    If a child learns Tamil, English, and Malayalam as three languages in Tamil Nadu, will that satisfy the three language formula? For most rural Tamils, that kind of learning a neighbouring state language would be practically more meaningful. I would think learning the language of the state adjoining a place is more likely to be beneficial. Only those who wish to migrate to North would prefer Hindi. Others will even not like to be burdened with a third language until it is time. My suggestion would be mother tongue starting in class 1. English starting from class 6. Any third optional language from class 10.
    I have lived and worked in 6 states of India and learnt every one of their languages. But the choice should be based on necessity and left to the choice of the individual. making it compulsory to young school children who may have no idea as to which third language they may need is a waste.
    Soon we will have mobile phones with apps that may do the translation. So government may fund such research instead of trying to appease any votebanks.

      The polish learn French, the Russians learn German. That has to do with economic and cultural impact of a region. North Indians got the lead in pop culture of this country and got a head start in leaving their footprint. But today a lot of North Indians work in Bangalore, Chennai and Hyderabad and are at least able to watch Telugu and Tamil content with open heart and even able to speak a few words. I think just like South Indians in Delhi and Kolkata speak Hindi because their work brought them to this place, and made them learn Hindi, companies in south should offer language courses for free for the north Indians to learn Kannada, tamil and Telugu. People in Tamilnadu depend on Dhakshin Bharat Hindi Prachar Sabha for leaning Hindi. This organisation is fairly successful in southern states since early 1900s. Hindi is learnt as a extracurricular activity in Tamilnadu. Some persevere and complete all the 8 levels but majority would have done upto 4 level i.e.parichaya to rashtrabasha. Speaking hindi may be a challenge, but they are quite good in writing and usage of shuddh Hindi. It would be better if a similar organisation say - Bharatheeya Basha Prachar Samiti is formed. Each state can take responsibility to train other state language teachers as pracharak of their language. This informal learning methodology will succeed.

    What the "Hindi Speaker" Yogendra Yadav is trying to side-step is this important issue.
    A student from the Hindi belt is allowed to choose the third language.
    A student from the South is given no such choice. He/she is FORCED to learn Hindi as per the three language policy. Had the policy been English + 2 languages OR English + Local + 1 language, WITHOUT forcing Hindi to be one of the compulsory languages, then and only then would it be a fair policy.

    • @madcapprof
      @madcapprof 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      @Ganesh S He is saying that Hindi belt made a mockery by taking Sanskrit as the third language. Argues that there wouldn't have been anti-Hindi protests had the North opted for South Indian languages instead.
      However, he still opines that the 3 language policy with English+Hindi+Third is good. He never says Hindi need not be one of the three languages.
      A student in Tamil Nadu would be concerned whether he has choice in studying languages. He won't be too concerned whether ppl in Haryana are learning Tamil, as long as he has a choice in his curriculum.

      Regardless of the above point, in case of Telangana, the students had a choice of choosing two of the three languages Telugu, Urdu and Hindi , along with English (compulsory). So, if one wishes not to take Hindi, they could do it according to the state board rules.

    The four main south Indian languages are very similar in sentence structure and words are also very similar. It is like similarity between Hindi and Punjabi OR Hindi and Marathi. The script is practically same between Telugu and Kannada. Other than languages of these 4 southern states, the language spoken in other parts of India, the sentence structure and spoken language are close to each other. Even the script is more or less similar. So broadly speaking there are 2 groups of languages in India. To ensure a equal treatment to all citizens, and considering promotion of unity of the country, all North Indians should necessarily learn one South Indian language and all South Indians should compulsorily learn any one of the North Indian language of his or her choice. Other than this there should be no compulsion to learn any one specific language. All citizens need to be treated equal; this will be the basic respect expected by all.

Hindi did not bring anything to this country. The three language policy is to discourage poor students from attending schools. I am surprised Yadav is so innocent, that he couldn't understand how Hindi is imposed on the students thru the back door. 3:56 That's hindi imposition. Basically non hindi States don't get to chose any of the 3 languages. 1st language being State's language is obviously even for hindi states, 2nd language being English for es everyone is also obviously but hindi is the mandatory 3rd language for non hindi states whereas hindi states get to choose which language they want to be their 3rd language.
    7:41 Because no non hindi Indian wants to fall behind in learning a language that even hindi Indians want their kids to learn for global success. Otherwise only hindi remains as the sole compulsory language & hindi being Indian can easily displace other Indian languages since they all have less political power than hindi.
    8:14 English isn't the solution but those opposing English only see hindi as the solution & that's the problem. English is just a place holder, we'll need it as long as hindi is the only Indian language that's the official language of the Union.
    9:06 If hindi is pre selected to be in the 3 language formula against the wishes of the states then it is making hindi mandatory across India & that's imposition. If hindi can also be an optional language in 3 language formula then it's obviously not a problem. Other than the State's own language the will be free to choose any of the 2 extra languages to be in their 3 language policy. Even English should be optional so no state can claim English is being imposed on them, they should be able to choose a different language if they want to.

      Actually more language u learn more intelligent u become. In my state West Bengal once communist party removed English from syllabus, now most of the Bengalis who passed from Bengali medium have a problem in understanding or speaking in English. Though hindi isn't present in the syllabus but since it has influence of neighborhoring state like Bihar and has sizeable Urdu or hindi speaking population they atleast understand hindi. The problem of this removal of English is so massive that now an extreme low income people also aspire to admit his children in a private English medium school rather than a good government school.
      The Tamils who remain in the state or atleast roam in southern states won't face any problem rather those Tamils who go out to of South India will face problem because local people here knows their own language or could understand hindi. Most of low educated people doesn't know English. But on the contrary those north indian who probably done engineering and goes to Chennai or Bangalore doesn't face such problem because they already can speak English.
      For me the draft is much required because such a linguistically diverse country like us, people needs to understand atleast 3 languages and u could rather not choose hindi and could choose Telegu as 3rd language being a Tamil. Those of ur south indian politician who says learning or just understanding hindi means it will take the place of ur own language r actually talking shit because there r somany languages in rest of India, no one is replacing their own mother language with hindi

    The four main south Indian languages are very similar in sentence structure and words are also very similar. It is like similarity between Hindi and Punjabi OR Hindi and Marathi. The script is practically same between Telugu and Kannada. Other than languages of these 4 southern states, the language spoken in other parts of India (broadly North India) the sentence structure and spoken language are close to each other.

    • @chan625
      @chan625 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Actually, broadly speaking there are 3 groups. North east gets forgotten as always. In NE there are many languages which are more Chinese / east Asian than Indian with much less to do with Sanskrit / Tamil etc. (Assamese an exception) and within themselves have a lot of diversity. In fact if you include dialects, NE has as much diversity as rest of the India combined.
