- Come October, the Congress-ruled Karnataka govt will host a conclave to form an “economic alliance” with “growth-oriented” States. This includes Tamil Nadu, Kerala, Telangana, Andhra Pradesh, Maharashtra, Gujarat, West Bengal, Delhi, and Punjab.
Among the issues to be discussed will be the unfair devolution of taxes to States by the Centre. Under the 15th Finance Commission Karnataka’s share in horizontal devolution slumped to 3.64% from 4.71% in the 14th FC, leaving the State feeling marginalised.
Since the Congress assumed power, it has repeatedly raised the issue under ‘Our Tax, Our Right’ campaign, and even staged a protest in New Delhi in February.
Similarly, from the naming of new laws to the national education policy, Karnataka has expressed strong reservations about the various ways in which federal harmony is being disrupted.
To add fuel to the fire, the celebration of Hindi Diwas in Union Government-owned banks, departments and companies has reignited the debate around Hindi imposition, which goes against the federal structure of the Constitution.
While Kannada organisations and activists have often been accused of countering this with an aggressive assertion of regional pride, faultlines have also deepened in the IT city which has been witnessing occasional Kannada vs Hindi language wars. Social media also seems to be doing its part to make the former feel undermined and the latter feel unwelcome.
Joining us for the conversation around this, is A Narayana, Professor of public policy and governance at Azim Premji University, Bengaluru.

Good program on saving India’s federalism.
The main problem for India’s federalism is due to Hindi politics and Hindi politics. They are not respecting other languages and taken South Indian languages for granted that will lead to states to ask India federal government to consider each state as separate country.
When India becomes islamic state, Urdu will be enforced, kannada will go in the drain. Larger questions should be, should Hindus remain divided and separated due to language barriers?
We can see, English, Kanada and Urdu sign boards everywhere across Bangalore.
To me it appears, kannadiga Hindus by adopting Hindi hate policy has laid the foundation of breaking India forces.
At the government level, all Indian languages are 2nd class citizens of India because English still remains the ruling, education and corporate class language. And english is taught and accepted by every state of India without a challenge that has caused severe cultural damage already. This is also going to strengthen breakup India forces. If no one wants to be united and work towards unity, why pretend to be united. We should go and break India.
Apparently kannadiga don't feel Urdu and English are being imposed or their culture being damaged. So apparently game is something else.
@skagraw2 .urdu sign boards every where in karnataka. Joker northie.karnataka muslim population is single digit.
English is self recognized as a supplementary official language.
All karnataka Muslims can read write speak kannada.
Why northies don't learn kannada 😂😂😂😂😂
There should be some punishment for BIMARU states for not improving socio-economic indicators.

Kannada should be made as official union language.
Yes, also Bengali. All languages stated in the 8th Schedule should be made the official language of India. Article 343 should be scrapped. #JoyBangla.
If the ruler is not just then the state govt should take this call. Undue advantages to states which are not developing but ruining the country name should not be promoted
The main challenge of federalism is what if the state level political party adopts failed policy or unleashes lawlessness? Should the center intervene or let the states fail?
If states fail, people will be forced to migrate. should we allow people migrations across states and who should decide this...
European Union parliament comprises of different countries and different languages. There, Though you can speak in any European Language, the main language used is English, which is not a European language !! Similar thing could be applicable for Bharat also.
We fully support CM Shri Siddharamiah and Karnataka people. We the tamils repeatedly saying that "if there is one language, it will result in may countries in india. If there is many languages in india, there will be one country." We are against brahminism / RSS which are behind such one language, one election, one tax, one party, one man rule etc.,
No more looting of south india
Our state kerala is a victim of this anti federalism politics by modi and bjp
After accepting Hindi through out the country, some people could not guess what the danger would be. Later is it possible for non hindi speaking people to compete in all aspects specifically in competitive exams with people whose mother tongue is HINDI.
For hindi speaking people , it is mother tongue and for us it is foreign language. In any competition there should be level playing field for justice / unbiased competition. More importantly non hindi speaking people will become second class citizens .
Bjp often gets exposed by thier immatured, irrelevent , silly talks.
Jawahar Navodaya vidyalayas make it compulsory for South Indian languages to be taught in North India from 6-9th std
These schools don't exist in TN
No jnvs in tamilnadu.
Karnataka jnvs teach hindi as a language for high school also state run govt schools.but it's just for fun not out of compulsion
Hindi is a foreign language from persia. And English came to Karnataka before Hindi.
are you of sound mind?
@@LetsbeHonest97Yes he is
It was Urdu which came from Persia clear hindi origins cannot be said coz it differs state to state it's a mixture of sanskrit farsi and some elements of local hindi dialects of central india
I'm a south indian myself stop this stupidity
Hindi and english both are foreigners language. English is use and throw language. Hindi is not even fit to use
Nicely explained.
The present devolution of tax formula is biased and discriminatory to Karnataka. It should be set right and failing which there is a danger for federalism.
What about Congress communists leaving in Karnataka from the places of Mysore, Belgaum and Gulbarga
Hindi is foreigners language to karnataka 😂
World oldest language is tamil. Make tamil as national language.

It's just an opinion. And there is nothing wrong told here.
You read times of india
excessive federalism leads to divisions
That's good too. Smaller countries are better. South East Asian countries, EU nations, African, all benefitted.
Hindi Imposition will divide even more😂. All 22 schedule languages must be made as official union language to stop Hindi Imposition.
No. Special preference for north indian states will create division
Federalism is good for coutry. Federalism means treat every state equally.
@@coconutpunch123 in real world, there is no equality. All of the finger are not same. IF not controlled. States, culture, language deviates. So someone should hold them tight.
