I had one of the original dumpster diver’s back 11- 12 years ago. Very easy board to connect with. Stoked they’ve been reissued, would be interesting to get on one again
Great question! In my opinion, yes, especially if the waves are weak and mushy. The spinetek sits out of the water a bit more to help in those types of conditions.
Thanks mate, good review. I've been surfing mine now for a few months and like it more than the Sampler as it is more manouverable. Prefer using pivot fins with it. It's my favourite CI board ever and would definitely recommend it. Probably a 2 or 3 surf adjustment factor.
Hey James. Great review. How does it compare to a CI Sampler? That's my all time favourite small wave board. Trying to decide between a DD2 or another Sampler.
@@Henry46444 I would say it is similar to a sampler but much more improved. I had a sampler back in the day and remember catching the front edge more than a few times with the staged curves. I would recommend the DD2 over another sampler!
@@SurfTechChannel Thanks for getting back to me. Do you find it's loose enough in small waves with the single concave? I've only really ridden single to double concave in my small wave boards and not sure how a board with a single concave will go in smaller waves.
@@Henry46444 definitely! This is a great small wave board. I used it a lot in small waves as this part of the Atlantic got pretty small late spring to now and loved every session. I would put this in the quiver as a groveler! It was loose all around, held on rail when needed, but was early to break free
Yo, brother, how would you stack it up against the Pyzel Gremlin? I’m looking for a new surfboard with a bit more rocker so I can start throwing down some proper maneuvers. I’m pretty dialed in on gaining speed and finding a good line to surf with my 5'11 Gremlin, 34.9L, but since it's so flat, it’s really messing with my flow when I try to crank out turns - feels like I’m getting stuck in place. What do you reckon? Oh, and I’m sitting at 72 kg and 171 cm, if that helps.
@@Gilloozz the gremlin I have is straight grovel dimensions and it’s great for the smaller days, but I find the same thing where it surfs pretty flat. The DD2 would be a good option as it is more of a high perf outline. Given your height and weight, I would say that gremlin is a little long/ high volume. I’m 84kg and 180cm and ride my gremlin at 34L. Whatever you go with, I think going smaller overall will help cranking better turns. Maybe a 5’9 or 5’10 DD2
@@SurfTechChannel thanks brother, needed the motivation to take the decision of getting the 5'9, cheers 🍻 edit: would you recommend the Red tiger over the DD2 ?
Hey I’m 5”9 I’m 125 pound which stock option should I get. I was thing about the 5”8 but I don’t it to feel to bulky and what is that max feet this board can ride Thanks
@@SurfTechChannel I am currently riding a 5”4 groveler from a local shaper and I found it’s a little to small and would like something a little bigger I would say I’m lower intermediate and I’m typically surfing 2-5 ft of waves that are typically steeper

@@Ian-1080 I don’t think so, I usually ride 31L and this one was about 32.5. I helped a lot for smaller summer slop! You can always loosen it up with different fins

Both are great boards, I would say it depends on the type of waves you’re surfing, the BV2 has a more continuous curve to the rocker as to where the DD2 is flatter in the middle and flips up on the ends. I would say the DD2 is better in smaller gutless surf, but if your generally surfing better waves the BV2 is a better option.

The originals were cool and I'd say sort of started the whole shorter wider trend. This second version is a little more updated with modern flare!!
Is the spine tek eps good for a daily board riding it even when waves are choppy?

I could see the pivot fins working well with this board as the features do a lot of the work too!
