- At this months Zephyrhills Area Amateur Radio Club meeting we had a special guest come in and do a presentation about a uniquie antenna. N4ECW - Dennis Barrett, J.D., Ph.D. is a retired engineering and management consultant who now resides in Land O' Lakes. He and his wife, Marilyn Mitchell Barrett, K1ECW, are the former owners of portable antenna manufacturer, TransWorld Antennas.They previously sponsored the shortwave radio programs QSO and Radio Disclosure both hosted by Ted Randall on shortwave station WTWW. They are active in the amateur radio community and local civic functions. They sponsor DXpeditions, special event stations, local hamfests, and other amateur radio activities and are the new owners of Horizon Antennas in Lutz, Florida.
N4ECW's HF station consists of an ICOM 7700 transceiver powering an ICOM IC-PW1 amplifier. His back-up transceivers are a Yaesu FT-897D and a Yaesu FT-847. His back up amplifier is an RM Italy HLA300 V Plus. N4ECW is the author of the science fiction book EQUINOX that has taken amateur and shortwave radio into the cultural mainstream in its version of a limited alien invasion story line. The book is available in eBook, and paperback on Kindle, Amazon, and Barnes & Noble. His other fiction novels include Caliente, Caliente II, Raven I, Raven II, Raven III, Raven IV, and Raven Chronicles. All N4ECW's novels are also available in audiobook on iTunes and audible.com
At our meeting he talked about a new antenna that is going to be produced and available to the public shortly. A Horizon Antennas 8006 vertical dipole prototype that covers 80 meters through 70 centimeters. You can see the antenna in some of the pictures as well as a short video.
