I remember the day I first saw the mummy. I was 10 (32 now) and My dad (65 today and retired now) had a heart attack he was in surgery and my uncle took me to his place. He was trying to distract my brother and I and he put The Mummy on. After seeing the movie i loved everything about it. I’ve seen the movie 20+ times since than. It's an amazing movie and one that i will always love.
Absolutely f**king love this movie!! Think I saw it at least 3-4 times when it was released and of course now have it on DVD. But I always thought it was really stupid of those ancient Egyptians to basically make some guy they wanted to punish a super villain, lol:) I mean, ok, mummify him alive, great. Put a load of flesh eating beetles in his sarcophagus, nice .... but leave the book that can bring him back to life with super powers right next to his body?! WTF?!
The curse was also a punishment for Imhotep. It condemned his soul to never truly move on after death. The downside was the “if he’s resurrected” part. It’s why they said the curse was so feared by the Egyptians that it had never before been bestowed upon someone. Plus, I’m sure they were thinking “once people read what’ll happen if he’s resurrected they’ll change their minds and just leave him.” Lmao 😅
Such a great movie! No politics. No overbearing themes. No attempt to heighten the material to be more serious than it should be... Just a fun, campy, action flick! Hard to imagine that movies with world-ending stakes used to do so with a small, contained story!
Yeah, I just said F it to new movies last couple of months and returned to watch old movies exclusively and it's breath of fresh air. Even the campy, not really good movies are fun because they don't feel like "Politics for Dummies 101". Here's the premise, here's the idea, have fun, go home. and I don't know if it's because older movies had actual sets so it felt more "real" but the issue with lot of new movies is that I can easily tell it's just actors pretending in front of green screen. "Borderlands" for example, it had that classic cringe scene where entire cast is in one spot (car) and they all yell in shock, and I just couldn't stop thinking how Eli Roth is telling Jamie Lee Curtis and Kate Blanchet to yell and act surprised while they sit on chair in front of green screen.
Definitely a fun movie. I've seen it a few times over the years, maybe more than a few. My only wish is that they would have leaned into the horror a bit more.
I love this movie. Brendan Fraser and Rachel Weisz have great chemistry together. The whole thing is a wonderful adventure, with a beautiful score. It's more action rather than horror, but still a fun watch. Let's remember Boris Karloff wears bandages only in the first scene, and in a flashback. The rest of the time, he is his marvelous, creepy self. And although Christopher Lee wears bandages, he plays it straight as a tragic figure, and a brutal, unstoppable force of destruction.
Solid 8 out of 10. Could have been a little less silly and a little more scary. Still a fun joy ride of a movie. I watched this with my dad when I was about 13. We both laughed and had a lot of fun watching it.
Let's just so happy this how the movie ended up. I just got back from a mummy movie party at the Alamo drafthouse. It was such an incredible thing to see all these attractive people on big screen. The casting is golden, and the CGI still holds up in 2024.
Didn't get to see it in theaters. My mother rented it from blockbusters, and I don't even know how many times i watched it before she took it back 😂 Still one of my favorite films.
I only watched this for the 1st time a few weeks ago. I did get into it, more so than I would have in 99. It is a fun spectacle. I’d like to put in the good word for The Monsters That Made Us podcast, they recently covered this one too.
I just feel like the whole concept of The Mummy would be great as a single player video game. They could straight up do some Elden Ring level sh*t with this
So glad to hear a continuation is one of the "Dark Universe" projects, but given that it's implied "Van Helsing" is in the same universe it makes one wonder why they didn't get Sommers for any consultation. We know he isn't much for sequels, but they need their own Feige for a connected universe.
"Hey Benny! It looks like you're on the wrong side of the river!" "Why did you kiss me?" "I was about to be hanged. It seemed like a good idea at the time."
I hated what they did to 2017 remake. No I had no issue with Sofia Boutella playing the Mummy princess, I thought she was fine, especially at physical movements because she is trained dancer, so she knows how to make physical stuff look cool, but movie was sooooo over the moon with reminding you this is part of "Dark Universal universe" to the point it became annoying. Dr. Jekyll had no business being there as most obvious example. Imagine if you were watching Iron Man movie in 2008 and every 10 minutes Nick Furry shows up to tell you're gonna watch other Avengers movies in theaters soon. That's how the entire The Mummy movie felt, it didn't properly establish The Mummy but it already kept blatantly telling you to go watch others soon. it's the same reason how DC utterly destroyed it's "cinematic universe" as well, by going backwards about it.
This felt nore in line with the Universal Mummy sequels like the Tomb of the Mummy. This was a fun adventure movie with likable characters, great action sequences, and some scary moments. The 2nd movie was fine, but the 3rd was awful.
Universal got greedy. They saw how Marvel was making money from the MCU movies and wanted to get a piece of the pie so bad they ruined everything great about this Mummy movie and it's sequels. They should have combined the worlds of this Mummy with the world setup in Dracula Untold and the 2010 Wolfman to create their Dark Universe. That's what made all the Marvel movies work to create the MCU. They were all great stand alone stories that setup the events to come without needing to go into much detail. Universal just decided to reboot it all into one movie and expect it to work because they had big names like Cruise and Crowe.
First movie was just perfect, sequel captured almost as good, it's kinda weird they never tried to make more mummy films after that, 2 movies are enough I guess.
nothing happened, except we got the turd, I mean third film. which is better to watch of the 2017 blunder. You didn't talk much about the 1959 Mummy, quick clip and not discussion?
The effect might be outdated but the difference is that this movie was made with love as well as the second one. Compared to the new movies with cgi that should be real and looks worst than ps2 effects 😒
Loved this movie. Saw it in a theatre with some classmates. The CGI is shit, but the rest of this film holds up well. This is a kind of action adventure Hollywood doesn't do anymore cos they're to busy grooming other people's children. Also, Brendan Fraser is a fucking Legend.
"Rescue the damsel in distress, kill the bad guy, save the world." Brendan Fraser is a true badass in this movie
This is the pinnacle of 90’s action, adventure films. This movie is so much fun and never gets old

Ages like fine wine - the greatest movie adventure after Indiana Jones! It has become the cult classic and a masterpiece with time.
This is one of my favorite movies from my childhood, it lives rent free in my heart
"Hey, O'Connell! It looks to me like I've got all the horses!"
"Hey, Beni! looks to me like you're on the wrong side of the river!" 😂

Hi benni you look you on wrong side of the river that one funny part of the movie

Love this movie franchise! Great reboot done well

@@njmfff i wouldn't totally write off new movies... The Substance is in theaters right now and it's freaking awesome! There's a few gems every year
@@phatnana2379 Yeah, true, but for every Substance, When Evil Lurks or Resurrection we get like twenty The Marvels or Halloween Ends.
@@njmfff no doubt about that. But the more we go see the good ones, the more money they make. Unless they make money, studios won't greenlight them
Still a fun classic 25 years later!
Best Double Features to watch for a great movie night : The Mummy and The Mask Of Zorro .
I Remember Watching This Movie On Starz Channel Back In October '99 And It Was Pretty Good And R.I.P. Shelley Duvall.
This is such a favorite comfort-movie for my wife and I. We need to cosplay it some day
Saw this move probably a dozen times as a kid. Loved it everytime and such a fun watch
What a great movie. Aged very well
One of the best remakes of all time.
Definitely a fun movie. I've seen it a few times over the years, maybe more than a few. My only wish is that they would have leaned into the horror a bit more.

This has always just been a fun, suspend-belief movie. And guess what? You can go back to it time and time again, and its still that fun movie.
I remember seeing it in the cinema as a kid. It was fun & scary. I still enjoy the film. Its a lot of fun.
what about "Tales from the Darkside: The Movie" mummy segment. it's great!
Rachel Weisz 🤤☺️
One of my favorites growing up and didn't even know it was a remake until I was way grown up. Still love this movie!
As a parallel to Indiana Jones, this movie hits all the right notes. It even surpasses Temple of Doom in my eyes. 🤩
Solid 8 out of 10. Could have been a little less silly and a little more scary. Still a fun joy ride of a movie. I watched this with my dad when I was about 13. We both laughed and had a lot of fun watching it.
Rachel Weisz was so hot in both films.
Clive barkers take on it sounds really interesting but probably lacked the humor and fun of the film we got
One of my favorite movies
Family friendly?
You sure? You missed the bug inside that dude.
I think more people are focused on the accidental 🍆 flash during the scene
Yeah that haunted my dreams for a while.
Don't forget eyes being ripped out
The sequence where Imotep picked up the guy; and you see the shadow of his body get tucked dry and tossed away was creepy.
@@imustbecrazy5626 There was also the shot of the dudes 🐓 during the bug scene
This is one of those films you can just throw on, and have a good time.

Pretty underrated movies (this and the sequel) if you ask me
Didn't get to see it in theaters. My mother rented it from blockbusters, and I don't even know how many times i watched it before she took it back 😂 Still one of my favorite films.
Was he a dried up corpse when found? I swear O'Connell and Jonathan ask Evie if he should be so .... juicy :)

WTF happened to Stephen Sommers?
Nice tease of Bubba Hotep. Lets get a vid on that movie.
The effects might be dated, but there is still worse coming out today
How many times is joblo going to remake this video ?
"Hey Benny! It looks like you're on the wrong side of the river!"

Boris Karloff is still the superior Imhotep.
With the current political antics going on irl, it is prime time to launch that original script for Herb to re-animate the president.

The next best mummy movie after this was Bubba Hotep, you showed a clip.
