Thanks for the great video Patrick. Just getting to grips with Power BI reporting but at work we host our reports in Power BI Report Server as we currently run on-prem. Are these embed codes a feature of the cloud service only or are they available in Report Server also? The only way we can find to run reports from an is by taking the report URL from the Report Server web portal and add '?rs:embed=true' to the end. However, the embed code you show appears to use an ID instead of a report name.
Q: does Secure Embed require specific capacity/SKU? Q2: it sounds like secure embed is specifically for internal use? Q3: how is secure embed different to 'Embed for your Organisation' (user-owns-data)?

I have a use-case whereby we want to make a Power BI report visible on our client facing portal - but each client needs to see only their information - so the report should be pre-filtered to their account ID. The that was pasted into your internal portal did not prompt for credentials. Is this because the internal portal uses windows auth and passed the credentials to the report?

Yoooo! Love it! Secure embed doesn't provide for anonymous access. The user needs to log in and would need to be licensed accordingly. If you want anonymous access, you would need to look at the Publish to Web feature. Ultimately, there is a way to determine them if they are smart enough. You could have a page that includes the IFrame and controls the URL params under the hoods, but the would need them to pass them through. Anything more advanced than that and you'd have to go the true Embedded approach.

The secure embed doesn't allow for fullscreen like publish to web, even though it passes through a parameter to allow fullscreen. Is this a bug, or is there something I'm missing? Fullscreen mode is great for embedding since it handles different resolutions very easily.

There is not. They would have the ability to do that from their "My Workspace" perspective. You can control who can publish content to an App Workspace.

Very nice !! I am currently working with power bi report embedding in my portal. I was trying to do report embedding with .net code by getting access token. For that, I need to pass username and password while acquiring token. Here i can do without any code. But, i have one question here. When i am putting the code to my desired page, it is asking me to sign in into Power BI. I clicked on that and i am getting the report perfectly. Could you please let me know why this is not the case with you ?
I believed this happened because he already clicked sign-in once for his browser session. What I am wondering is if it's possible to never be prompted to click sign-in and have powerBI sign-in automatically when the link is clicked on (even with a brand new browser session).
@@anthonyyle I tried this.User sign in is required in this approach (First time only). This is a better approach as you can handle report level access easily. Otherwise you need to follow the other approach which i mentioned in my comment.

There's a few embedding options. There's the simple embed options that give you an to stick in a webpage, but that secure embed is pretty limited and requires people to have Power BI, be signed in and have access to the report. There's a public embed - publish to web, but it's severely rate limited. For sharing with external folks however, there's a more complex, but more functional method where you use Azure to allocate dedicated capacity to Power BI. This involves coding a bit and requires Microsoft Azure. Your web server has to go out, request an embed token. They refer to this as "App owns data". docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/developer/embed-sample-for-customers But none of this is something you do on the desktop version - you have to go to the web version of Power BI.

i have a mini crisis - the direct connector for Azure SQL Database in the Power BI service is just got deprecated. I have an embedded power BI solution that heavily relies on this feature to interact and even manipulate our charts by providing some values using a feature built on C# using direct query. I wouldn't think existing reports are affected. It would just be that you won't have that option to create new reports. You would need to use Power BI Desktop in that case.
Thanks for a great video!, wanted to know if anybody has encountered the issue i'm having with i-frame embedding of secure power bi: In our web page, after the power bi report i-frame window is open for about 45 min its login off showing the "sign in" button. When a user try to click sign in the i-framewindow is not responding unless we refresh the i-frameurl on our page to make it reload on our page , only then user can sign in again. Anybody knows how to deal with this issue?i didn't find anything in the power bi community center.... thanks!! :)

You are correct. If I would have open an incognito browser you would have seen the prompt.

There is not. They would have the ability to do that from their "My Workspace" perspective. You can control who can publish content to an App Workspace.

Hi Patrick and Adam, In my organization, we have 5 members. All 5 members have Power BI Pro licenses. If we embed the report in our organisation(user own data) then confirm I need embedded capacity or not? Is there any specific capacity required except the 5 Power BI pro license?

Hi Patrick, when you used the in your app, the report did not ask you to sign-in because you were already logged in powerbi.com? is there any way to achieve SSO using this Secure Embeded method with low-code, for example if your application also uses Office 365 to login?

Very nice !! I am currently working with power bi report embedding in my portal. I was trying to do report embedding with .net code by getting access token. For that, I need to pass username and password while acquiring token. Here i can do without any code. But, i have one question here. When i am putting the code to my desired page, it is asking me to sign in into Power BI. I clicked on that and i am getting the report perfectly. Could you please let me know why this is not the case with you ?
I believed this happened because he already clicked sign-in once for his browser session. What I am wondering is if it's possible to never be prompted to click sign-in and have powerBI sign-in automatically when the link is clicked on (even with a brand new browser session).
@@anthonyyle I tried this.User sign in is required in this approach (First time only). This is a better approach as you can handle report level access easily. Otherwise you need to follow the other approach which i mentioned in my comment.

There's a few embedding options. There's the simple embed options that give you an to stick in a webpage, but that secure embed is pretty limited and requires people to have Power BI, be signed in and have access to the report. There's a public embed - publish to web, but it's severely rate limited. For sharing with external folks however, there's a more complex, but more functional method where you use Azure to allocate dedicated capacity to Power BI. This involves coding a bit and requires Microsoft Azure. Your web server has to go out, request an embed token. They refer to this as "App owns data". docs.microsoft.com/en-us/power-bi/developer/embed-sample-for-customers
But none of this is something you do on the desktop version - you have to go to the web version of Power BI.

If we the shared url contaisn autoAuth=true then it is asking for power bi login, which will not be there at all our customers.

i have a mini crisis - the direct connector for Azure SQL Database in the Power BI service is just got deprecated. I have an embedded power BI solution that heavily relies on this feature to interact and even manipulate our charts by providing some values using a feature built on C# using direct query. Any thoughts of how we can overcome this?

I wouldn't think existing reports are affected. It would just be that you won't have that option to create new reports. You would need to use Power BI Desktop in that case.
Thanks for a great video!, wanted to know if anybody has encountered the issue i'm having with i-frame embedding of secure power bi:
In our web page, after the power bi report i-frame window is open for about 45 min its login off showing the "sign in" button.
When a user try to click sign in the i-framewindow is not responding unless we refresh the i-frameurl on our page to make it reload on our page , only then user can sign in again.
Anybody knows how to deal with this issue?i didn't find anything in the power bi community center....
