And if you were into the UFC, it was Ronda Rousey’s walk out song. Joan Jett is a total badass rocker, this song was EPIC when it came out. It was getting played everywhere, and everyone could sing along to the chorus. Total party song. 🤘🎸
Yes!! The Pretenders are great!! Message of Love, Kid, Brass in Pocket, I'll Stand by You, Talk of the Town, Stop Your Sobbing, My City was Gone, Precious, Back on the Chain Gang, Tattooed Love Boys, Thin Line Between Love and Hate.
Saw Joan in concert. She’s so tiny, yeah! But rocked the house down. True, hard-core rocker. Bred from the punk era, she definitely help set the standards for female rock stars. Legendary. For almost 45 years , this song has been a mainstay of radio play. When it comes on, you can bet there’ll be a group of women singing along full-tilt. Amazing man.
The song in the beginning is “Bad Reputation” from her first solo record in 1980 (right before forming the Blackhearts). The Runaways (Joan’s first band, all teenage girls) had a reputation for being “jailbait” rock and had a reputation for partying. However, after the Runaways broke up in Spring of 1979 Joan went into a DEEP depression. She contemplated joining the military, but MUSIC was her PASSION. At first she didn’t know WHAT to do. When the Runaways were a band the MEDIA and the INDUSTRY all told them “girls can’t play rock n roll” (something the Go-Go’s and other female artists and bands would deal with) and at this point it LOOKED like they all won and were laughing at Joan. She started drinking REAL heavy and abusing drugs badly. She hung out w/ “punks” from the L.A. scene such as Sid Vicious and others, that got her labeled as a trouble maker, thus she had a bad reputation among the industry and NO ONE would sign her to a record deal (23 major and minor record labels sent her rejection letters which she still has to this day), so Joan and her manager started their OWN label “Blackheart Records” and put the first 2 albums on their own. The SONG “Bad Reputation” was about her attitude towards the haters. “Everyone can say what they wanna say, it never gets better anyway. So WHY should I care ‘bout a bad reputation anyway? Oh no!” AFTER the song and album “I Love Rock n Roll” became HUGE they RE released the song “Bad Reputation” as a single and NOW became a hit!!! They recorded a video for it basically giving a middle finger to all the record companies that told her NO, worth checking out. The song would also become a staple in Pop Culture being used as the opening song for the show “Freaks and Geeks” and used in films such as “10 things I Hate about you” and “Shrek” and recently as Professional Wrestler Ronda Rousey’s walk out theme song.
K.D. Lang an artist from Canada has an amazing voice. A few of her greatest songs are Constant Craving, Crying and Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. She will give you chills.
Bad Reputation shows a bit more of her punk side, for sure. Definitely more of an old-school punk jam there. It was kind of the beginning of the angry-girl-rock movement.
It is difficult to convey to you how much this song became an anthem of sorts. It was on the radio all the time, it was at parties, it was at clubs, it was blasting at packed college bars with drunken sorority girls belting it out, on and on.
Joan Jett 🔥 the song in the beginning "Bad reputation" is a banger too. If you want to hear a really good female rock singer you have to check Halestorm with Lizzie Hale.
I just found this channel a few days ago. I love the music he listens to. More than that you can tell he’s really enjoying himself instead of just a technical thoughts. I love watching his expression changes and enjoyment
She loves the military. She has given free shows for the military for decades. I saw her in the 80s in Okinawa, where she played in what we called The Skoshi Bowl for 12 Marines. Love, love, love Joan Jett.
In 1975 an all-girl rock group called The Runaways hit the scene and were a shooting star, Joan was the rhythm guitarist and backup vocalist. After their breakup, Joan put out a few singles and in 1981 she hit #48 in the US with "Bad Reputation", the first song you heard. Her next 1981 single, "I Love Rock n Roll" hit #1 and the rest is an historic run to the Hall of Fame.
She's awesome. First song was Bad Reputation, amazing. Also, I Hate Myself For Loving You, Cherry Bomb and Do You Want To Touch Me. She will blast your socks off.
THIS is a true rock anthem if there ever was. Joan Jett rocked like no other female had, and this song spoke volumes about what female vocalists were really capable of. Loved Joan Jett and had that hair cut, that look. This song still speaks to my inner youth whenever I hear it. You need to watch the documentaries about her and her band, The Runaways. They broke down gender barriers in rock, and she is still seen as an idol to so many rockers. DIVE DEEP HERE, DECLAN! 🤘🏼🤘🏼
I ALMOST agree with this statement. But Lita Ford and Pat Benatar were right up there with her. Was she the first stand out, yes. But don't forget the others.
Joan is a great person. I met her at a party in LA as a guest of a band named Stryper. We shared in a good conversation and had some laughs about music videos.
Joan Jett was a member of the infamous, all female, 70s L.A. punk band The Runaways. The Runaways were Lita Ford, Joan Jett, Cherie Curie, Jackie Fox and Sandy West. Their biggest hit was the song "Cherry Bomb". Ford and Jett would go on to have huge successful solo careers.
We had a school exchange trip to Quebec and our hosts spoke little English and we were a bunch of 12-year-old American kids that spoke little French. This song came on and EVERYONE was signing this at top volume. Such a fun memory!
Fantastic song by Joan Jett! This was from 1981 (I was in 9th grade). She is from the US, and I think she got started in/around Los Angeles, but I don’t know if that’s where she’s originally from. That song was a remake from the British band, The Arrows, from 1975, by the way!
I'm 47, this was the first song I've ever fallen in love with. She was my first crush. I was 4 when it came out. Changed my taste in music forever! 🤘😈🤘
Just in case no one pointed it out yet, when she was in Runaways band, her guitarist was Lita Ford. Idk if you’ve listened to Lita Ford yet on here but she’s another female rocker you should look into
Yes! Lita is a rock godess through and through! She's everything that Melissa Etheridge ever wanted to be (but couldn't quite nail down) as a musician.
Every time I hear Joan Jett, I have to recommend The Gits, Second Skin. Great talent can't be murdered, and Ms. Jett recognized that. Huge hats off to her.
Joan Jett was always bad ass, and she followed right in synce with Suzi Quatro, another bad ass chick from. The 70's and 80's. The song I. The beginning is Joan Jett, Bad Reputation, another must listen. Suzi Quatro and Joan Jett were groundbreaking in women busting into the rock scene. Try Suzi's "48 Crash"
Joan Jett is STILL a freaking bad ass at 65 years old. She still tours. She's also a huge Baltimore Orioles (baseball) fan. She keeps a tablet on stage during the season so she can follow the games. Whenever she's performing near where the Os are playing, she does her best to get to the games.
I saw Joan Jett and Heart pre pandemic as well. This was the third time seeing her live. In the 1980s my dad and I saw Joan Jett in Philly at the JFK Jam! I was a teenager! I will never forget my dad saying Joan Jett puts on a hell of a show! My dad said he couldn’t believe she did a split in the air ! I think she did it with her guitar 🎸 in hand! Joan actually was born in Wynnewood, Pennsylvania in the United States! This is a suburb near Philadelphia! She is often referred as the “Godmother of Punk” and the “Queen of Rock n’ Roll “!
When the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame opened in 1986, there were 10 inductees. These guys are the foundation of rock music and have been revered and respected by every performer since. 6 black: chuck berry, fats domino, ray Charles, sam cooke,James Brown and little Richard. 4 white: Elvis Presley, buddy holly, Beverly brothers and Jerry Lee Lewis.
Sooo proud of you, all those subscribers, can’t fool us, we can see those who really LOVE music hate those reactions that are just doing it for the money- not you man, you’re the real deal, keep your passion and keep up the good work 🎉🎉🎉
I went to a concert at the MK Bowl in 82, the line up was Joan Jett and the Blackhearts, Heart, The Tear Drop Explodes, finished off with a full two hours of Queen. Quite a day
She is badass!!!! I saw her in concert a couple years ago. She came out in full leather….in July and KILLED IT! Still sounds the same. The song in the beginning is hers too. Bad Reputation. My favorite is I Hate Myself For Loving You. She’s worked with alot of amazing artists and bands. She’s covered some great songs as well. Enjoy the rabbit hole!
Whenever I get to comment on a Joan Jett reaction, I always say that I had a huge crush on her when I was 14 in 1984. I still do and she still looks great these days.❤😂 and she has the best yowww! In the business.
By the time Joan got this band it was her second and she was in her full glory. Her first band was The Runaways. A band of 15 and 16 year old girls who kicked in the doors of rock n roll clubs and held their own.
I attended high school in the early 80s. One of my classmates was obsessed with Joan Jet’s “I love Rock and Roll” and would play it on his boom box in the halls as he moved between classes. Whenever I hear that song it takes me back.
THANK YOU for reacting to JOAN JETT!!! She is called the “Godmother of Punk” and “Queen of Rock n Roll”, and has pioneered women in hard rock since the 70’s! Joan Jett got her first guitar at 13 as a Xmas present from her parents and was musically influenced by T-Rex, Bowie, Iggy Pop & SUZI QUATRO. At 15 years old she started the FIRST ALL GIRL punk/metal influenced hard rock band in 1975 (originally with Mickey Steele on bass and lead vocals, though she was fired and later joined the Bangles) which also featured a teenage Lita Ford on lead guitar and vocalist Cherie Currie (However, FANNY was the first all girl ROCK band but punk had not come into the music scene yet until the mid 70’s). In 1976 they debuted their first album “The Runaways” which spawned the classic song “Cherry Bomb”, which Joan Jett wrote as an audition song for vocalist Cherie Currie, alluding to her name and the fact that they were all “teenage firecrackers” (Cherie Currie, 16, wore a corset, fishnet stockings, black underwear and high heels on stage which gave them the reputation as “jailbait rock”, the other girls HATED IT). Although this was their most recognized song, it certainly does not define them as a band. Their album debuted the same time that Heart debuted their album “Dreamboat Annie”. Both bands had to deal with sexism and misogyny from the male dominated genre of hard rock, although Heart was backed by male band members, the Runaways got it worse being ALL teenage girls. They released “Queens of Noise” in 1977 and toured Japan where they were HUGE, they were NEVER taken seriously in America. Lead vocalist Cherie Currie quit the band during the tour making Joan the front girl of the band. After the tour they recorded what I think is their best album, “Waiting for the Night'' which Joan Jett wrote most of the songs, along with some songs written by Lita Ford. It was a punk/metal influenced album after touring in England and being exposed to the punk rock scene, later touring with the Ramones, Cheap Trick, etc. By 1978 there was heavy drug abuse and tension among the remaining 3 members of the band (Joan, Lita and drummer Sandy West) after they released their 4th and final studio album “And now, the Runaways” (which featured the song “Black Leather” written by Steve Jones and Paul Cook from the Sex Pistols). Joan Jett gravitated towards a Punk sound and both Lita and Sandy towards a more heavy metal sound. By Spring 1979 the band broke up and Joan Jett began her solo career which would last till this day who is still touring. Later Lita Ford would also find mainstream success and she also is still touring! In 1979 Joan Jett met Kenny Laguna, a producer who also became her manager. Together they set out to launch Joan’s solo career but NO ONE wanted Joan Jett. Joan recorded FIVE songs on a demo tape: “I Love Rock n Roll”, “Crimson and Clover”, “Do You Wanna Touch Me (Oh Yeah!), “Bad Reputation” and “You Don’t Own Me”. The demo was sent to *23* major, and minor, record labels. ALL *23* labels rejected her saying, in essence, she wasn’t marketable. Their letters said Joan “should lose the guitar” or “look prettier” and she needed a “song search”. Not giving up, Kenny Laguna took some money he had saved and both Kenny and Joan started their OWN record label, BLACKHEART Records. They recorded their first album titled “Joan Jett” in 1980 and sold their records at shows from the trunk of their car. Eventually they were signed on to Boardwalk Records and they re-released the album as “Bad Reputation”. Joan put an ad saying, “Wanted 3 good men” for a band and the Blackhearts were formed. While still struggling as a woman in hard rock the band recorded the album “I Love Rock n Roll”. The title track went to #1 on the Billboard chart for 8 weeks in a row!!! The next single “Crimson and Clover” went to #5 (a cover song from Tommy James and the Shondells which Kenny Laguna temporarily played keyboards with and he brought the song for Joan to sing). They re-released the songs “Bad Reputation” and “Do You Wanna Touch Me” and they became hits. The video for “Bad Reputation” was a JAB at all 23 record labels that rejected her (note that the 4 songs that were rejected were 4 hits on the Billboard charts). Joan Jett was HUGE and was touring with Queen, the Rolling Stones, Aerosmith and other big bands. In 1983 she released the album called “Album” which had 2 hits “Fake Friends” and a cover of Sly and the Family Stones’ “Everyday People”. In 1986 she appeared in the movie “Light of Day” with Michael J. Fox, with her acting performance getting great reviews, and the title track song written by Bruce Springsteen. In 1988 “Up your Alley” was released and 2 songs were hits “I Hate Myself For Loving You” and “Little Liar”. In 1990 “The Hit List” was released, an album of ALL cover songs, including the covers of “Dirty Deeds (Done Dirt Cheap)” by AC/DC, “Love Hurts” by Nazareth and “Have You Ever Seen The Rain” by CCR. In the early 90’s the Grunge era came but Joan continued putting out albums and non stop touring. “Notorious” (1992) and “Pure and Simple” (1994) were released. Joan also did other TV shows and movies such as “Boogie Boy”. In 2000 she was doing “The Rocky Horror Picture Show” on Broadway playing Magenta. “Naked” CD was released in Japan (not in America) which had the song “Science Fiction, Double Feature”. In 2006 she released the “Sinner” CD which had the video for the song “ACDC”, a cover of the Sweets’ song (about bisexuality) which featured Carmen Elektra. Joan Jett also toured the Vans Warped Tour main stage that year. In 2013 she released “Unvarnished” and the song/video for “Any Weather” co written by Foo Fighters’ Dave Grohl and the song “Soulmates to Strangers” co written by Trans musician Laura Jane Grace from Against Me. In 2015 Joan Jett and the Blackhearts were inducted into the Rock n Roll Hall of Fame after the previous year when Joan Jett performed “Smells Like Teen Spirit” w/ Nirvana when they were inducted. Throughout the years Joan Jett has written songs for other artists such as Alice Cooper, L7, Bikini Kill, etc. She was dubbed the leader of the “Riot Girrl” movement of the 90’s. She produced other bands and signed them to her Blackheart Records label. She is an animal activist for P.E.T.A. For years she also goes to play free shows for American troops overseas bringing them “a piece of home”. She is a singer, musician, songwriter, producer, record label owner, activist, pioneer, legend and Icon. For a more in depth account of her history check out the Showtime music documentary “Bad Reputation” it’s on TH-cam. For LINKS to more Joan Jett please visit my “Community” tab on my channel and there’s plenty to react to!!!
This song is an example of the concept of serendipity. Or what is meant to be. It's a song from a British band called the Arrows. "Joan Jett saw the Arrows perform "I Love Rock 'n' Roll" on their weekly UK television series Arrows while she was touring England with the Runaways in 1976". That was the only time they performed the song on TV. The Arrows version never went anywhere. Joan released it as a B side in 1979 and that went nowhere. "In 1981, Jett re-recorded the song, this time with her band, the Blackhearts. This single was released in late 1981 in Australia and New Zealand by Liberation Records, and by Boardwalk Entertainment in Canada. This recording became a US Billboard Hot 100 number-one single for seven weeks, being the only one for the band."
Joan Jett and the Blackhearts' version was on the radio & jukeboxes in the UK as well; I don't remember how high in the charts it was, but it was very popular. 😁 Oh, and there's an alternative (much later) cover version by Ladbaby called "I Love Sausage Rolls". 😂
BAD REPUTATION is the beginning song by Joan Jett. 🔥🔥🔥🔥
Shrek! 😂
And if you were into the UFC, it was Ronda Rousey’s walk out song.
Joan Jett is a total badass rocker, this song was EPIC when it came out. It was getting played everywhere, and everyone could sing along to the chorus. Total party song. 🤘🎸
As MollyBoy's fans, we can't let him do a reaction to Joan Jett without guiding him to The Runaways !!!

You really ought to check out a hit "Cherry Bomb" she had from her first band, the Runaways. It's really raw and aggressive and fun. ❤
Great song! Lita Ford in the band too!!
And good movie too. "The Runaways" movie tells the story of Joan and her first band. A must watch if you like movies that rock.
@mpwiedemann Yeah, that's a good one. 👍
The Runaways - "Cherry Bomb" - "You Drive Me Wild" - "Dead End Justice" - "Take It Or Leave It"
Yeah, it wouldn't fly in today's time.😂😂
Joan Jett and Pat Benatar were two of the sexiest ROCKER CHICKS of that time period! Their music was EVERYWHERE on radio.
Rockers, full stop!!
You have to check out and hear - Joan Jett - Bad Reputation - I hate myself for loving you
These are the next two I would recommend too... also, "Bad Reputation" was the snippet at the start that he wants to hear, anyway. ;-)
Definitely!
She also did an amazing cover of AC/DC's Dirty Deeds.
K.D. Lang an artist from Canada has an amazing voice. A few of her greatest songs are Constant Craving, Crying and Leonard Cohen's Hallelujah. She will give you chills.
♥ The song at the beginning is her song as well. "Bad Reputation"!

^This. Also, side note, Lita Ford (who you may know from a duet with Ozzy) was in The Runaways with Joan.
As a girl listening to rock radio in the 70s and 80s, the females rocked my world. Girls can rock too!
I just love Mollyboy My gosh 2 days in , let’s keep going, Please do
She's awesome. First song was Bad Reputation, amazing. Also, I Hate Myself For Loving You, Cherry Bomb and Do You Want To Touch Me. She will blast your socks off.
Cherry bomb is from when she was in the girl group the runaways
Damn right Joan Jett is a bad ass. Everybody at some point has chanted "I love Rock and Roll" luvs it
THIS is a true rock anthem if there ever was. Joan Jett rocked like no other female had, and this song spoke volumes about what female vocalists were really capable of.

Joan Jett ROCKS 💯
One of the true icons of good ol' Rock & Roll. No gimmicks, no pretense, no window dressing - just raw energy.
Yes! I love Joan Jett! Before she had a solo career, she was in a band in the 70s called The Runaways. So many fantastic songs!
I actually got to meet Joan Jett in 2011, Thunder Valley Casino. Excellent Show. I still have pictures from the show.
Joan Jett - unapologetic three-chord rock n roll. She’s a beast.
Not quite 3 chords. There are some interesting sharping on "jukebox baby" that is a modulation that most covers miss.

Joan Jett is an ICON! Even as a little girl in the 80’s, I had a MASSIVE crush on her! Ever since, as well…
Saw her live in 1982 at the Kingdome in Seattle. She never stopped bouncing around the stage the whole show. So much energy! It was awesome.
I was there, bro! *high fivin' white guy salute*
Lots of folks don’t realize that this is a cover song, but definitely a case where the cover far surpassed the original.
And then there’s Weird Al’s “I Love Rocky Road.”
Chrissie Hynde of The Pretenders is another badass lead singer. Check out Middle of the Road by them.
Just in case no one pointed it out yet, when she was in Runaways band, her guitarist was Lita Ford. Idk if you’ve listened to Lita Ford yet on here but she’s another female rocker you should look into
She's also a nice person. Slings a heavy LP with her tiny frame. Guns are good on her, even at her age. 🤘
Yes! Lita is a rock godess through and through! She's everything that Melissa Etheridge ever wanted to be (but couldn't quite nail down) as a musician.
Miki Steele was in am early version of the band .... Some may remember her as "Michael" Steele of the Bangles....
Another vote for Lita Ford.
@krystal345100 since he already likes Ozzy's music ... one to start out with might be "Close My Eyes Forever" Ozzy & Lita
Also, the female singer/songwriters of the 70s. Carole King, Carly Simon, Linda Ronstadt.
Joan Jett is one of my few rock n roll heroes. Mad respect for that woman
Every time I hear Joan Jett, I have to recommend The Gits, Second Skin. Great talent can't be murdered, and Ms. Jett recognized that. Huge hats off to her.
Her cover of Crimson and Clover is excellent.

Joan is my favorite rocker. I've been a fan since I was 13 and I'm now 61.
I saw her at shea stadium in the 80's. she is still rocking it
Bad Reputation is another Joan Jett classic, in the first bit of the video
Joan Jett is STILL a freaking bad ass at 65 years old. She still tours. She's also a huge Baltimore Orioles (baseball) fan. She keeps a tablet on stage during the season so she can follow the games. Whenever she's performing near where the Os are playing, she does her best to get to the games.
Joan Jett definitely knew how to ROCK. I too always loved her voice.
She's still touring still playing and last year she was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame
I don't think I know ANYONE who doesn't belt out the chorus!! Fabulous and fun song.
Yours are such fun reactions, enjoy them so much!!
"Bad Reputation" was a song by her and was the start of the song you were asking about.
I was fortunate enough to see her and Heart pre-pandemic. They kicked ass! 🖤🖤
Yes! I took my granddaughter to see her, Cheap Trick and Heart in Kansas City. My granddaughter was 14. She fell in love with Joan.
I was 12 when this came out I'm 54 now. Wow! How the years pass.
I saw her in concert when she opened for Rod Stewart. Both were absolutely fantastic!
Sooo proud of you, all those subscribers, can’t fool us, we can see those who really LOVE music hate those reactions that are just doing it for the money- not you man, you’re the real deal, keep your passion and keep up the good work 🎉🎉🎉
You deserve a deep dive into Punk Rock Music. I think it will be a good fit.
Love Joan Jett always!! Keep going! Bad Reputation! Crimson and Clover etc, hardcore/ punk rock, where she came from The Runaways!!❤
Love the over the head hand clap. Bringing back memories to this 61 year old.
1st song-bad reputation? She's very cool. And unique voice. I think very late 70s or early 80s? I don't remember now!
Classic rock, more JJ please! And don't forget about Blondie! ❤️💛🎶🌟 💚 🇸🇪
In the 70's she started out in a band called the Runaways with Lita Ford.... Saw them live in Hollywood way back then.
Always have love Joan Jett ever since her time in The Runaways and as a solo artist
Also Do You Wanna Touch. It’s a banger.
Whenever I get to comment on a Joan Jett reaction, I always say that I had a huge crush on her when I was 14 in 1984. I still do and she still looks great these days.❤😂 and she has the best yowww! In the business.
She played in the Runaways!! Cherry Bomb!
I had the honor of escorting THE PEANUT and her band thru the Frankfurt airport as she came for a USO tour. SO FUCKING SWEET and SOOOOOOOO tiny!
She is still touring...still sounds fantastic..and is playing this year in vegas. Kick ass !
Great reaction to the rock sounds of my 80's youth!
I'm loving the new baseball cap look, really suits you 🧢
By the time Joan got this band it was her second and she was in her full glory. Her first band was The Runaways. A band of 15 and 16 year old girls who kicked in the doors of rock n roll clubs and held their own.
I Hate Myself For Loving You is my fave by her.
I attended high school in the early 80s. One of my classmates was obsessed with Joan Jet’s “I love Rock and Roll” and would play it on his boom box in the halls as he moved between classes. Whenever I hear that song it takes me back.
Wait till you hear her voice !
And totally gorgeous too...great song 🤘
You're definitely going to love it...
Dust in the wind came out 3 yrs after I was born & it was the soundtrack of my youth. You've got good taste. 🤘🏽
I Hate Myself For Loving You is 🔥 🔥 🔥
Joan Jett rocks the leathers and love her voice❤️🇨🇦
Do You Wanna Touch Me needs to be next!! Bad Reputation is the song playing at the beginning. 🔥 🔥
You can also check out Lita Ford, who was also a menber of the Runaways.
I absolutely love this song ❤
My generation had the best singers and groups. Everyone wanted to either be Joan or with Joan. You can't help but love her!!
This song was all over the place in sweden in the summer of 1982. Great memories. 👍🇸🇪
I can attest that this song can up your pool game, even after a couple of beers🍻🎱🔥 80s dive bar juke box adventures✌
She was one of the original badass rockers and still is.
Joan Jett is one of the greatest female rockers. One of the greatest rockers period. She can hold her own with the guys
Donna Summer was the queen of disco. "Last Dance", "Hot Stuff", "Love to love you baby"
Oh, and there's an alternative (much later) cover version by Ladbaby called "I Love Sausage Rolls". 😂
Agreed about DUST IN THE WIND! Helluva song!❤❤❤
Joan Jett IS a bad ass rocker! Thank You!
