One of the most common travel opinions we hear is that "I don't care about staying in a nice hotel, I am just sleeping there anyways". This seems like a valid take but there is a bit more complexity to it which we are going to debate today.

It’s wild that the US economy is largely service driven and were one of the only first world countries that heavily relies on tipping for services (as in the income of the service worker is 90% reliant on receiving tips) but we do not have a hospitality culture:/. Make sense of that. 🤦🏻‍♀️

Don't sleep on hostels in some places, especially while young. Many have private accomodations these days and some of those are actually very nice. But the other people and activities really add to it. Shout out to mad monkey siem reap!

I generally prioritize location over raw luxury if I'm looking for a specific destination (for example, when I went to LTX in Vancouver last year, I stayed at the downtown Marriott instead of the Hyatt Regency because it's closer to the convention center), but if I am going somewhere such as Hawaii or the Maldives, I'd go for a nicer hotel.

Hotels in the US in general sucks in terms of service. Hotels oversea such as ASIA ar way better. I was treated with kindness and respect even when I was only GOLD member with Marriott.

IMO preference of a non luxury property doesn’t make them overrated, especially when circumstance is the biggest driver.

Luxury all the way. Preferably all inclusive. But tbh it’s all based on the travelers budget

It just depends on personal preferences and the goal of the trip. Like are you going for exploration or rest and relaxation
