    make sure down the road when you finish the last 5% to caulk the leds in the channel, otherwise you’ll get mold underneath the strip and on top of smelling bad it could potentially damage the strips

      @@ChrisMaherDIY Do you have a 3D Printer? I ordered those LED channels you recommend and I'm going to measure them and try to recreate them to see if it can give a similar light diffusion. If you have a 3D printer I'll send you the link when I'm done 🤤

    • @ChrisMaherDIY
      @ChrisMaherDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@MrDubstepOCE At the moment I do not have a 3d printer. I'm trying to hold off as long as possible because I'm scared about the amount of time I might spend playing around with one lol. Do you have any recommendations for a good one if/when I eventually do get one?!

    • @MrDubstepOCE
      @MrDubstepOCE 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@ChrisMaherDIY Well, I would say the thing that matters the most when considering really is how large you think you want your build plate. I only have an Ender 3. Its a very good entry level 3D printer for just a few hundred bucks that has a massive modding community behind it allowing for tons of upgrades. (Video Reference th-cam.com/video/kG_YKeJDaX8/w-d-xo.html) The build plate is 235mm x 235mm (9.25in x 9.25in) so when I attempt to make those diffusers I'm going to try a lincoln logs method where each diffuser is only 250mm (to achieve the same 1m length if wanted) but they can lock together to give whatever length you want, and would fit on any print plate. The thing that matters most with whatever printer you get is make sure to try to calibrate it to the best possible settings. Measuring and changing your E stepper, Stepper motors. Etc. Its a HUGE part of getting clean prints. And the absolutely most frustrating part of 3D printing lol

      @ChrisMaherDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks again for the question! Are you wondering if they are cuttable? I did not see any cut points. My guess is you can cut them but you would first have to somehow get into the silicon tubing to find out where the led strips they are using can be cut. It would be nice if there were clear indicators on the outside if/where they could be cut! Great question!

    I've been watching your videos for a few couple of days now, I love all you have done with LEDs. I wish someone would do a video for complete beginners who want to add addressable led lights to detolf Ikea display cabinets. As a collector I can tell you many people use these display cabinets and there are options out there for.lighting them but I can't find any videos showing how to create your own light sequences or way to light them up specially when you have multiple of these side by side. If you could give me some ideas on what to do, that would be great. Ideally I want to have the lights install individually into each display but be able to connect multiple or maybe all so only a single.power supply is used rather than 7 of them..

    • @ChrisMaherDIY
      @ChrisMaherDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks so much for watching and for the great question and idea! That would for sure be a fun video to do at some point down the road. I'll for sure put it on my to do list! My guess is the easiest way to potentially do something like that would to use some type of individually addressable led strip (ws2812b or something like that) and then you can use the WLED app to create groups of leds on a long led strip so that you could individually control each section of leds in each section of the cabinet. Thanks again for the idea and I really would like to try doing something like that down the road!

    How many pixels can the ESP8266 run if power management is done correctly?
    My plan is running (3) 5 meter WS2812b (either 30 or 60 pixels/meter haven’t decided) yet and running (2) 200 watt power supply split in the middle sharing only the ground (and data of course). Is that something I can do or will I need to do something different?
    Edit. Got me. Lol You didn’t use that chip in this video.

    • @ChrisMaherDIY
      @ChrisMaherDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lol went with govee since things were waterproof! But even though I have not tested out that many led's on a esp8266, my guess is you for sure can run that many with an esp8266. If you do have any trouble, i would just bump it up to an esp32 and you for sure would not have any issues. But no harm in trying the 8266 first!

    Did you have to cut these ones to length? or what did you do with the excess?

    • @ChrisMaherDIY
      @ChrisMaherDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Thanks for watching! This is the one bummer thing about these lights. They really cant be cut as the led strip is completely sealed in the silicone sleeve. So good thing is they do come in different length so you can kind of piece meal them together based on your project. I think they come in 5, 10 or 16 feet. I did have a little leftover on this particular design that i ended up just covering up with a wood frame. Not perfect but good enough for me!

    Hey I have a quick question
    So I bought four of these rope lights one of them stopped working I believe the board that controls the LEDs messed up in the controller do you think I could use wled to control them with a ESP32. I was thinking about just desoldering the wires from the board and puting them directly on the WLED borad do you think that will work

    • @ChrisMaherDIY
      @ChrisMaherDIY  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      That's a great question! I'm not entirely sure what type of led strip they are using and I have not cut in to them yet to find out. My guess is there is probably a way to get them to work with WLED on an esp32 but i'm not 100% sure. Let me know if you try things out and figure it out!

    Can u cut those led ropes if they’re too long?

      I know they are not meant to be cut as i'm not sure how the app would respond if they were. If you need to cut led lights to a specific length, I would recommend going the more DIY led option of using lights such as the ws2812b strips. I do know the Govee M1 strips can be cut and i've made a couple videos on those! th-cam.com/video/XhMnKVqAIWw/w-d-xo.html

    Can the rope be plugged into an esp board?

      Thanks so much for watching and great question. I have not found a way yet to do this. I'm sure there is some way it can be done but it would depend on what led strip they are using inside the rope and if that would be compatible with WLED/ESP. Maybe someone else watching might know for sure and can chime in!
