme.

It's crazy how evolution of parkour and rollerblading has big similarities. back in 2006-2008 videos was only about single tricks or few connections, but then one video from Oleg Vorslav who was dancing with obstacles brought style into it parkour and totaly change the approache.

Out of all 20-40 skaterboarders we rolled around with back in the day, there was one friend who rollerbladed and it was sick to see. This was cool to watch and get some backstory on, reminds me of the changes skateboarding seen with Rodney Mullen and the like.

I’ve been watching the mushroom blading guys since their early TH-cam days. Always loved it and tried to get others into it. People in my groups still prefer handrails..
I have to say I bloody love seeing elements from mushroom/wizard styles, it’s great to see people so in control of their tricks.

Great vid Tom! I always keep an eye out for agg skaters that give it an extra bit of panache, and it’s usually a side effect of them having skated rockered/wizard. It all just serves to enhance the illusions of floating/hovering so I hope traditional grinder bladers see wizard as just being able to grind and do switchups on the ground. No rails needed!
I think the resistance to wizard influence comes from it looking fun and that that pushes rollerblading back toward its early status as being less manly than skateboarding. Thoughts?

Yes, I think the resistance is due to that deep rooted fear of being judged. The moves don’t scream risk or danger and therefore have no value to those people and how they see skating.

I’d love to see you do 9 club style set up break downs with skaters. Like what brand wheels frames, size and all that. So interesting to hear how it effects the skating, and I think your big enough that some of these pros might actually do a zoom interview, and talk about what they do, what they’ve tried in the past, and why they like what they like. Idk the wizard section of this where you were talking about aggressive skaters playing with their set ups really made me think about this.

If I ever got beyond beginner skating, Wizard Skates would definitely be where I go. I'm not looking to risk my life on rails and ledges, I just want to have as much fun cruising as possible, and if I can glide better that's my jam.
Still very shaky on my current urban skates though, and unfortunately the streets in my neighborhood aren't as smooth as I was hoping so it's not quite as fun to go blading locally as I had hoped.
Any tennis courts or basketball courts you can get to for a bit of practise on smoother ground? What urban skates do you have?

I have a pair of RollerBlade RB Cruisers. They seemed like a solid entry level hard shell skate with the right amount of support.
I do wonder if I should've gotten a size larger as there is basically no wiggle room for my toes but I figured that's give me more control. The first time I took them out I was out for 2 hours in a mega crowded community center. It's a miracle I only fell once and on very soft grass.
You'll get used to the bumps. Stronger legs :)
My dad roller bladed in the late 90’s and some of my first memories are him back flipping over me and my brother while we stand on the Funbox. Back when ramps were massive.

Wizard skating is the one
It felt good to get back on skates. I'm riding the 5-wheel Endless Arc on Them 909's. The way the 5 wheel setups work, you still feel low to the ground due to the outer 2 wheels being rockered the most. Translates well for a UFS agressive rider. I'm not very good at wizard tricks but they fell awesome just cruising. But the best part is at the skate park. Muscle memory must be a real thing because I was surprised how effortlessly I picked it up after almost 25 years. I have a 5th wheel instead of h-block but the smooth, speedy ride that is super stable feels awesome on everything from the transitions to bumpy surfaces. I feel like I'm straight gliding out there. Can't wait to keep getting better and checking out new spots!

I came from speedskating, aggressive skating and some roller hockey and took up wizard skating again after 15 years. Stopped for another year again and realised i want to pick it up again. You can never and should never get skating out of your system. Its healthy and fun and addictive!

I find it funny you're saying people only recently like to watch others who are completely one with their blades when that's basically been the foundation of every action sport ever. I might be biased though because I love seeing technical play with anyone on wheels vs just hucking yourself off of a roof, though that's pretty gnar to see someone have both sides of that coin. Yes, the trend in rollerblading was very stunt focused for a long time - I also much prefer seeing style, control and fluidity and I’m more than sure lots of people were looking out for that back in the day, but it just wasn’t what was driving the trend. These days is far more present. Cheers for the comment
It should be mentioned that this development was 100% TH-cam driven. Discovering ShopTask and Wizard skating while it was all brand-new was very inspiring. There are a bunch of “city-skaters” who revamped the image of rollerblading around this same time, showing that the true potential of rollerblades lay in high speed flow and not trying and failing to copy skateboarding. Personally I see the parallels with skiing, which offers the same forward-facing orientation and foot independence that allows for high-speed control and flow. The longer length of the wizard frame is key here, offering stability similar to skis in that way.
My personal opinion it's not only the next big thing for the sport, but it also adds more style to the aggressive, and now we have more style of aggressive now, we got the traditional go big or go home that are willing to risk the high jumps and gaps, and we got the tech bladers now, making the sport more diverse than ever, before people used to look at it like you were limited with blades because it's strapped to your feet compared to a skateboard where you can flip the board around, I think the wizard blading really helped bring flatgound to rollerblading.
It defo opens up some new avenues
A lot of the elements of what you call wizard skating, foot work, manuals, toe rolls, etc whilst also using urban terrain. I was doing around Sydney Australia, on roller skates in the late 80's, then when the 1st inline skates became affordable in the early 90's we did the same on them until aggressive inline became a thing. So I see this as coming full circle almost. But the combinations do look fun :)
Yea it’s take influence from lots of style, but the great thing about it is you can push it so much further. Better energy transfer, but flowing movements and so on
I love to see the marriage of aggressive and wizard skating with some urban sprinkled on it. As much as I love aggressive skating seeing grinds all day gets tiring but what these dudes are doing right now has all my attention

@TomMoyse Slalom without cones was once called Shadow Freestyle Slalom or Shadow Slalom. Wizard Skating is nice of course.. but we need to pay more homage to the originals. You're good at documentary videos so you should try doing it ✌️

What did you have you mind in terms of homage?
When I started skating as an adult I could not even begin to consider big wheel skates or rec skates as I called them. I thought I'd never do that, but then my local skatepark got demolished and I could barely skate once a week and I was tipped over the edge. Started on a basic 4*80 and got hooked on the flowiness. Now I have a few big wheel frames and I love the feeling of being on the roll.

NN and Endless both do something similar, but I don’t know the price difference. Should be a bit cheaper
You can also use any flat frame with longer wheelbase... Kaltik Baats for example are just over 100 bucks ready to roll (UFS)... Cheapest ufs rockered frame is Kizer Element 90, cheapest 165 rockered FR freeride, you should get these under 150 Euro...
Or for 250$ you get complete Flying Eagle X5D skates 😉
if you havent yet, air gear is the #1 blading anime to watch. those electric powwered 2x 120mm anti rocker low boots dont look comfortable .. but the animation of those moves makes it look SO much fun.
i used to do vert ramps in the late 90s, and after a long break, try to get back into the hobby in my late 30s, on 3x100mm hyper stripe 100, that barely start to break in to a natural rocker under a powerslide next 100 setup. they sure are fast and spinny and grippy. but where do i go next, from the grocery store

Reminds me how every discipline in skateboarding can help you or influence every other discipline. The freestyle gave birth to more tech in street skating. I'm checking the stuff around @6:58 and I can't help but think there might be some things that can be learned for the board from the blades, and for the blades off the board. Those tricks look a lot like tech sliding physics. It's just cool, I want all the extreme sports and all disciplines to get respect and be able to help each other grow.

I did Ice hockey in middle school, we always messed around with very similar spins and tricks like wizard. Ice just asks for that flow. I'm 30 year old skateboarder trying to get into aggressive to lessen the injury of risk 😂

It's funny because I started skating before grinds were really a thing, I owned the first lightnings and I was very good at doing BIG jumps and landing backwards (180) because how far I would "fly." It felt natural, like a flow. I tried lots of smooth flows and stuff we see in your video, completely unrefined because no one was doing it and honestly would have been made fun of back in the 90's. I remember watching the kids skate, wearing knee pads, helmet, wrist guards, elbow pads and even shin pads and thinking it was the opposite of skating, but it had become cool.
All anyone did was rails, just over and over, standing still then rail grinds or spinning... they would fall and feel almost nothing because of all the pads and their weight was like 120 pounds. It all looked so unnatural, like they were slamming into the ground or rails. It seemed to me one of the reasons skating died off was due to the big tricks, that if you were not one trick away from hospitalizing yourself that you weren't even skating.
There was no style, just falling or trying to hold a pose on a rail. I did a fair amount of grinding, it was always unnatural feeling. Even today I see kids in some skate videos and I can see how unnatural it feels in just watching them... They grind until it slows and they start moving weird, but it's about the trick, not the flow.
I'd like to see us somewhere in-between, where slides are smooth. I remember trying to do them on my lightnings, I mean I had to be almost sideways to get a bit and it ate my boots away. It seems to me that more could be added to the side of the boot for better slides at less steep angles.
Aggressive skating had to have always come first due to the nature of having to overcome street environments. Adding zen flow back into skating only makes it better. And actually enjoyable. I dont think ill ever want to spend days and days trying a 12 stair just to never skate again.

You are mentioning only aggresive, as this is the topic of this channel, but whats interesting wizzard is also influencing recreacional/urban skating. For lot of ppl slalom can be boring, aggresive is way to intense. Urban on the other hand is/was kind of lacking identyty. Basic wizzard moves are kind od natural progression of skating skills, and can be adapted by skaters from diffrent dyscyplines etc. It can be platform of "communication" between different dyscyplines. As alwyas fun to watch thx!

I find it really interesting how similar wizard skating looks to traditional roller skating. That’s actually how I happened upon this video. I wanted to see if it would be possible to swivel and spin like that on inline skates. It appears it is possible. That’s cool!

If you've got any shops local it's great to try skates on to see what works best fit wise. Wizard skates/frames are the best quality and the price reflects that. Powerslide has a good range so is a great place to start.
Loved your video, I'm trying to learn more about the history and skating in general, I grew up around skateboarding culture and I rarely ever see a inline skater in Britain, mostly just scooter kids and a few skateboards or bmxs, though I did see a group for about 7, all around 30, the other week but that's about it
I started learning a few weeks ago and one of the things I want to learn after I get 'good' is to learn some wizard moves, even if I don't go down the wizard path it still looks like it will help, I just need some smaller wheels rockerd my flat

I live around Edinburgh in a town right across the forth, I was born in Manchester but I was only four when we moved. Maybe now that I'm looking I'll probably see more inlines, but London does seem like it would be where the action's at, I'll probably not be able to make it to the comp as I'm only 17, 18 Aug, and I and my family is broke, but I'll definitely see if I can find it online
At 35 came back to blading on usd aeon 60 and wobbled about like pingu the stop motion penguin hitting every bump in the ground..

I have bought my first aggro boot fairly recently and have to say, after years of urban skating, I hate 4x60 frames xD I see their potential and they are fun but they feel like I have anchors on train tracks, using them to commute to skatepark feels like a punishment, and I'm not young anymore + fear of heights so big ramps freak me out hahaha! I much more like to take my 240mm 4x80 flat frames to skatepark and 270mm rockered 4x90 for urban bombing, cruising and general having fun.
Might add 240mm GC HD are beasts, they are fast as fook and if you add bearing with metal seal they sound like a rally car.
And 270mm 4x90 rockered from Kizer are godsent for poor ppl who want to start doing magic.
The only thing I don't like about 90 rockered is that there are much more 80mm wheels to choose from and that makes my 90mm side jelous.
Getting back to 4x60 frames and aggro skating: fun but I wish I was 20 starting doing it, maybe nylon frames and sluggish feeling wouldn't have bothered me now. No matter, I have fun on 4x80 on skateparks and (you should try it) asphalt pumptracks.
Yea you can tell the difference jumping between a wizard frame and regular agg frames. You get used to it fairly quickly, but I say that come from 20 plus years of agg.

I started in blades before I got a deck. They where a hand me down set of Bauers. they where an old set that you could see a big white chunk of the top cap. I would remove the no.2 wheel on one skate and the third on the other…. Now I’m an overweight disabled vet. who can barely stand.

90mm skater, Jr. level Wizard, love the speed and the maneuverability. Currently on a quest for the best, free spinning bearings possible to elevate my sk8. Wicked twin cam have been my go to, but I want better if possible, any suggestions?

Is it possible to do wizard skating with freeskate rollers.. I still dont know what exactly can wizard skated do that freeskate cant, for example. And viceversa xd. Im trying to find information about it 🤕
Yea with a rocker frame you’d be able to do some/most of the manoeuvres but you’ll find it more efficient with the wizard frame and boot. There is stuff you might find almost impossible without haha. The 5 points of contact with the PR makes a big difference.
