I discovered Franco Fagioli only last year and thank my lucky stars I did. By now I’ve got all his albums and opera recordings, CDs and DVDs, and can’t get enough. I listen to them all the time. Also, he has led me to discover a lot of baroque operas I never knew of before. Sheer delight. Thank you, wonderful Franco!

Музыка эпохи барокко требует точного инструментального интонирования. К сожалению у контртенора достаточно ограниченный репертуар, в основном именно эпохой барокко, а оперы этих композиторов практически не ставятся на сценах театров. Но Фаджиоли браво.

Nobody knows what Farinelli sounded like. However, as a castrato I imagine he would be more akin to Jaroussky than the slightly deeper tones of Fagioli, Sabata, and other top countertenors of the present era, most of whom can span three octaves.
I just read that he took lessons from Bartoli & MAN ! does it show in his performances :: horrible facial contortions / grimacing. He sounds more believable & more "real" than c.b. & I like his lower-register, it's the best for a counter-tenor, but comparing him to Farinelli just isn't sustainable & the schizophrenia of the face was not a trait of that great singer who didn't "laugh" throughout the arias.
My thoughts exactly. However, I'm not disparaging Bartoli. She is so invested in her artistry that it sometimes sounds frenzied. But that's not always a bad thing.

La mezzosoprano italiana Cecilia Bartoli en su album Sacrificium (recopilación de arias raras que hicieron famosos a los llamados cantantes "castrati" del siglo XVIII como Cafarelli y Farinelli) incluyó algunas arias espectaculares del maestro Pórpora, entre las que destaca la muy gustada "Cadrón". Franco Fiagoli es muy superior a la Bartoli en estas arias no hay la menor duda!!
