Have they ever thought that they actually will make more $$$ by selling at a reasonable price, and move more product, then ticketing items at a higher dollar value that will just sit. It baffles me. I hardly ever go into these stores anymore. I will prefer to spend $10.00 more to get a new product than have a used one.
Thank you for taking the time to tour all the Goodwill locations across your state and then getting a tour of their state facility. It was awesome thank you for the insight.
I don't know about your area but down here in Iowa/Illinois the Goodwills price their stuff at or above new retail. Not a lot of "bargains" to be found.
One of my local Goodwill stores is literally next door to a Dollar Tree. It is extremely common to find Goodwill items clearly from Dollar Tree priced at ridiculous prices. Like $6 for the big square popcorn bucket thing I am sure everybody has seen. $6 for a used one with food residue. OR you can just go next door and get a new one, nice and clean, for $1.25. That particular store has other serious issues. They have a huge job training section but it's STILL closed for the pandemic. But also because that store serves a very ethnic area that the store isn't interested in supporting. They're the "wrong people" to try to help find jobs. This is one of the problems with regional Goodwills. They can and do set policies like this and there's no accountability.
In my area, items in Goodwill often cost more than the same items at Walmart. I'm not joking, I'm not exaggerating, a brand new children's tee was $4.92 at Walmart, $4.99 USED at Goodwill. No amount of "half off tags!" can make paying full price (or close to it) for used items acceptable. Here, people with high-end clothes take them to Plato's Closet (etc) where they can get cash for their items, and not just a tax deduction, so you can't even find a shockingly low price on something like Chanel scarf at the Goodwill stores.
Salvation Army though? That's where I got my cashmere sweater for $3. It was $6, but a half off white tag sale day. 😂
My GW's don't even do a color of the week anymore!
I learn something new every day. Thanks rabbit😮
Prices are goooing up too much. I would like to see ours stores in Wisconsin to be like other states where items have set rates. If things are reasonably priced they will sell. Better to sell for less then end up at the landfill
The set rates are rare. I'm in Washington and worked there as the Ecommerce specialist and all our stores have individual pricing on items.
Outlet merchandise comes from the retail stores. After it has been on the floor for a period its gathered and put in bins to goto the outlet stores where it is sold by the pound. As for consumer new product from retailers that some goodwill's receive across the country comes from shelf resets, end of season, end of life and store returns in some cases. Retailers like Target and WM. make more off of the retail value Donated to goodwill rather than liquidate merch through various liquidators that you traditionally deal with.
Stop Marking things so high some of us especially in NyC are living below the poverty line and go into a goodwill for goodwill prices and you want $50 for a bag I just seen a goodwill selling Fake Bogeta bags for $400 u have to do better especially for us that are not resellers I’m about to be homeless haven’t had food in my some since December and it’s getting cold in NYC and I can’t even go buy boots a decent jacket some winter clothes for a decent price and I need blankets and some dishes but has to put those back.
@@elizabethrokicki5184 spend less time watching videos and look for a job
Oh nice. Wish the CEOs salary was talked about, but great video ❤
Ask if he can get the goodwills in other states to be like theirs.
John..FYI...Goodwill Green Bay says they don't except VHS Player/recorders, at least at GB West according to our clientele/donator at Ablelight.
Interesting. I’m sure the gang at goodwill will be checking these comments. Hopefully they can change that policy (or if it’s not policy, educate the people at the donation door). There’s still a demand for them!
Ponytail now, manbun is next
Is it true they don’t do senior or veterans discount anymore?
We need more outlets in Wisconsin!! I have to travel 2 hrs to get to the one in Appleton.
Will you go through any pallets soon, how about Amazon returns? Thanks!
I get it that GW "say" they are making money for their progams. However, they should NOT be looking online for what they will price their items for! They are NOT an antique store, electronics store, clothing store, etc! I just feel they are pricing ALL of their customers out of their stores! I have been a thrift shopper for well over 30 years and can remember up until about 2016, I would go shopping and ALWAYS fill up my cart with great bargains! Now, I will maybe get 3 or 4 things and spend anywhere from $25 to $30 for that small amount of things!
Oh my gosh, they had a silver Katt Williams!!!
Reverend Edgar J. Helms would be turning in his grave if he saw what goodwill turned into. Definitely a company I’ll never support again
I absolutely hate Goodwill. They get this stuff for free and mark it up so people who can’t afford it can’t buy it. I stopped going to our local Goodwill because they got so greedy that they even charged 24 cents a plastic bag.
Doesn’t it make sense for them to try and sell it for as much as they can? Yeah, it’s frustrating for us resellers, but the more they make, the more they can benefit their charity.
@ their charity? You mean the charity to make the millionaire CEO richer? Also why do you need to charge for plastic bags? That’s what really set me off.
From a consumer standpoint, e-comm sucks. I understand it to some extent, but they don't need to pull every single item. Every baseball card, video game, jewelry item, camera is pulled in Oshkosh. They should want people like us to keep coming in. The only way they can push thousands of items to the floor is to move merchandise. We move merchandise. It's hard to convince myself to come in to two stores, twice a day, when I know not one of those items will ever hit the floor. I buy a lot there, they should want me to keep coming in. It would be nice if they threw me a bone once in a while. Isn't that the reason everyone goes to Goodwill, to get a good deal, whether for resale or for themselves. The idea they do it to test items is ridiculous. They don't test any of the other electronics.
I used to be in my local store three or four times a week; now they're lucky if I'm there three times a MONTH. I go in for a flat, covered place to walk around, and if I happen to find something worth buying it's a rare bonus. I used to drop $100/week sometimes. Now, barring Target holiday chocolate pallets, it's more like $5/month.
I agree totally. It actually costs them money to move things around and process them further, so they should only be using ECOM for their really high value stuff. I do not blame them for trying to get more, but not leaving anything appealing to resellers is going to burn them eventually. Goodwill kinda feels like going to the last day of an estate sale now.
That’s kind of my thoughts. I’m willing to pay up for things, I don’t expect to buy them for peanuts. It’s very discouraging that all the fun stuff is pulled for ecom, but honestly, if I were in there shoes, I’d do the same. Hell, with my own business, I pull a lot of the good stuff and put it on eBay, rather than the sale or auction.
The idea they test ANYTHING is laughable. Stores in my area test nothing. You get donated appliances with crumbs and grease. They give the customer a place to plug in and try it and that's it. Laws may vary but stores where I am don't even wash donated clothes. It goes right on the floor, funk and all. That's one reason walking into some stores smells like walking into a stale closet of dirty clothes. It IS just that.
@@ResaleRabbit Last year the CEO of Goodwill stated that whilst the brand is well known in communities where they have stores it is not anywhere near as well known online and they aim to change that. As the regional said in your interview 90% of what they take in goes to their charter which is training people for the workforce not making us a living. Poshmark is better known online than Goodwill yet many a Poshmark seller sources at Goodwill then there is also the side of those who donate to Goodwill. Most do not donate with thoughts of making some seller a living but there is more looming.
There is The Shop Safe Act which is likely guaranteed become law as it's initial beginnings were with the Trump Administration. It was penned bi-partisan as neither party cares make an enemy of the unified supply chain and now that the GOP has all three houses its basically guaranteed to become law in the USA and likely other nations will follow in some fashion or another. That will have major impacts on many sellers and likely Goodwill want step away or have some sort of variances at play at online points of sale. Atop that there has been an ongoing push with several retailers to get the US Government to apply retail law to all Internet hardgoods sales which is simply a killer and again if that were to come to legislation its 100% sure it would become law because the GOP holds all three houses and are far far far more into protecting the Supply Chain entities than caring how we make a living especially when there 8 million open jobs in the economy.
There are fewer electronics because a lot of them are junk and don't last long enough to donate. And a lot of uses have been moved to smartphones, as they said. Phones don't get donated. They tend to break or get traded in for a new phone at phone stores. The reason for the "new merchandise" is because they want to give the shopper something. You go to Goodwill looking for, say, cookware. But you don't find what you want so you leave and buy it at Walmart. Goodwill wants to intercept that person walking out with nothing, both to make money but also so the customer doesn't feel like the trip is a total loss. The new merch isn't cheaper than Walmart but it's there in the store. Customers also expect things like snacks and drinks at checkout so the stores have it available. One of my local Goodwills has an ice cream cooler. You've been shopping for hours and it's hot, why not cool off, right? That particular store is extremely busy all the time. Not unheard of to have no parking spots. They must be doing something right.
So 90 cents per dollar average going to program and supporting just in that region or that a national average? If that's the case their operating costs have to be bare minimum.
Region. I see no evidence here of any programs at all.
@OriginalNethead You don't see a lot of things happening, none of us do. Doesn't mean they're not happening for those who need and seek it out.
My understanding is that figure is specifically goodwill NCW. I wouldn’t be surprised if other goodwill chains are comparable +/-
Hello from Madison!
Hey Resale my dream was always to move to green bay love the snow and cold if I was to relocate can u get me a job at goodwill and maybe your warehouse I have 30+ years in retail management and customer service I’m just on hard times right now
Excellent viideo!
Well I hope the folks at GW are reading comments . Because I have lots to say .
I’m in Calgary, Alberta .
First, I’m no longer shopping or donating to your stores here . Why ?
In December, I went to GW to look for another winter coat for myself . As soon as I entered , I was pounced on by a really nasty employee, telling me to put my bags behind the cash desk . I had some other purchases that I bought elsewhere . I was concerned they’d get stolen . So I told that staff member off . I was treated like a criminal !!! Way to lose a customer/donater of over 25 plus years . The bin store here has around 20 teenagers crowding others out of the bins . Turns out they’re employed by a man who watches them . They grab all the good items for resale . They’re aggressive as hell . The staff knows this , but won’t do anything about this . I often saw price tags on merchandise from other stores, GW priced it higher . I was also told that staff pull the good stuff off the shelves the night before the 50% off day. I now encourage others to shop/donate at small independent thrifts not Goodwill .
For what it’s worth, that’s a different company. Goodwill is a whole bunch of independent organizations (mostly distributed by city or region). The CEO and offices I got to meet / tour were for goodwill NCW, which covers north and central Wisconsin only (27 locations).
@ I’m hoping they reach out to Calgary , because my concerns ( which are serious ), have gone unheard here .
@@SHERRY0010won’t happen because as stated each district is independent. Also your complaints would be ignored, it’s not unusual for a store to ask you to not have bags in their store for theft reasons. Also every single outlet location is the same thing across the country so that’s not unique and won’t be changing.
@ GW is the only thrift store here that treats you with disrespect . And because of that, they are losing business . I’m not the only one who refuses to shop or donate to them . Other thrifts appreciate us . Choices are a good thing .
Has their price increases been in response to the reselling game? I don't think its fair to non reselling peeps
Utility and building costs go up over time. That could be a contributing factor. If they want to put most forward to services and programs, external operating costs need to be factored in.
I wish Goodwill NCW ran central Connecticut. I call ours Ill Will , and that opinion gets reinforced every month. There is no jewelry whatever, and anything worth reselling, barring mistakes, is culled off for sale on-line before things are sent to the sales floor. One local store does sell jewelry, but it's all horrible quality trash. The store here is used to get rid of the dross. Used clothing is overpriced, and if you wear an odd size don't even bother to look. Women's Tall? Nope. Nada. Zero video games. Any good glass is either a mistake or damaged. Or both. I used to find Waterford; now I'm lucky to see Anchor Hocking. They've chased off almost all of the original reseller crowd, as in all but one. I'm not the one; I'm medically redshirted. Prices on used clothing are stupid, especially anything of wearable quality; you can forget designer or good t-shirts. The very poor and disadvantaged that they're alleged to help are the people who are being forced out of their stores by the prices etc. Said disabled include many OG resellers, who got into it to earn money. The one in Wisconsin still gives a rat fart about their original remit. Around here, I say prove it; I've never seen one single program for people like me, and only one disabled employee across four stores.
The stores around me are overpriced even for personal use.
You can't get a bargain there it's not worth it anymore for the average person that actually needs to get some cheap stuff Goodwill has priced their core customers out they go by resellers and scammers prices on eBay they are only trying to get as much as they can not help anyone out for the average person that's down on their luck and needs a little help getting some cheap stuff Goodwill it's not an option anymore and it has not been for years and years
Goodwill doesn’t exist to sell cheap stuff to the less fortunate. That’s just a bonus. Goodwill is a fund raiser for their other causes. I still find great deals there. Many that I can sell for a profit, plus things like clothing. $6 for an express shirt at goodwill or $60 at express? I know where I’m going.
@@ResaleRabbit U.K. charity shops have the same problem resellers demanding items for next to nothing , prices are set and the shops stick to it ,the idea of a charity shop is to make as much money as possible for the charity , i worked for the British Heart Foundation and all profit goes to researching heart disease where hundreds of thousands people have been saved by research
❤❤❤

Hi John. So you have decided to move your daily-ish videos to patreon only. So, I guess being a subscriber is useless. Only the boring junk like this is what I get to view. Gonna miss ya.
He only ever did the daily videos here between Christmas and New Year's. He normally posts once or twice a week about all kinds of reselling stuff - unboxing, auctions, thrifting, etc. This is the first time he's done a video like this one, but I hope he does more
bye will miss you
@TheChristianna321 thanks Christianna
Goodwill is a joke just money it top people's pockets!!😡
It sure sounds like they do a lot of good based on the programs they told me about on my tour. I had no idea they help people with their taxes or student loans or other financial things.
@ResaleRabbit I hope that is true my friend! Enjoy watching ya!
This is disgusting unsubscribed
