Resellers have made thrifting unbearable. They block areas while they scan everything and give you the stank eye if you try to share the aisle with them. I'm convinced their blitz-buying is a big reason the prices in these places have skyrocketed, sometimes to a laughable degree. I've been thrifting my whole life, because I love vintage and because the prices were doable. Now it's mostly just picked over garbage at only a little below retail (in many cases) because resellers bully their way into snatching up everything decent for their profit. It sucks. You have to be very lucky to score something good for your home/wardrobe these days. Thrift stores are becoming a place that aren't for those in need or lower income anymore. The whole purpose has been defeated.
I know a woman who scared them all off from her local thrift store, she introduced herself and said she worked for the IRS (well my local equivalent) and that her boss had sent her down to talk with the stores manager and she was just browsing while she waited. Said she was there to see if the store had any regular large scale buyers, as that could point to resellers who are evading tax and they have a new program in place to catch them.
I love her logic, was all a lie but it seemed to terrify all the resellers away, atleast for a while.

I wanted to continue the tradition with my son (Sunday baseball game and then a Thrify cone) when he was a youngin (so, about 2010 area). I took him to the Thrifty up by the park in the fancy part of town.
Do you know, this place that called itself Thriftys had The lion, the witch and the audacity of that bitch to charge $6-$7 per scoop!
It looks like they've cut the prices now, but hopefully they're keeping the quality high.
Never experienced this myself but I will agree prices have gone up, probably from inflation (which affects the whole economy) & not from thrift bulk sellers. Not saying this doesn’t happen but I have a feeling it’s location dependent to where you are, as not everyone, everywhere has experienced this phenomena. It must be quite frustrating but I don’t think this everywhere, as you claim.

Thrift shop story : NTA OP. These women were clearly dealers, wanting to sell clothes at a profit. This is not why people donate to thrift shops or, in the UK, charity shops. We do it because we want less well off people to have a chance to buy good quality, pre-owned but clean, clothes within their price range. These dealers are vultures. You can spot them a mile off. It is their behaviour which has all but killed church jumble sales and the like. They bang on the glass doors of the hall where the event is being held, before the time it is advertised as opening, and expect to grab anything with a designer or high street label on it before ordinary people get a chance to have a look, and they leave anything they don't want in such a mess that it all looks like rags. Thrift shops and charity shops should have signs on the doors saying 'NO DEALERS' and 'DEALERS WILL BE ASKED TO LEAVE'. This should end their rude and avaricious behaviour.

Same thing with books. Even in traditional retail, we can't stand the resellers who just try to buy up anything that's limited and sell it at several times the retail price. They drive up prices everywhere. We've started putting a limit on how many of something people can buy or only bringing a couple of something they might Hoover up so other customers have a chance.
Goodwill pulls ALL above average items and posts them on a website, so you will never find those old video games in store, only on their website. Just saying….

Same here! My sister was almost 14 years older and honestly she spoiled me more than my patents! Big brother, 20 years my senior, did the same! I could have turned out to be a brat if my personality were different. The fact that we almost lost our Mom to cancer when I was 10 was sobering to say the least! Both big sis and bro stepped up to care for me so Dad could concentrate on caring for Mom. Our bond was strong and I cared for both of them before they passed. Truly missed! We have the same problem in our very HCOL West Coast city, but with house flippers. Young couples and families are completely priced out of the market. It is rare to find a starter home that isn't snapped up by house flippers with deeper pockets. It's such a bad problem that when an HGTV house flipping couple, Tarek and Christina scheduled a seminar here public outcry caused it to be canceled. Our average house price is $549,000.00, a difficult price for many hoping to buy a fixer-upper for a family home. Once they are flipped, prices rise by $100,000.00 or more. Older homes sell immediately, new homes sell more slowly.
@@leefi1CA just passed a new law that would require house flippers to get permits for all work they do on the house, supply proof of contractors & the contractor’s insurance, and all the other things a new home build needs to provide to ensure that the work is done correctly, safely, & to code. Now they won’t be able to flip house as fast or for as cheap. I’ve seen videos from home inspectors going into flipped homes & pointing out all the corners that were cut & explaining how many of these practices are common with house flippers & can cause expensive repairs later.

You should have problems with women committing paternity fraud. In the UK they took 5000 DNA for testing. 2390 came negative. In the USA 1 in 3 are not fathers. And those are children that We have suspicions they are not ours. The real number is way higher

First story, propose to change your name to that of your sisters.
Story 1: She was 10 when you were born. You have always been the 'Lark' in the family. No one really picks out their kid's names at 10: you might 'fall in love with the name' at that age (I loved Elizabeth, and yes, I now have a kid named that) but... if I had a surprise little sister who my parents named that? Cool, I would have picked a new one for my kids. What a wack job.
Story 4... So broke stranger buddy is the first to suggest buying rounds of drinks, but when OP points out it's his round next he's: "Oh, I'm broke." I've spent lots of years in bars and pubs with friends and universally that behavior is considered the height of rude entitlement. That person would never be welcome with us again, and word would be passed around that he's a mooch. If he wanted to sit with a group again he'd better show up with the first round in his hands. S1: Has Barbara been parentified ever since the first sibling came along? She tolerates the sibling closest to her but both younger brothers and youngest sister she can't stand. However, it would make more sense if she is still angry over being forced to be the third parent for the rest. Barbara needs some serious therapy to deal with her issues towards her parents and siblings. She is misplacing her anger if she was parentified. OP and her brothers were not responsible for whatever treatment she was forced into as the oldest child though. If she wasn't forced to care for them then perhaps she became a glass child with each new sibling because she was oldest she wouldn't need as much care or supervision. That same sentiment applies to women too. I have ALWAYS paid my own way, whether I have a man in my life or not. I would never expect others to pay for me if I can’t pay for them. The story where the woman was being insulted by her fiancé‘s friend is messed up. It’s very strange, and just not a proper thing to do. i’ve never had to say anything to defend my fiancé from my own friends and family. They have enough class to not be insulting.

Last story. Wow. I can't believe that the commenters don't actually see it. OP's mom was such a a wonderful mother. She saw it. The oldest kid didn't hate the woman. She was angry. Angry, devastated and traumatized that her bio mother abandoned her. She didn't have that woman in her life to take it out on. So she gave it to her stepmother. Who just kept on loving her. She understood the pain and anger. And was able to simply forgive that anger and move on, right on loving her. And I'm betting that with every nasty fight/comment Sis was just waiting for Mom to drop/disown her. *THIS TIME* will prove her broken & scared heart that she was right to keep her out! Her biological mother "hated" her enough to just leave her, so should this woman, right? But she didn't. Even after she died, she gave her love and a valued family heirloom. Over the other kids. So yeah, now oldest kid is left grieving having wasted all of these years being on guard against someone who really did love her. Loved her at her absolute worst behaviors. I hope that someone wise enough can talk to OP about how much an angel her mother absolutely was to her whole family.
