Dashrajna War of the Rigveda - The First Epochal War of India

  • We often wonder about the origins of the word Bharat (भारत).
    The earliest traceable origin of the word goes back to Rigveda, to be more precise, to the epochal Dāśarājña war? In the war, a king named Sudās from the Bharata (भरत) clan emerged victorious.
    Dāśarājña war is the earliest recorded war in Indian history, and its memories are found in various mandalas of Rigveda.
    On the occasion of the 75th Independence day of India, we bring you one of the very first public talks on the Dāśarājña war, which is delivered by Dr. Mugdha Gadgil

    Dear ma, I'm from Malaysia and have just found your channel. I am proud that you are also one of the many Hindus who are involved in enlightening Hindus like me about Bharat and its history. I wish you many success and hope there will be more enlightened souls like me in Bharat as well as throughout the world. We need to re-write Bharat's history books so that children from a young age will know how great a civilization Bharat was. Thank you and god bless all who have contributed towards this video.

      Why are you in Malaysia. You should come back to India. Tis is typical NRI fraud. They stay where the money is. Incidentally why should we re write ? Good historians have been working on this project. Who have you read. Please dont try to turn India into a Malaysia where religion rules. India is a secular democracy. Be a Hindu in your temple and try and get rid of the caste system. Dont bring fake pride into this. What this short presentation tells us was that there were lots of wars, killing and full of violence by local chieftains as they tried to control an collect taxes. How is that a great civilization ? Get a real life.

      @@avkash5142 thanks for revealing your stupidity without any attempt at a filter. Do you know the difference between 'yagna' and 'puja' . The first temples in India are in the 3rd and 4th century AD. The rig vedic period was all about Yagna. Please do deep reading if you want to be proud of a very rich and complex tradition. If you want to be serious then learn about your roots as an intellectual not as a fanatic. If you dont want to be a Hindu Taliban then take the time and make the effort to read good histories. My humble advice, there is a lot to feel proud and connected to about India but the true India is available to the scholar and the student not to a fanatic and someone who has no intention to learn. Our concept of nation is Raastra, a civilisation, where there are different people who speak different languages but are binded by civilisational values like cyclical birth moral code of dharma etc, so even though there were different kings ruling small Rajyas but the rastra was one and still is one but the Western concept of the nation-state, which all modern nations follow is based on the revisionist idea of one ethnicity, one language one state idea. Dr. Mugdha Gadgil mam, very interesting and informative talk on Dashragna war. Dashragna war is a historical event recorded in Rigved. Hitherto, Rigved was considered as religious text of Indians. But Dashragna war proves antiquity and historicity of Rigved and other vedic texts. My take on Dashragna war is -
    1. When vedas were compiled by maharshi Vyas, he could get only few ritchas and references, it proves that war had taken place in antiquity that it had faded from public memory (from shruti, smruti, puran and etitas इतिहास).
    2. From the names of ancient tribes and clans it can be said that war had taken place in pre vedic era. And it proves that Indra and Varuna are not vedic gods, but they existed in pre Vedic era, too. (Prevedic gods are Mitr, Pushan, Bhag and Varun. Indra was getting promience in that era as a god of war).
    3. If you see story of king Yayati in puranas, it said he had five sons, Puru, Yadu, Druhu, Turvasu and Anu. King Yayati gave his kingdom to Puru. These are nothing but five ancient clans existed in pre vedic era.
    4. Though king Sudas is from Bharat clan, king Bharat himself is from Puru clan/tribe. So king Sudas is a Puru-Bharat king.
    5. Dashragna war took place in two stages on bank of Parushni and on banks of Yamuna.
    6. There is no evidence to consider that it was war of priests. Before Vishwamitr, Bharadwaj was guru of king Sudas. When Vishwamitr was removed and Vasisth became guru of Sudas, Vishwamitr accepted it (his sacking) and did nothing against bharat king, Sudas.
    6. Gurus were advisors to king in all affairs including war. There is a mention of flood in Parushni and drowning of enemy (albeit by prayers to Indra). Here it is interesting to note that Purashni, Shatadru and all rivers in Punjab are high flowing rivere. And to divert their waters for irrigation stone bunds or check dams are created on river bank to obstruct flowing water. This obstructed water is taken through canals, these bunds are called as Pur( and Indra is Purandar). Under Vasistha's guidance these check dams were broken by Sudas, creating artificial flood and drowning of enemy.
    7. Vedic India spread from present Hariyana to Afghanistan, Persia, Parthia, present Uzbekistan, Turkmenistan, Caspian sea to Anatolia (* research by Shrikant Talger on linguistics of Rigved and Avesta).
    These were just few points.
    Thank you very much for your lecture on Dashragna war. 🙏🙏

    10 main tribes with Viswamitra, against Vashishtha and King Sudas. It’s a battle between Vashistha and Vishwamitra.
    They say Vashistha defeated Viswamitra’s army by destroying a dam on Ravi river which causes flood and considerable damage to his army. They say Vashistha invoked Indra and Indra might have caused the thunder and the lightning which eventually destroyed the dam on Ravi river and caused flood.

    Indra had given a boon that only Vasishtas can invoke him, even today it is important for any priest from Vasishta gotra to be present while doing any yajna for Indra. So when Vasishta himself is invoking Indra for Sudas, the other side had no chance of winning the war.

      According to Manu Smruthi Chapter III:197,198; Vasishtta is the Father of All Sudhras;
      and also according to the verse असुर्यः शूद्र: of Thaithiya Brahmana all His children are Asuras.
      And they born out of Asura Vivaha of Manu III:3;
      And they are all not Eligible to do or participate in Yagjyas.
      According to Yoni Thanthra V:16,17;
      If they do Homas against the Codes of Manu they Became Chandalas themselves.
      And also according to the following Scripture verse of Thaithiriy Samhitha
      II:3:7.1- देवासुरा संयत्ता आसन् । देवान् असुरा अजयन् । ते देवाः पराजिग्याना असुराणां वैश्यं उपाऽऽयन् । तेभ्य इन्द्रियं वीर्यं अपाक्रामत् । तदिन्द्रः अचायत् । तदन्वपाक्रामत् । तदवरुधं नाशक्नोत् । तदस्मात् अभ्यर्धः अचरत् । स प्रजापतिं उपाधावत् । तमेतया *"सर्वपृष्टया"* अयाजयत् । तयैव अस्मिन् इन्द्रियं वीर्यं अदधात् ।।
      - we came to understand that the Asuras of Su - Dhasa King Conquered the Army of Dhevas (The Angels) of Indhra with the Help of Vasishta the Father of Sudhra Race.
      And by the Help of Prajapathi (of Bhrugu Race) Lord Indhra performed *"Sarvaprushtakhya Yishti"* and regained their Indhriyas and Veerya also to fight against the Asuras of Su-Dhasa and Vasishtta and their Armies.
      Thus even today if any Hindu Kshathriya Brahmins of Kaasyapa, Aathreya, Vaiswamithra and Aangeerasa Race perform the same *"Sarvaprushtakhya Yishti"*, with the help of Bhrugu Vamsa Vipras of Bhargava Pravara Races;
      They can regain their own Indhriyas and Veeryas to Conquer all the Asuras and Mleachas of the Whole World easily.

      @@sanjayprasad2739 I am sorry, I dont recall the exact source. The story is mentioned in the episode about Trishanku, Trishanku first goes to his Kula Guru Vasishta to get him to ascend to heaven in his earthly body, Vasishta outright dismisses him, so, disappointed he seeks Vishamitra's help knowing he's at that point opposed to Vasishta. Vishwamitra plans a big yagya to send forth Trishanku to heaven in his earthly body, but knowing his intention, Indra does not attend the yagya even though he's invoked and offered havis. The ashwini brothers tell Vishwamitra that Indra has given a boon that he will only appear to receive his havis if Vasishta invokes him, So Jamadagni and Vishwamitra decide to bring in Shakti, son of Vasishta to the yagya, as technically he's also a Vashista. In the process SHakti dies and fearing that his yagya will be incomplete, Vishwamitra decides to send forth Trishanku to heaven without Indra's permission, but as we all know he's pushed down from the heavens and Vishwamitra enraged, proclaims 'anya Indra Karishyami', 'I will create another Indra', in this mayhem, out of fear of consequences it is said that Indra appeared and it was decided that Trishanku will live in his own loka ruling it, just like Indra.

      Dhasa is the End Title for Sudhra varna names according to Manu Smruthi Bhashya of Chapter 2:32;
      Yama:
      शर्म देवस्य विप्रस्य (सु-शर्म, सु-देवः)
      वर्म त्राता च भूभुजः । (सु-वर्म, सु-त्राता)

      Also according to Vishnu Puranam
      शर्मवत् ब्राह्मणस्योक्तं (सु-शर्म)
      वर्मेति क्षत्रसंयुतम् । (सु-वर्म)
      गुप्त - दासात्मकं नाम
      प्रशस्तं वैश्य (सु-गुप्त) शूद्रयोः (सु-दासः) ।।
      also.
      Vasishtta was the Progenitor for All Sudhras according to Manu Smruthi 3:197,198;
      And, Asmaka Son of Sau-Dhasas and Grand Son of Su-Dhasa got birth by Vasishtta Himself even according to Vishnu Puranam, Bhagavatha Puranam, and even Valmiki Ramsyana Also.
      Vyasa The Great Grand Son of Vasishtta also gave Birth to Pandu and Dhrutharashtra of Lunar Dynasty according to Maha Bharatham, Vishnu Puranam, Bhagavatha Puranam,... etc.
      There was a murder case against Vasishtta in the Royal Court of Sudhama Son of Pijaavana Filed by Viswamithra according to Manu Smruthi 8:110.
      By such all the above mentioned references, and lot of other Scripture verses,
      The Wise can conclude easily the Sudhras of Vasishtha Race Became Brahmins and Kshathriyas themselves by producing Chandala and Kshath Jathi Prathiloma by Royal Queens and all other Brahmin women and Destroyed the Purity of Varna Asrama Dharma and Developed the Adharmik Kaliyuga of Sudhras.
      This was the Fact.
      But all the 18 Puranas, Maha Bharatham and Modern Vedhas of Dhwapara Yuga end time, was Compiled by Vedha Vyasa of The Vasishtta Vamsa itself.
      Thus no one can trace out the Evil Unrighteous Adharmic Works of that Sudhra Varna without the Help of Manu Smruthi 3:197,198.
      Lord God Almighty knows everything about these Truth facts and He Finally going to Punish Each and every one of those Culprits at the Final Battle Field of Kalki Deva of Kasyapa Pravara according to Bhavishya Puranam verses.
      So let us try to keep Quite and Eagerly Await for that Final Battle hereafter with Righteous Wise Prayers.

There is student teacher relationship, metaphysics, philosophy of life, inner discovery of oneself, that we should be grateful to nature for giving us everything, universal well being even to those who are not known and another faith unlike two major Abrahamic religions that say non believers will burn in hell.
      Maybe you are confused with Puranas that have more stories of war, etc.
