I'm 100% on Op's side. If your sister is making such a big deal over a rock and using hypocritical arguments, then call her ass out. The fact she cried instead of continuing to attack or refute Op proves that she knows Op has a point.
Literally saying someone's marriage has no meaning because the rock was made in a lab, talk stupid and you'll get stupid.

Yup. It’s op’s big, shiny engagement ring. A sister’s only response should be “do you love it? I’m so happy for you”.

Hoarding by de Beers and others. A friend "in the know" said that if de Beers dumped on the market, all the diamonds they had squirrelled away in their vaults, prices of diamonds might dip to that of beach quartz. Yeah, he was exaggerating... a bit.

@@joeschmo622 de Beers blood stone campaign worked really well at first at keeping their competition out of the market. As people wanted 'certified' diamonds and by sheer coincindence they were all coming from a couple of mines in the world.
But over time, you see a lot of people avoiding all diamonds, or all natural diamonds because now people associated diamonds with blood, death, slavery. In the long run that campaign really did them a lot of trouble.

A Duck Dodges episode (Old cartoon, starring Daffy Duck in a Buck Rogers parody) actually lampshaded this in an episode. Saying it's only a shiny rock and only people on primitive planets value them.
Though diamonds have a practical purposes now in tools that need a hard edge. Like saw blades.

Orange hair story: First off the husband is a tool. He's probably not the one taking the daughter to her competitions . Second, actions has consequences. I wouldn't do a darn thing. Just chalk up the $400 as a loss in lessons learned. Orange hair you can't compete. Third, I'd call the parent and ask if they approved of them dying her child's hair. Although you can't keep 100% watch on teens. As a single father I'm well aware of that and lastly, let her ignore you. Just keep reminding her competition is in 10 days. The next day competition is in 9 days and so on. She'll learn one way or the other and hold your ground. Their teens, yes they will hate you but, you better not say it to my face or another two weeks plus.

As far as diamonds, the only good big diamonds are the ones we play baseball and softball on. They're cheaper, kinda (for those who go watch their kids play, maybe not for Yankees tickets 🤣) and far more useful since it's good exercise. Blood diamonds? Not really clued in on that but it seems that those already mined are water under the bridge so let's close those mines and get the profits to those who really deserve it, screw the rich, and to hell with those who keep saying "2 months salary" for a damn ring... until we raise the minimum wage to a living wage so we can all survive.

Okay, 22 female - first off, wth is a tack-cho? I've tasted a lot of foods and have never heard of a tack-cho. I'm a chef and feel the same way about food. I only eat once a day and that's after losing 100 pounds (150# - 65kg / 5'11" - 177cm) because what I prepare tastes amazing and is healthy, so it is satisfying for me. You are dating a lazy child who as he admitted; doesn't care about you or what you enjoy. He cares about his wants, his needs but nothing else and will never change because why would he? He had mommy to do everything for him and now he has you to take her place. You know it and maybe with 99% of the comments roasting him (the other 1% are guys just like him thinking it's normal) it will sink in that you deserve better. It's time for you to move on to a guy who will expect equal and give you equal shares in the relationship. Until you get away from him please give him the same noncaring attitude and for god's sake DON'T GET PREGNANT! That's how he would tie you down for the next 20 years! Imagine doing everything around the house, everything for your 3 kids plus him and that's after you get home from your 10 hour shifts 6 days a week and get yelled at for not getting the right kind of beer for him and his buddies during their daily 12 hour Xbox marathon. Uh, yeah no, box dye is not the same as professional dye. At best, you’re getting leftover product that salons would never use, no toner, and insufficient (both in quality and quantity) developer. It’s terrible for your hair, and a lot of salons will refuse to work on hair with box dye because it’s a nightmare to get out and poses a high risk of serious damage to the hair.

First story: OP, you are NTA. Tell your brother-in-law you didn’t start your sister did and that maybe she shouldn’t start what she can’t finish. You did not do anything wrong. Maybe this will teach your sister a lesson that she needed to learn. Don’t listen to all those people telling you that you are TA. Your sister is jealous. She let her jealousy run away with her. She learned a lesson about doing that. And one other thing, five carrots is not tacky. Those other people sound as jealous as your sister.
Orange hair story: one word, Wigs. There are some very realistic natural looking ones on the market these days. They are a lot less expensive than a $300 salon visit. Check them out and stop going off on your daughter about her choice for her hair. Also, try to remember she’s 14. 14-year-olds do crazy things. What did you do when you were her age?
