Thanks for comparing these two models - I wasn't even aware that the 98" TCL R754 existed on the market until I watched your video! Could I justify paying $25K for the 97" LG G2? Seriously, no. So if I was interested in buying a flat-panel TV that was almost 100" in size, I would definitely choose the TCL. However, there is no wall anywhere in my house that can accommodate a 98" TV! But I could absolutely see myself spending $1,696.99 for the 55" LG G2 (which is actually the biggest TV I can fit in my home). Two features of the G2 I like: perfect viewing angles and a future-ready ATSC 3.0 tuner. Still, there's no denying that for those who want a 98" TV the TCL R754 is a HUGE value (and it's also much brighter than a projector).
FYI... the one being reviewed is called TCL C735 in EU. TCL also has a 98 inch C835 and a 98 inch C935 (2000+ zones and 2500nit) exclusively for China at the moment. I think these models will hit US/EU markets eventually. The price is also quite low (C835 = ~3500 USD, C935 = ~7000 USD), but of course you can't get that price outside China.
Hi thx for letting us know! Thought it would be equivalent or better than c835 since its called r754 in the us so its abobe r655 which is equivalent to European c835 imo

The picture on the OLED is definitely better than the QLED, but not 20k better. I think a better comparison would be to put the 5k 98" QLED vs a similarly priced OLED. A 77" OLED is probably less costly, and would be the sweet spot IMO.
Yes, I would agree that its hard to justify and the TCL is the better choice if based on cost. (Black levels though matter too so LG has a case to make BUT $25,000? Just shows when you are alone in a market space, what companies can do and then what can happen when they are not.) Suffice to say, I doubt Sony, LG, or Samsung will let TCL steal their market share where price sensitivity matters a lot!) Prices should start to drop next year among all extra-large tv brands? Maybe just hang tight and wait it out until the dust settles? Excellent comparison! Thanks for doing this. (BTW: Hats off to your better-half for doing the “tv-lift”. Wow!)
I recently upgraded to a 65 inch premium OLED. A superb picture. My only regret? I wish I’d opted for a bigger screen. Then I saw the price of the 98 inch TCL QLED slowly drop. My interest perked up. Then TCL through a spanner in the works by introducing a highly competitively priced 85 inch miniled. Half the price of my 65 inch OLED! But that thought kept resounding in my head, ‘I wish I’d bought bigger’. So I purchased the 98 inch TCL QLED. I’ve absolutely no purchase regret. It’s a superb, all round, high value, high performance, bang for the buck tv. Yes, if you wish to pay 5 times the price, you’ll get a tv that out performs the TCL, in some areas. But unless you did a side by side comparison, I doubt you would even notice. So what became of my 65 inch OLED? Well, my 15 year old daughter is the most popular girl in her class, now that she has it in her bedroom connected to a Sky Q box! Of course, the other factor to keep in mind, is that tv panel technology is moving forward at the speed of light, pun intended. Paying 25000 today for technology that is surpassed tomorrow, hurts more than your wallet.
I paid enough to step up to a 75 Z9K but I couldn't justify paying that much for the LG even if it looks awesome. I would go for the TCL myself if I wanted a set that big. If they had used mini led in it it would look a lot better but probably the price would be a ton more. I don't think I have the wall space for anything that big without completely rearranging my living room anyway and my set has already dropped a grand so you pay now or wait a while till the price drops.
You can buy the TCL now and wait 2years and the lg will be close to 10k i suspect. Even if the TCL drops 50% in price over a few years you are only out $2500 but if the LG drops 50% you are out $12000. I learned this lesson when I bought one of the original LG oleds in 2015 when a 65 inch was $5k. 2-3 years later was$2k.
You essentially always want to be one or two levels beneath cutting edge. There is a huge upcharge to be the very top plus it usually has kinks to work out, like burn in for original OLED TVs. Then you can get, for good value, what was cutting edge a couple years later without the cost or bugs.
Once you go OLED. You’ll never go back to led anything. OLED is plenty bright. Sure in a room with more windows then walls. You won’t enjoy it as much. But at that point you don’t really enjoy any tv in that situation.
My Lg C1 is about to hit 8500 hours and it still looks like it’s brand new it had its 2nd automatic pixel refresher last Saturday. I’ll never buy a non OLED tv again in my life. Only OLED owners can tell the difference between QLED and an OLED tho 😂
MY SLEEP APNEA VASTLY IMPROVED WITH OLED. My doctor suggested to me that I turn brightness way down at night and walk around the house with nightlights only in hallways ect. It worked. But the tv itself was still very bright. Only OLED worked to impact my sleep rythm less. According to Fitbit comparisons
Great review! This is the review I've been waiting for. I bought the 98" TCL and love it, LOVE IT! Perhaps the best money I've ever spent. In this video from 7:20 to 7:35 the TCL was adjusted so it more closely matches the LG OLED. I have two other TV's, both LG OLED's and I really cannot tell any difference between the three once I adjust each to my liking. GREAT blacks on the TCL, way better than I was hoping for, I haven't experienced any blooming either. You cannot go wrong with the TCL, the price is a steal at the current $5K IMHO. I first learned of the TCL 98" from B's videos. Thank you B!!!
I was forced to give up two Sonys from almost 20 years ago FIRST flat panel generation At the time of purchase was told they only had like maybe 10,000 hour life span expected and they STILL WORKED Only reason I gave up we moved houses and as I wanted to finally cut the cable and switch to streaming, those were so old no HDMI. So I can’t even put a chrome stick or AppleTV etc…. RCA only still
can you guys lift that TV up and down some more? i really curious about this TV so I would really like to see it lifted up and down some more, from various angles
A friend of mine who is a real lord here in Scotland, laughed when I told him about the lord scam. Quote "if they want to be a real lord they can come over from America and spend £500,000 a year on the maintenance for this damned estate"
Once we get into these huge sizes and high tier brands and tech...I think the differences between one or another starts to become pretty frigging negligible. How can you justify paying FIVE TIMES the amount for what? A 5% improvement in image, IF THAT? And at THIS point you might as well just switch over to a Laser TV. All of the specs might not totally match, but for the same price you can crank the screen size up to 120 inches, and UST projectors are ever-improving in image quality. I think we are reaching the point where that "OLED Difference" matters less and less. If the difference isn't obvious and dramatic...it is hard to argue that it is worth it
Great content as always on these huge TV's. I allows me to dream of one day having one on my wall I they weren't so expensive to ship them to Jamaica. But for me the LG is the winner contrast everything look better for me. Keep up the content blessing 🙏
Thanks for taking the effort to post, edit and present information in a niche market of the top 1% of tvs. Very informative and a great family affair. Much love from Australia, subscribed.
How would you think the newer model for TCL would compare Giant screen QD-Mini LED smart screen 98X9C Pro · 98" infinity giant screen · 2304 partitioned quantum dot point control light · HDR 2000 · QLED · LeadYao chip M1 · Onkyo 2.1 Hi-Fi Speaker · Four-way projection
I got a Samsung 85 " tv for a fraction of that price at £1600. It's big enough and comes withTWO different remotes and includes a soundbar in that price. Sets up using details from your ( Samsung) mobile phone. Hardly any manual setting up to do. Picture is 4k quality.
I can afford it but there's no way I'm going to pay 25k for this TV or any TV. Technology does not hold value. The TCL is the way to go, and I will pick one up when it goes back on sale.
I don’t see any reviews on the lg art mode and it appears that the demos have the art work with frames but the art gallery app no longer has frames in g2 or c2. There is no mention of lg removing that feature but that is what made that gallery mode nice and not just look like a screensaver. Do you know anything about the frames no longer supported? If so why still have a gallery mode? Please help as I need to know if I should return my lg g2 77. Thank you
The sports scenes of the basketball game looked bad on the TCL, if you pause you can see a lot of image duplication (7:03 to 7:06) in the TCL, whereas the OLED TV looks perfect. The image quality also looks better to me in the OLED, colors look more accurate and blacks levels are perfect
I sure wish you could compare the 98" TCL XL and the 98" TCL S5. I know you have reviewed both of them but at different in relation to other TVs. The other thing I have noticed is that you just don't say anything bad about any tv....it's like you like all tvs!
Why do you have the G2 set so dark? On the very first intro, the golf course green isnt even visible on the G2 while you can see the sand traps and grass on the TCL. There is no way that scene is adjusted correctly on the G2. I have both a Z9J and an A80J and the OLED isnt anywhere NEAR as dark as your video is showing it. What is up with that?
The TCL is brighter in SDR yes. And the same would happen if you try and shoot your Sony LED vs OLED. You can't expose both properly if there is that difference.
Of course, but so is expensive purfume and a Zillon other things. Casino is a scam. A pretty young lady who will weigh 200 lbs at the age of 30 is a scam. What's your point?
I wouldn’t purchase either. I’m waiting for the larger TV’s that are emissive using either QD-OLED or micro-LED to become more affordable. I’m not going to buy a big TV like that, that doesn’t perform off axis without degradation. Viewer distance matters, and a big screen will be effectively closer viewed by definition, and need better off axis performance to be truly immersive. Of course malls have proven over and over again that brightly lit environments don’t favor OLEDs. But micro-led will blow people away in just about any lighting. The large micro-LEDs may likely be the first very good commercial displays in living rooms, smaller than billboards.
@@Radarcb329 you're like people I knew growing up, wouldn't buy a color tv until the price went down, etc. Wanted the tech to improve, nothing wrong with buying a decent set now. My prediction is that micro Led will prevail, but it could be years.
@@musicman8270 I have a decent 65” Sony X95H. There is a better TV out every year. I don’t believe every year is the same and it’s not about whether it’s going to change, it’s how fast it’s going to change. Strong up slope. We need however for content to improve.
I have the 98 inch QLED in my living room. You can adjust the picture even better and get more out of it, Black level 45 Local dimming high, Low local contrast And a few other things. There is also a game mode
The bane of LCDs is the off axis performance. Contrast, colour accuracy, all goes out the window. Obviously here the OLED is just better. The point is, is it 5x better and can you live with the “lower” image quality of the TCL
do u think the tcl R754 is better than the new 98” S5??? What has a better picture quality and is brighter? The S5 I got for $3000 and the R754 is $4000..
Looks like the price jumped on the TCL to 8500. I was about to jump on it for 5k but now I'm going to wait. I've had my 85" for almost 3 years now and paid $1000 for it new. I'm waiting for an adorable size upgrade
I think the $5000 price was a black Friday deal. The price should come back down again around March when the new line up of TVs come out or even sooner, depending how sales go during Christmas. I'm personally waiting for the Samsung 77 inch QD-OLED to drop new year. You get the best of both worlds with that sucker, brightness wise and black levels. That 98 inch TCL would be nice to have though.
@@mikesowell7969 Yeah TCL isn't the best when it comes to quality control. I have had my TCL for a few years and it definitely glitches from time to time. My 65 CX has been great, Oled is definitely king. I'm looking forward to that Samsung 77 S95C that should hold over till micro led takes off and becomes affordable.
This TCL is currently selling for £3500 in the UK. the side by side comparison is good. But im sure if I put the 98Inch TCL in my room and hooked it up to my home theatre and gaming PC. it would be amazing. Also if I had the extra £20k I would spend it on speakers and amps anyway. lol
@@mikesowell7969 I have two TCL tv over two yrs old. The larger one, the 75 R635 stopped working 9 months after I purchased it. I contacted TCL and they made arrangements for a local company to do the warranty work. They got the new panel, came in and replaced the defective one plus the associated electronics. It only took about 1 plus hours. Immediately the tv looked sharper to all of us. No more problems and it still looks great. Now, we're trying to decide which new TCL to get...the 85 or the 98 and who in our family should inherit our old 75" tv!!!
I am waiting patiently for TCL 98" to be delivered by Best Buy which I purchased during Black Friday. Your video and review influenced my purchase decision. :)
For me I take contrast over brightness , skins tones and shadow detail is Important for me , the average Joe will always look at brightness, I took my uncle and aunt out to buy a new tv she knows nothing about tvs , she chose the oleds because she noticed skin tones and detail I was shocked , she's better than the average Joe.
Does the TCL have 2.1 hdmi and if not can it do 4k at 120hz? also please tell me where you got the stand for the TCL, finding one with a 850 x 400 vesa mount has been hard for me (can't wall mount in my situation) Thanks for the work and review.
Awesome content, think from watching your videos iv chosen to buy a qn90b TV. When in the new year will the new tvs come out. Not sure if to wait for it to be cheaper or just go buy one. Cheers
Even from a TH-cam channel, it's easy to see that the TCL can't compete with the LG. Anyone saying it's close are the ones that will also say a Soundbar is as good or close to a dedicated audio system. Hey if you want big and that's your budget, cool. But the Oled is hands down better in every area.
When it comes to blu-ray and HD content, my Sharp Elite Pro 70” can still hang with the best OLED’s of today. The engineers from Pioneer and Sharp really knocked that one out of the park. Full disclosure, that’s comparing it to my 65” Sony A90J. 4k makes ZERO difference when sitting 6-10 feet from your screen, as the added pixel density is not discernible with the naked eye.
@@paulc5389 To help shed further perspective on my comparisons… I have 20/10 vision, and when watching high def 1080p blu-ray content on my Sharp Elite vs the same 4k blu-ray HDR or Dolby Vision movie on the A90J, there is absolutely zero difference in PQ from any distance, especially normal seating distance. The A90J certainly doesn’t exhibit more clarity or contrast and detail. And for the record, I’m not comparing color accuracy, nor am I comparing SDR content and the ability of the 4k tv to upscale better than the 1080 tv. That said, perhaps it’s just a testament as to how good the Sharp Elite Pro really is when watching blu-ray content… It’s actually kind of funny because everyone’s hyped the newer OLED’s so much, that when I finally got the A90J…I was actually a bit underwhelmed. In other words, the PQ was nothing I haven’t seen before… The so called claim to fame of amazing “specular highlights” were supposed to be fantastic (and they’re good) but when local dimming is set to advanced low on the Sharp Elite, it’s no contest between them. The Sharp Elite can flat out blind you, while still maintaining accuracy and detail. I’m a stickler for detail, and admittedly, I’m a downright tv snob. I’ve owned several Pioneer Kuros including the 151FD, 141FD, 101FD, and the 500M. I’ve owned a Panasonic ZT60, and obviously the Sharp Elite Pro 70 & Sony A90J. Of those sets, the D-Nice calibrated Pioneer 101FD had the inkiest blacks, and most lifelike (almost 3D) image I’ve ever seen. Anyone who’s owned a properly calibrated Kuro will know just how amazing the PQ was, and still is. The Sharp Elite is basically a Kuro on steroids because it’s simply bigger, and brighter - and the specular highlights are unlike anything I’ve seen on any other television when the tv is dialed in properly…but I digress. Here are the blu-ray/4k blu-ray movies that I’ve compared between the A90J and Sharp Elite, while the 2 sets were side by side: 1) Blade Runner 2049 2) Gladiator 3) Fury 4) WALL.E Criterion Edition 5) Coco
Any TV enthusiast will be able to tell the difference. A casual viewer? Probably not. But you're you're out of your mind if you think a QLED will be able to match the black levels of an OLED
@@paulc5389 I completely understand what you mean, but once you see the difference side by side with the same video feed it then becomes obvious the difference QD OLED makes, I would easily say 8 to 13 feet is a good viewing experience, for a 77 inch screen size.... Has for Samsung's version of QD OLED it's completely over saturated and is completely unatral.....

Only reason I gave up we moved houses and as I wanted to finally cut the cable and switch to streaming, those were so old no HDMI. So I can’t even put a chrome stick or AppleTV etc…. RCA only still
So???

Very detailed from the unboxin to setup... Fav channel
Im impressed with the TLC price. Quality I prefer from LG but not for this money.
What tv carts or free standing mounts do you use? With the prices lowering on 98" TVs, I'd like to use a couple for our church in stead of projectors.
definitely would go with the TCL!
can you guys lift that TV up and down some more? i really curious about this TV so I would really like to see it lifted up and down some more, from various angles
I would go for the 98” TCL.
Great video! For my money, I think I will go with a QLED, but more likely a Samsung.
I bought ten of the 98" TCL R754's to put in my friend's Christmas stockings this year.
Link for TCL wall mount setup?
OLED 97 is perfect for my Home Theater room in the future.
How come if you buy the lg 8k tv at the same price you get the fancy remote control and this OLED you get the basic one
If the difference isn't obvious and dramatic...it is hard to argue that it is worth it
Stop deleting comments about Established Titles. It’s a known scam
Great content as always on these huge TV's. I allows me to dream of one day having one on my wall I they weren't so expensive to ship them to Jamaica. But for me the LG is the winner contrast everything look better for me. Keep up the content blessing 🙏
There is a difference when moving fast, with or without afterimage. Thanks for good contents.
Hard to beat an oled . I currently have the lg cx is perfect for gaming and movies should be cheaper now too
I need a tv stand with wheels, where you buy yours from?
@M e s s a g e Me @B_TheInstaller3115 no thanks keep it
Good call, that shit is spam.
Thanks for taking the effort to post, edit and present information in a niche market of the top 1% of tvs. Very informative and a great family affair. Much love from Australia, subscribed.
I have a much smaller OLED LG and I honestly don’t see much benefit. Larger and brighter for me.
I’ll buy the TCL and have money left for a new car 😎
How would you think the newer model for TCL would compare Giant screen QD-Mini LED smart screen

Do you have information about the Samsung Micro Led? Will you present it soon or are there, as I've heard, difficulties in production ?
What is the model of the cabinets you are using for all you media devices under the tv? I see them in every video. Thanks

TCL 98R754 and TCL 98C735 are the same tv?
I like the s5 best of all 98" so far. I've said that
Whats the diffrents between the TLC 98R754 and the TLC 98C735?
is the 735 just a europe modell?

Sorry I didn’t catch that? Ikea basket frames?
Shouldve added the Samsung Q90A as well and compare it with the other 2
Why do you have the G2 set so dark? On the very first intro, the golf course green isnt even visible on the G2 while you can see the sand traps and grass on the TCL. There is no way that scene is adjusted correctly on the G2. I have both a Z9J and an A80J and the OLED isnt anywhere NEAR as dark as your video is showing it. What is up with that?
@@micker9830 Shouldnt if the camera is on manual exposure. Both TVs are capable of 1000 nits.
The TCL is brighter in SDR yes. And the same would happen if you try and shoot your Sony LED vs OLED. You can't expose both properly if there is that difference.
@@paulc5389 I agree.
What’s the best tv/tvs in general for rooms with a lot of light where tvs tend to glare?
Just so you know Established Titles is a SCAM! Please don’t

It's a good thing he married a sports lover to mask his hallmark movie guilty pleasure.
I had an LG G2 back in 2013. It was a cool android phone. Now it's a TV.
Contrast (perfect blackness) is the absolute most important thing for me..........efter that comes movement and on third place the TV's size.
I don't have that kind of money so I can't buy a 97" OLED so I would settle for a 83" OLED with other words.
Cool. Send it right over! 😂
You can immediately see the difference when you know OLEDs have that sharp contrast that LEDs cannot reproduce.
Exactly!!! I just posted exactly what you just said lol if you own OLEDS you can tell a QLed Apart like night and day OLED FTW
I have the 98 inch QLED in my living room.
You can adjust the picture even better and get more out of it, Black level 45
Local dimming high, Low local contrast
And a few other things.
There is also a game mode
@M e s s a g e Me @B_TheInstaller3115 Hire him properly, then the difference to the OLED is even smaller
How is the gaming response time with the tcl ?
The bane of LCDs is the off axis performance. Contrast, colour accuracy, all goes out the window. Obviously here the OLED is just better. The point is, is it 5x better and can you live with the “lower” image quality of the TCL
Had a question for you but for some reason my post are not saving
do u think the tcl R754 is better than the new 98” S5??? What has a better picture quality and is brighter? The S5 I got for $3000 and the R754 is $4000..
The TCL is listed for $8.5k at Amazon and Best Buy. I can't find anyone selling it for $5k. Was that a Black Friday only deal?
It was. Maybe they will do it again
I’m staying away from TCL tv’s. Had a 65” & it lasted a year and a half 😞. I have a Samsung now.
Now, we're trying to decide which new TCL to get...the 85 or the 98 and who in our family should

I think when you go that high in price, it's time to consider a projector instead.
I am waiting patiently for TCL 98" to be delivered by Best Buy which I purchased during Black Friday. Your video and review influenced my purchase decision. :)

Great video. What do you think of the LG rollover?
The hardest color to reproduce for TVs is black.
I love my LG OLED.
Nice review keep up the good work B the installer

Cheers
Good evening.
Is the TCL R754 middle class, because of its image or is it top of the range, because of its image ???
Even from a TH-cam channel, it's easy to see that the TCL can't compete with the LG. Anyone saying it's close are the ones that will also say a Soundbar is as good or close to a dedicated audio system. Hey if you want big and that's your budget, cool. But the Oled is hands down better in every area.
Love your channel. My question is, Which one would you buy, the 98 inch TCL QLED for 5K or the 83 inch LG C2 for 4k. Your thoughts are appreciated.
For sports tcl, for movies c2
Simple LG.
This video is like comparing iPhone XR vs IPhone 14 Pro not even close.
Here are the blu-ray/4k blu-ray movies that I’ve compared between the A90J and Sharp Elite, while the 2 sets were side by side:
1) Blade Runner 2049
2) Gladiator
3) Fury
4) WALL.E Criterion Edition
5) Coco

Any TV enthusiast will be able to tell the difference. A casual viewer? Probably not. But you're you're out of your mind if you think a QLED will be able to match the black levels of an OLED
I cannot believe you get the same remote for that $25,000 tv
With out a doubt QD OLED is far better, just have to wait until next year..... Worth waiting for.....
@@paulc5389 don't need any bigger than 77 inch, and the QD OLED picture quality is vastly superior.....
