Saw Mahogany Rush open a show for Ted Nugent in 1979 at the Boston Garden- Completely amazed at how an opening act had the opportunity to dust the headliner!! Mahogany Rush just levelled the damn place!

It went over well everybody like us. Franks Band was standing on the side of the stage smiling because we were just jamming Frank Marino came on stage after we were done and did an amazing job. Thank you Frank for letting us back you up. It was a chance of the lifetime…

The first concert I ever went to, Mahogany Rush was the second act of a three band gig. Brownsville Station was the opening act and Black Sabbath was the headliner. Mahogany Rush got two encores. Frank's playing was incredible, he played some Hendrix stuff too.
i seen this band in a small bar on the far south side of Chicago around 1990. We were front and center with about a total of 50 people. They destroyed the place. greatest gig ever.

Frank played this all 5 times that I saw him. 1 time, the last song of the show was Amazing Grace. It was an instrumental. All of the black porters went straight to look to see who the hell was playing it. Cool moment, cool show.

Mahogany Rush played a tiny rundown venue called the Leona Theater in Homestead, PA, a few miles SE of Pittsburgh, in 1977 or 1978. It was one of my top five concerts of all time, and believe me, I've seen an awful lot of the big-name acts.
I have seen several rock groups perform since the mid 70's. In the late 70's I saw Frank Marino and Mahogany Rush in El Paso Texas at Liberty Hall for $3.00. This concert exceeded my expectations and was by far the best concert that I have attended. Frank, stop by for a beer sometime.

I don't know about more advanced he always has had a more polished sound then Hendrix. Technically more advanced ? It could be true though. Hendrix did have a lot more of a raw sound than Frank. I love both those guys but Frank is a lot easier to listen to. His style reminds me of Robin Trower and his vocalist James Dewar's sound they had together. So I agree with Johnny Delbravo who commented earlier. Fucking awesome music that is for-sure.

Yea a lot of hype abiut ed because he was a good guitarist, great songwriter, and an original. Frank was known in the 70s for his hendrix covers and for the whole hendrix trip because his original music at the time wasnt very original and was derivative of his influences

@@FURDOG1961 Rush were too "hard rock" for Frank's taste. He was always about the psychedelic sound. Even though he can be very heavy as well.

I don't know about more advanced he always has had a more polished sound then Hendrix. Technically more advanced ? It could be true though. Hendrix did have a lot more of a raw sound than Frank. I love both those guys but Frank is a lot easier to listen to. His style reminds me of Robin Trower and his vocalist James Dewar's sound they had together. So I agree with Johnny Delbravo who commented earlier. Fucking awesome music that is for-sure.
I happen to have "MahoganyRush Strange Universe" & "MahoganyRush child of the novelty" LP's does it have a value? anyone?
The gatefold version of Strange Universe is more collectable, if in good condition. These are seemingly always on eBay; not that rare.

Frank lived, that is, failed to kill himself. So, as he matured, so did his playing and his songwriting.
Frank worships the ground Jimi walked on, and for a time thought his soul possessed him. On some songs it did, but not on "Ditch Queen" ;)

Yea a lot of hype abiut ed because he was a good guitarist, great songwriter, and an original. Frank was known in the 70s for his hendrix covers and for the whole hendrix trip because his original music at the time wasnt very original and was derivative of his influences
