If course it makes a difference. Even if he didn't actually master it (or sounds mediocre in your opinion), there's an intimacy that one develops w/ activities that are congruent w/ age, meaning the earlier the connection, the more ingrained the bond, and that is irrespective of 'technique, chops, etc meaning he might not be Glen Gould or Keith Jarrett but he sure knows who to make music out of it... You never head a drummer stretch the skins? Go liten to Buddy Rich sometime. All this guy does is stretch the skins. .He has no dynamics and plays a solo through the whole song, .He's got a lot to learn
