    A classmate in my school, 40 years ago, wrote Frank Marino down on paper, and I should look it up in the record store. I have never regretted my classmate's advice. I am so fortunate to listen to Frank Marino's music before I leave this world and go to heaven. Thank you so much, Life, that this happened to me.

I saw him in concert many times seeing that I am 65 and he always blew my mind musically and solo wise, why he is not mentioned with all the greats is beyond me and I saw them as well, and to be honest he blew allot of them away. If you could say Marino's sound came from Hendrix it was that Marino listened to Hendrix as many of us aspiring rock guitarist did in those years. Marino is one of the best studio techs as well as guitar artist and producers. He said it came easy and became therapy for a bad drug experience He had. His lack of notoriety was because He refused to play the industries games which has made his followers most loyal. Its not about fame and fortune but the music. Rock on Frank.

      @Todd918 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Frank Marino's sound didn't come from, well all musicians were inspired down the line, Frank loved hendrix like most of us do, but Frank has his own style, with the exception of his early album or two Mahogany Rush, Frank was born with the voice he has, he never attempted to sound like hendrix, some other guitarist like Robin Trower tried a little to hard, not putting Trower down, Frank came down the pike after Hendrix, that's why Frank, to many didn't get the recognition he deserves, criminally underrated in my opinion, Frank is the best guitarist, I love music so I'm not on here trying to talk all of that, thanks for posting this, it's killer music man

    If any of you younger folks wanted to know what acid rock was in the 70's, this is as good example as you can find!
    Long live acid!

    • @jameslanning8405
      @jameslanning8405 9 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      WarHog38 Having experienced acid, in the LSD form, I can say, "I already knew that."
      But acid rock was also a sound. Not just in the lyrics, or the beat. But in the sound of the instruments together. Especially in the guitar. It wasn't just an American sound...
      After all, Frank Marino is Canadian.
      Yes, it was started in the 60's, but it continued on, all the way to the 80's.
      As for European sound, I'm a big fan of Yngwie Malmsteen's guitar licks!

    • @jameslanning8405
      @jameslanning8405 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      gglaw42 Maybe "acid," isn't just cut n dry.
      Music genres evolve all the time. I think the music, including instrumentals, could define music as being acid, by a certain sound made by instruments, or maybe a mixing process in the recording of the music.
      I never said Yngwie Malmsteen was acid. Speed metal maybe. But Malmsteen is from Sweden, a european country. That was what I was pointing at.
      I think music like Mahogany Rush, Robin Trower, and others, is in an acid category.
      How about "No. 9," from the Beatles?
      Or Iron Butterfly's "Inagodadavida?"
      Don't sound effects created by the instruments played in a song qualify, as much as other "sounds," recorded in a song?

    • @jharekcarnelian
      @jharekcarnelian 8 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Yes and he is often unfairly written of as a Jimi Hendrix clone which is annoying, obviously there are touches of Hendrix as an inspiration in there at points but he has his own distinct and unique voice. I only started listening to him a few months back and he is indeed seriously underrated and this is a fantastic song.

    • @jameslanning8405
      @jameslanning8405 7 ปีที่แล้ว +5

      Frank was a big star in Canada, where he is from.
      But no, he got little air time in the US. I never understood why that was, except he wasn't signed up with a US based recording corp., so he was kept out of the mainstream.
      But that didn't prevent his abilities from crossing the "Canuck," border!
      There are many of us that have been fans of Frank since our youth in the 70's.
      That's right young un's, gramps rocks out!

    • @jharekcarnelian
      @jharekcarnelian 7 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      James Lanning I'm from Ireland originally, I heard of Frank years ago when reading an article on Hendrix 'clones'. I feel having listened to him now a lot it's not a fair assertion regarding the man.

    • @jameslanning8405
      @jameslanning8405 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      jharekcarnelian I agree bud.
      While Frank may be a fan of Hendrix, or maybe even play some of his tunes, he has his own music as well. And He has his own playing style and his own take, so that even when he plays a hendrix tune, it's not a "cookie cutter," copy.
      And that's a good thing!
      One could make such an assertion about other guitar players. As I said, Yngwie Malmsteen was a huge fan of Hendrix.
      But I wouldn't call him a "clone," either.

    A few of years ago when I had a desk top computer and surround sound with speakers up by ceiling 1 in 3 corners 1 on top shelf of desk and subwolfer on shelf underneath for gaming I played robin Trower..Malmsteen.. Nugent to name a few. This is fabulous on a system like that

  • @GTX1123
    @GTX1123 8 ปีที่แล้ว +67

    Frank Marino and Robin Trower were the heir apparents to Hendrix after he died. I always thought it was interesting how they each emulated different aspects of Hendrix style. Marino's playing always sounded darker to me that Trower's.

      @minerva1157 8 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      I remember that era well. I enjoyed both and I guess I never gave it much thought, but you are correct! It turned out that nobody could fill Jimi's shoes, but it was certainly interesting listening to the world's best guitarists try.

    • @GTX1123
      @GTX1123 8 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      Stevie Ray Vaughn was another guitar phenom who emulated Hendrix and was as good as Trower or Marino. Stevie Ray captured a bit more of the blues side of Hendrix' style.

    • @jameslanning8405
      @jameslanning8405 7 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Vaughn may have emulated Hendrix, but Hendrix was also a blues fan...

      +dyr234 Sir, you have primo taste! Captain Beyond's first album re-arranged my brain. Rhino Reinhardt and Ritchie Blackmore got me into playing guitar. Tales of the spanish warrior is one of my top 5 along with Raging river of fear.

    • @benwillard2998
      @benwillard2998 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +dyr234 Also Rod Evans was sued by Deep Purple in the 80's for reforming another Deep Purple. Rod Evans was singer and he had other musicians that I have never heard of play under the Deep Purple name. Deep Purple sued him for over $600,000 and won. Rod Evans hasn't appeared publicly since that. He was approached by Rhino sometime in the 2000's to reform Captain Beyond, Rhino died in 2012 and it never happened. This is all from Wikipedia, so I don't know how accurate it is.

    Summer of 75' I was 7 years old went to the mall with my older brother who was 14 he bought two albums 'Strange Universe' by Mahogany Rush and 'In Trance' by the Scorpions (w/Uli Jon Roth on guitar). Couple of weeks later he brought home a tape of 'Visions of the Emerald Beyond' that was a good year. I have a cool brother. Thanks bro!
