    Too bad that sound is clipping. Loud enough isolated headphone monitoring is crucial!

    Undoubtedly, the best jazz musician Chile has ever produced. And, of course, she had to be a chilean girl!
    Indudablemente, el mejor músico de jazz que Chile ha producido. Y, por supuesto, tenía que ser una mujer chilena!

    Me hubiera gustado que el sonido del saxo fuese más alto. ¿Ese micrófono estaba bien puesto?

    • @eglc100
      @eglc100 8 ปีที่แล้ว

      El micrófono solo capta el sonido, su posición si parece extraña, aunque tambien podría ser que el problema fuera la mezcla y reproducción o amplificación...de que resulta un sonido pequeño para el sax, eso lo pudimos escuchar...desgraciadamente...

    Ensayando 10 horas diarias durante 5 reencarnaciones más, interpretaré igual que Melissa; al menos eso espero. Hasta me emocioné escuchándola, cosa rara en el jazz.

    Wasn't sound guys fault. She doesn't have enough experience to know she isn't close enough to the microphone. And.......she isn't playing loud enough. Partly because she's barely taller than her saxophone.

    • @whatsyourstory1
      @whatsyourstory1 10 ปีที่แล้ว +8

      'she doesn't have enough experience' according to who, you? You evidently know nothing about her... 'barely taller than her saxophone' are you serious? I can't get over how degrading and bigoted this comment is coming from someone who seems to know little about playing the saxophone (you don't need to be a six foot man to get a sound out of the saxophone if that's what you're implying). If you watch the whole competition aswell you'll notice that for some of the other musicians the piano is overpowering too.

    • @larodmusic
      @larodmusic 10 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      She's playing at a perfect distance from the Mic. You want the mic to get the natural sound of the saxophone, if you get in too close it will mostly recover the sound from the bell, which is not the natural sound of the saxophone. If you were a musician you will notice that the Piano and bass are too loud which means that the sound guy wasn't balancing things, so bad sound guys is to blame.

    • @HarrellEngineDyno
      @HarrellEngineDyno 10 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hog wash. I am a musician. For her to play that far away from the mic, the sound guy would have to raise the gain so much that it would pick up tons of bleed over from the stage. I guarantee you it would feed back. Any working musician knows this. ESPECIALLY with a condenser mic. Beginners mistake, not a big deal. She will learn.

    • @deepkeel65
      @deepkeel65 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      HarrellEngineDyno Have to agree. She's playing phenomenally, just a bit softly, but mainly needs to get better "mic'd up". Too bad someone didn't step in and tip the mic down a bit for her after the first tune.

    • @saxed1616
      @saxed1616 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@HarrellEngineDyno Disagree. Definitely soundman's fault. When she is playing alone that mic is picking up nothing. All you hear is her acoustic sound. I've heard her live and she is not a forceful player anyway...more finesse and sub-tone work. She plays more in the lower register than altissimo and when she goes up there its more a sweet tone (back in style as evidenced by Seamus Blake, Chris Potter, Joshua Redman, Joel Frahm, etc.) than a scream. Soundman should adjust levels based on her style of playing. Also, since it is a condenser and not directional mic she is actually pretty much in the ideal spot for the mic. That mic is not hot enough or not working at all and that is the soundman's fault. Plus, he is hearing the mix and should know she is too low and I heard not one bit of level adjustment as the musicians played. Melissa has no idea what it sounds like out front. Finally, there are mics on the drummer and as you've seen in the comments I'm not the only one that thinks the drummer is also too low in the mix. You can barely hear him. Do you think he was playing too far from his mic? Sound man blew it.
