If they used the original voiceovers, they could be sued by Guy Siner and/or the other voice actors who did the original VO for TIE Fighter. (SAG-AFTRA guild rules. If they wanted to use the original voices, even if they didn't record new dialogue, they still would have had to find Guy Siner and the other voice actors and get them to sign a new contract.)
This is the Reimagined campaign which has new voiceovers because the missions are different. The old voiceovers are still there in the Classic campaign.
When you install the mod, you can choose to keep the old dialogues and old missions, OR instead get the new "reimagined" missions which follow the same plot and objectives but the missions have been updated to be better suited to today's computers allowing bigger battles, etc. and therefore required new voice.
I'm so happy this came out good. While I'm not a huge Star Wars fan but it has had its own share of incredible games and tie fighter is absolutely one of them. RIP Lucas Arts.
Agree with everything except the last point. Frostbite looks pretty, but it runs pretty bad, and is notoriously difficult to develop for. It’s not meant to support fantasy or sci-fi settings, only the ultra realistic settings of Battlefield. I’d prefer them use a different, smoother running engine.

@@grooms93 it does not make sense that a graphics engine supports only "realistic" settings but not "sci-fi". The engine does not know that and the actual graphics are up to artists.

And the best part of this game is there's no little kids swearing at you in the background or having a temper tension because you didn't do what they said or they got hit and lost
After about two weeks on the flight sim, I just did this mission and... who'd knew that the hardest part would be to locate and orient myself in that vast space, using my CMD to the best of it capabilities? Oh, and the conversion is fantastic. Fantastic.
I just found this and OMG 😳.. speechless! I'd pay more than full price for this. Finally the lasers fire fast, like they should. The explosions are great! Please update this whole game, and X-wing.. I'd be all over this!!
My only criticism would be some of the voice acting...I just can't imagine Imperial pilots saying "woo hoo!" Replacing "woo hoo" with something like "excellent" or "nice hunting" in a cold tone would fit Imperials a little better.

I am freaking out. I played all of these games and add ons till the CD was paper thin. Remasters of so many games these days is bringing me back memories, this looks amazing. I bet I'll remember how to beat every mission in two tries. Thanks for sharing this!!!!🤘😎
Man, I played the original to death back in 1994/95. Then I dabbled a bit in the Special Edition when it came out in 1998. But this is just epic! I’m sold! Getting it now!
It's a good joystick for it's price. I don't play a lot of sims, just a bit of Flight Simulator and space combat light sims like TIE or Wing Commander. Works fine with those!

This was my first PC game that wasn't something I had to type out a Run command for, and man, do I have some serious nostalgia for it. O hadn't picked it up on Steam yet because of some of the issues I saw in the reviews, but the next time I get paid I'm definitely getting this.
The only thing I might change is have an Arquitens-class near the station or hyperspace in once combat begins. Or the exact opposite, have the Arquitens-class be called away before the Rebels arrive.
Squadrons is great, as well. And looks a bit nicer still, especially in VR. But since this is the game that started it all for me, I'm very happy about this.
I have a iMac will I be able to run this out of bootcamp? I have the original games from 96/97 for the PC and they were OS compatible then. I am hoping they still work. I love this game.
Too bad you can't recreate imuse (a system used by most versions of tie fighter that made music interactive and seemlessly change based on things going on in the mission; individual music tracks are unable to do that).

Is there still this shadowy guy who works for the emperor? In the Mission screen? you did get some kind of tattoo upgrade on the arm with an empire logo
Unfortunately, the X-Wing Alliance game engine does not allow conversation menus like in TIE Fighter. The Secret Order briefings are included in the full briefing text. You still get the tattoos after missions!
Assuming based on this running on top of XWAU, you should be able to tweak the amount of bloom from none to full blast, with several levels in between.

Did you have X-Wing also on those 3.5s? I had that game for years before I actually could feasibly play it when I was working and purchased my own computer. The computer I grew up on was an old 386SX16 with 1meg of memory and 40meg HDD. (I upgraded it to 3 and it could only barely run the game with severe gliching).
@@francischambless5919 No. I remember the 'outcry' because TIE Fighter had Gourad(?) Shading technology. They did re-release X-Wing GOLD shortly after though with the new shading on CD's - which I did get.

XWing CD.... XWing and Tie Fighter CD.... I got the Xwing vs Tie but honestly I didnt' like it, especially the multiplayer. My experience was you jump in, launch all missiles. Other guy dies. They leap in, launch all missiles... you die. You jump in.... so on and so on. If you didn't do this you were just annihilated. I do remember being more upset myself that the re-releases after Xwing on the 3.5s cut out the landing videos I loved watching and the post landing where you saw battle damage on your fighter. Those never came back.

@abaezarojano Ah, yeah, I tried not to go too hard on the VA (though I failed ofc) as the effort put in is obviously humongous. It´s just the nostalgia is too strong in me, I appreciate the efforts (and the mod as a whole is fantastic) but the OG VA is just soo good.
Light flare? Think about. Do you have eyes made of camera lenses? Does independent project needs to fallow the industry and have that immersion breaking crap?
Tie Fighter is an all time great. Too bad Lucasarts and their successors went soft and almost every SW game since has the character having a change of heart then going with the Rebellion or good guys. That's frankly rubbish, remember in Tie Fighter you go to be Darth Vader's wingman, go on and try and name a gaming moment as epic as that!

This reminds me of the older Ace Combat games. I'd give anything to play a Star Wars fighter game that plays EXACTLY like Ace Combat 5.

XWA does have imuse and the music does change dynamically, though not quite as dynamically as TIE Fighter itself did.

I believe by default its (numpad /) and (numpad *) numpad 0 might also reset to cockpit view.

Yes, up to Battle 8 on Reimagined. The classic missions are all there.

D-key removes the HUD and . (dot) removes the cockpit. You can customize HUD colour in the options (ESC).
Looks great but the commander doesn't sound right.
It's a different voice actor. The modders have redone all of the voices. The missions are a bit different so they could not use the original voices.

There are respawns only in the tutorial missions. After that, no respawns, just like in the original.

The lens flare effect is in the original 1999 engine.
