I love your work. I cannot stand people who think restoration is just an excuse to paint things black. I also think it's amusing you started your channel as a way to de-stress your life. I watch it for the very same reason! Well, that and Mando, of course.
Totally! Any color of paint. Some poor things get painted hot pink, neon green with brick red trim🤮, &/or some other equally obnoxious color. Many antiques, which are merely a little rough around the edges, are seen as 'too much work' to care for properly. They are seen as a 'disposable', and a cheap solution for a child's room. Chests, nightstands, even dressing tables(!) oh my... The ones to paint are the broken down, 10 years old, big box store purchases. Paint THOSE things!
I remember when every home had a little table like this for those heavy rotary phones, and with a shelf for the telephone book. I still have my grandmother's.
That was a very nice restoration Jay. I love the way that you always try to think outside of the box and do things a little differently than others would. Which brings me to the question of what the heck could you use the left side of the table for? A plant in a beautiful pot? Also, if you ever do want to use it for an umbrella stand you could put a pretty china plate or a clear bowl so you can still see the brass rods you used. Anywho, thanks and I can't wait to meet your apprentice! 👍
I think the idea of using metal bars for the umbrella part is great. You could easily put a plastic container underneath, and you could put the container in a basket to hide it.
that is going to be a perfect entry table, the drawer for keys, and a place for a beautiful plant....going to be great, and I'm writing this as you start sanding....
That piece is simply elegant. Good job on the stain - really brings out the grain. Delighted that you are getting an apprentice. I take my hat off to you for putting your physical and mental health first - what you are doing in restoration must go a long way to soothing your soul. Thanks for another interesting video. I am hooked.
USA here. I'm banking this in my brain! My grandma had one, clunky telephone receiver that wouldn't sit on your shoulder, BUT this will work for today's world by the door, keys, wallet, cell phones for sure!
Having been born in the mid-1940s I have seen a few telephone stands. That 1 is beautiful and different. I love the finished product. Your work is so special.
Lovely work, as always, Jay 🎉 Mondo has such an artistic sense in posing for you…framed in your wooden work of art or highlighting with just the right suspended wall pose against the white brick. Again, wonderful staging on the woven mat & textured surroundings. ~A delight to see your videos & work & excited to meet your apprentice. Congratulations 🎈 Angie
Such a practical little piece of design; a place for an umbrella and a pair of gloves on a rainy day And now it is completely amazing and ready for its new role. This looks like a 1930s or 40s version of the Victorian hall tree.
*Such beautiful results, Jay....but with your dedication to excellence, how could the results be anything except TRULY SPECTACULAR ⁉️ The color is lovely and it's such a functional piece of furniture that exudes beauty and grace, as well as practicality.🤎 Awesome job, Jay❣️😎 The touches of brass in the hinges, rods and tubes are just right. Scritches to Mando; looking forward to meeting your new apprentice. 🥰*
You’ve had “apprentices” for a while now! I wondered how this new one would differ. But he’s gonna be a “hairless, tailless” one! How novel! This ho-hum umbrella stand is now bespoke! I like this about your repairs! Thanks for always sharing❤️
Really like what you did with the telephone/umbrella stand. I would use it as an occasional table. The brass rods are a nice touch. You said that you were working in a hospital during COVID. So was I. I spent over a month as a patient in the hospital where I worked, with 10 days on a ventilator. COVID was brutal and only by the grace of God, I'm still alive.
Jay: having an apprentice is going to be interesting to watch and how both of you will work together. This should be fun to watch. I’m so happy your business is at that level. I bet you probably have customers waiting for pieces to be done. Most exciting. Carol from California
So beautiful! Top Notch! You really are the Bee's knees! Your kitty too, is growing so fast, each time we see him. And his coloring is so regal and gorgeous. When you first got him, my initial thoughts were; he needs a playmate, but as each video came out I realized that he has many play friends with your feline visitors. You must be very proud of how beautiful and playful he is. :)
My mom still has the umbrella stand/hall tree she bought when we lived in England when I was a child (military brat here). I have always thought they are beautiful and elegant, as is this one you restored, Jay!
I like it! I like it a lot. The black stain was a good choice to help blend in the added pieces. And although there is no drip tray there is still room to place one on top the rods. The rods gave it a whole new updated look and style. ❤
Wait! I thought Mando was your apprentice? This was a nice little project. It still had enough damage to make it a reasonable project to restore and I love the finish. It really enhances the wood. It shows that you even small pieces can be rescued and repurposed (although I think this would look pretty amazing with an old Bakelite GPO dial telephone perched on it!)
Simple and elegant. The brass rods were a perfect touch. I have been seeing Osmo used all over youtube for so many different things. I hope your apprentice loves cats.
Todos los trabajos que has hecho me gustan y lo que más me gusta es que saca a cuadro sus hijitos los gatos 😊 y que es muy limpio en su trabajo siempre veo limpio el lugar donde trabaja felicidades saludos desde morelia mexico .
What a classy restoration for that little piece! I know we're all really happy that you're taking good care of yourself, and the news about the apprentice is really exciting, though, like others, I half expected it might be an apprentice of the feline persuasion! 😉 The yard is looking absolutely splendid, and I really like the outdoor couch ... it looks just right against that wall. Excitedly awaiting all the new developments!
Well most of my comments have been taken. Gorgeous results, when it was all sanded and the beautiful wood grain revealed I was thinking you wouldn't want to go too dark. That and making all the wood work together. I was thinking plant stand as well. As far as your apprentice, very happy. Him being a friend, you have to remember to laugh when things are difficult. That really helps.
I really love this finished piece, and I think the brass rods look great. Maybe if it's not being used as an umbrella stand, you could put a piece of glass over the open area on the top to make a little more space to set things down. I hope we still see a lot of you in the videos when your apprentice joins you; I find your voice very soothing to listen to, and your videos are among my favorite places to hide out from our politics over here.
Great job my friend. You seem to have a lot of 'tricks up your sleeve' when you restore your furniture pieces. There often is an 'artistic flare' to your work which I love to see. I must say that the use of the brass rods was a brilliant touch & really set the whole piece off. It is ALWAYS VERY RELAXING watching you perform your restorations & the way you bring the cats into your videos help with this. Cheers, Don from South Australia.
I was hoping you were gonna do something with brass. I’d buy that if I saw it in a store. What a beautiful accent piece. Your garden and flowers are looking beautiful as well. Mondo sure is a sweet kitty. Have a great wknd Jay 🇺🇸❤️
I'm excited to meet your apprentice. He's going to learn from the best. You made this piece elegant. The addition of the brass tubing and hinges combined with the dying enhancing the grain made it really a step (or two) above where it started. Awesome job Jay!
Congratulations on the new apprentice, what great news! Really cute table, love what did where the old drip tray was! As usual wonderful video! Looking forward to the big desk restoration and the new apprentice of course! 😊❤
I love watching your videos. Love how you explain everything you do. The notes are funny( 2000 years later). Cats make it very fun and interesting to watch! ❤
Kind of expected the apprentice to be a cat 😂
SAME! 😂
That's what I thought!
I thought the same. I kinda hope so.
Me too!
As did I 😂

Ha ha thank you and definitely do have stress in my life 😂 just different type
I haven't watched television for twenty years. Best thing I ever did.
This has been one of my favorite restoration channels to watch. When you mentioned taking on an apprentice, it was exciting news to me.
The wood grain on that top piece is gorgeous! This whole project turned out so nice.
Thank you for doing this, there needs to be more umbrella stands in the world they are very useful and difficult to find.
I remember when every home had a little table like this for those heavy rotary phones, and with a shelf for the telephone book. I still have my grandmother's.

Thank you and you put umbrellas in those holes. There used to be a drip tray in the bottom to collect water
Very cute! Love the brass addition. Would make a cute plant stand.
Another adorable little thingy! Great job . Looking forward to seeing your apprentice.
I was so happy watching gorgeous Mondo I missed the whole renovation.
I think the idea of using metal bars for the umbrella part is great. You could easily put a plastic container underneath, and you could put the container in a basket to hide it.
Thanks ☺️
It is so cute!! That stand will live a new, long life🎉🎉🎉
that is going to be a perfect entry table, the drawer for keys, and a place for a beautiful plant....going to be great, and I'm writing this as you start sanding....
Your new idea for where a brass insert would normally go still works for that side of the piece being used for an umbrella stand. Smartly done! ❤ 😊
Another beautiful restoration Jay. I love you chose the grain and colour to match Mando❤❤🤣🤣
Thanks so much!
Another beautiful job done well!
Sanding, and more sanding 😄 2000 years later... Great piece of furniture 👍🙏😊

It reminds me of Gibbs from NCIS building a boat in his basement to release some stress.
Oh, by the way...your garden is looking GREAT!
Thanks, need to cut the grass 😅
USA here. I'm banking this in my brain! My grandma had one, clunky telephone receiver that wouldn't sit on your shoulder, BUT this will work for today's world by the door, keys, wallet, cell phones for sure!
So cute. I love the stain choice. I can totally see this as stand by an entrance.
So happy to see you include the tack cloth step!
Having been born in the mid-1940s I have seen a few telephone stands. That 1 is beautiful and different. I love the finished product. Your work is so special.
Glad you enjoyed it
Looks beautiful. I love the brass rods at the bottom, great idea.
Another winner! Natural wood and brass is my favourite combo 😊

You always find interesting, charming pieces to re-finish.
Such a practical little piece of design; a place for an umbrella and a pair of gloves on a rainy day And now it is completely amazing and ready for its new role. This looks like a 1930s or 40s version of the Victorian hall tree.
It is a piece of furniture that I would love at my doorway! It's lovely. ❤❤
Your creativity is just endless, and the brass rods are making the difference! Another nice piece restored!
The stand turned out beautiful. I really like the color you chose. The brass rods was a nice touch
A fantastic little piece. Good advice Jay. 👍🏼 Yay🎉 Mando 🐱🐈 funny, happy & curious ❤

This is such a cute piece of furniture. I liked the fact that you used the brass rods instead of a tray.Truly enjoy watching your channel.
Jay, “you make every piece NICE”. Your gardens look beautiful. And….Bob’s your uncle. 😂🇨🇦
... I almost feel bad telling him, my uncle's name isn't Bob...😂
My mom still has the umbrella stand/hall tree she bought when we lived in England when I was a child (military brat here). I have always thought they are beautiful and elegant, as is this one you restored, Jay!
I KNEW you worked out!!! LOL!
Gorgeous, as always!! Congratulations on your apprentice and continued growth!

Very nice use of the brass tubes. The color was very nice and not to dark!
You want an apprentice to do the sanding - you don't fool me!
and make the tea of course...
Wait! I thought Mando was your apprentice?

Another great job from a fantastic man and that man is Jay . Thank you for your hard work and dedication.
It is exciting that you're getting an apprentice! Beautiful work Jay. Hi mando and Hugo 🐈⬛🐆

What a nice piece for someone’s entry, just beautiful ⭐️
That turned out beautiful Jay - the grain in that top piece is gorgeous.

It’s beautiful! I loved the addition of the brass rails.

Great advice 🙂 will remember it. Thank you ☺️
At the same time totally ecstatic that you can have an apprentice. That is wonderful. Hugs
Very nice job Jay! Very practical and attractive addition to an entryway!
Wood hardener? I've never heard of such a thing. You always teach me something. You have all cool toys!
🙂
Love the old piece!! The brass is a great idea!! Thanks Jay!!

That piece has elegant proportions. Nice choices for stain, and bar treatment.

I am so glad you spoke about your apprentice being a friend.
My best wishes for your swift recovery.
Really excited about the apprentice. Anything that means more content for the viewers and help for you (besides Hugo and Mando) is a great bonus.
I like the color of the furniture piece. Thanks for another tutorial video.
I love your choice of colors as well as your obsession & ability to return the pieces to as new looking as possible!
Это прекрасно. Восхищаюсь вашими работами. 👍🏻🥰🔥🤍💙❤️
Flipping Drawers Mark 2!!! Love it. :)
Very nice. I like the rods and the color. Looking forward to your next project. 😊
Thanks!
Thank you beautiful person 💛 much appreciated
Apprentice!?! At first I thought a sibling for Mando 😂
Gorgeous work! It is a beautifully restored piece. It also looks like Mando🐱🐾❤ approved. Looking forward to seeing you teach your apprentice 🎉
I like the brass!
Nice job! Mando is georgus!
Very nice workmanship. 😊
Very beautiful!!!👋👋👋
Love the Mando moments 😺
That was a nice little project. Adding castors would have turned it into a bar cart.
It was a lovely restoration, Jay. I hope that your apprentice will be as kind to your tools as are you.
Thanks ☺️
GORGEOUS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! looking forward to the apprentice and desk!!!!!
Thank you 🤩
Another gorgeous piece. Well done.
Świetna robota👏 i bardzo ciekawy pomysł. Chyba zrobię coś takiego u siebie w domu.
