I bought a Sage Green Jazz bass and put Quarter Pounders in it because of this channel.
Love the sound for recording Tried playing with my band and all the highs were gone. Didn't really put a lot of time into adjusting the amp/B7k, but love the bass. Using Ibanez SR400 with the band BTW.
    Thanks for the content!

For the bass-boost thing on the Squier Troy Sanders Jaguar: the Fender version also has a 2 Band-band preamp, but its located on the upper horn, like on the original MIJ Jaguar Bass version, and the passive controlls are located on the lower plate like usual. I think the reason for this layout on the Squier is just to cut cost and manufacturing expenses for a more streamlined routing that alligned with the already existing Squier Jaguar Basses, so they could use the same toolings etc.

My number one is a Squier Vintage Mod 70's Jazz with a natural finish and block inlays on a maple fretboard. It looks so cool and after I modified it a little it plays and sounds incredible! I like it better than my Lightwave bass even. The only thing I don't like about it is it's probably approaching T-40 levels of heaviness. But I think that's part of the reason why it hits like a sledgehammer. I have some demos of it on my channel. I have less than 500 bucks total in it and I'm never getting rid of it.

My desire for a new bass has been sated ever since I got a Dingwall NG2. It has everything I wanted in a bass. I also have this weird Warwick Thumb copy with active pickups and it does sound decent. I have to agree with Gibson being total garbage when it comes to basses in recent years. I had the Epiphone Tobias V Deluxe, and it had the worst case of uneven string-to-string output.

Hey kid, (I mean no disrespect but I'm 53 and have been at this a long time). Peavey used to make amazing Amps, Guitars and amazing Bass Guitars. I still have a Solid State Peavey Audition 30 guitar combo amp from 1986 with an 8 inch speaker made in the USA. Peavey was the last of the brands to go to China. I have amazing tube amps and believe me when I tell you that my little 30 watt SS Peavey has unbelievable cleans good enough to hold its own against the Prince of Clean Tone the Fender 65 Princetoin Reverb Amp. Any time you can get your hands on Peavey gear from 1985 to about 2005 believe me you'll get an amazing price/quality ratio that you rarely find in any other brand. Sadly now they've moved to the East and are a shadow of their former glory. Love your collection, cheers. Mike.

My least favorite bass I ever bought was an epiphone thunderbird. The tone was just not there for, but worst of all the neck was so heavy if I let go it would just fall to my knees. I’ve always loved the look, but I’ll never own one again.
Favorite basses were an Ibanez SR500 and Schecter Riot Session 5. But that’s because they were super cheap and the quality for so little is better than I could imagine.

Can't wait for the follow up video where you regret thinning the herd ;-) I have an '08 American made Fender Jazz bass with a solid maple neck/fingerboard, which is the only bass I own after downsizing. I originally bought an '07 floor model at Guitar Center on closeout towards the end of '08 for only $600 because the store needed to make room for new inventory! After taking it home and attempting to set it up with my bass instructor, we discovered the truss rod was frozen. He called a buddy of his who worked for Fender, and as it turns out, that serial number was part of a bad batch. Can't remember if there was any warranty involved, but I took it back to Guitar Center the next day, and they were able to get to Fender send me a factory fresh '08 with no additional charge! Although I personally feel that a maple fingerboard is a little out of place on J-bass, I love the thing. The maple gives it a nice crack for slap and a really sharp growl throughout the mid-range. Of course, I am thinking about scaling up my collection again hahaha.

I know I'm way late on this one, but I have an '09 Fender Highway 1 P bass I got new in 2009 and I love it. It isn't the easiest to play with the huge neck, but man it sounds awesome. My only issue is going back and forth between flat and round wound strings. The flats are amazing but the round cobalts I put on it a couple of months ago sound great in a different way. I really need a 2nd P bass, I guess. Fender P bass, MOAB (Mother of All Basses). LOL Great video. Thanks for sharing -almost two years ago!

Patrick's warning about the Squier duds is real. I have friends that have all sorts of Squier basses and love them, and so bassed off their reviews I bought a VM '77 Jazz bass online. And then I recieved the most annoying type of dud. In general, the playability and tuning stability was really pretty good. Pickups would hum more than I'd like soloed, but I also play right next to a ton of equipment that could give off signals and all that. BUT, by far the worst part was that the open strings would have this almost chrous-y sound to them, with tons of weird overtones, while fretted notes didn't. It was absolutely maddening, so I had to return it.
TLDR: Squeirs can be good, but always play them first.

I have a MIJ Fender "Midnight" P-bass. All glossy black. "Fingerprint magnet" as you say. I simply wash my hands with soap and water and dry with a clean towel before I pick her up. Problem solved. Also, try practicing a different style of bass playing. You have a fantastic rapid pick attack method that sounds great but you should learn some more mellow finger funk. Stop always relying on an explosive hard attack. Do that for awhile and then pick up a P-bass strung with worn in flatwounds. Your appreciation for both will likely be more realized.

Buddy, you should get a Sterling Sub Ray4. It's a Stingray for 300 bucks new. I think they sound better than the real deal. I have one and I've always just loved the feel and the sound of it. It's so punchy and aggressive. But you have to put rounds on it to let that growl out! If you ever go into Guitar Center they usually will have a few of them. You should try one!

Hipshot 3 pointer? Why not the Babicz? Looks better IMO. Im gonna get one for my Epi TBird Classic (the one with the Gibson PUs) best affordable bass Ive played. From all that talk and demos you hear about it being muddy I was surprised when I actually played one and found out it sounded very clear. The only things needed upgrade are the bridge and plastic nut, everything else is excellent and I LOVE the neck. Also no dive for me. Thinking of getting the new 60s style reissue as well

If you like that Fender (Squier) Jag, you'll like the Ibanez Talman Tmb300.

7:03 man you should get a Hofner violin bass. The company that made yours I don’t think did a good job but I think you’ll be amazed with hofner’s version so if you get the chance try it out.

I know this is an old post, but regarding the ibanez sr and the lakland I found out that the pickups are ok, but the bartolini preamps (cheap) sucked. I never liked the sound of those like you say, but changed to a darkglass preamp and it sounded huge.

I'm not a musician, but I like basses. I plan to buy one someday and learn how to play it. But I really don't get what you guys mean with "it's not the greatest sound in bass"... I mean, what is a good or a bad sound really? For me (an untrained ear), they sound very similar. Can't you just set it up so you get different sounds?

Hey Patrick I would try the sr with flatwounds! Unique sound with effects I think could be a more fun and enjoyable experience
