      They look so good!! Thank you for showing us the offal dishes in Sicily. Offal isn't everyone's cup of tea so not only have you shown off your more superior and mature tastebuds, you have also probably shown us something that most travel videos of Sicily won't bother showing.

    The places you choose are the right ones and the description is spot on.

    *_Sfincione_* was the top item on my "absolute must try" list when I visited. Sicilian pizza is super popular in the U.S. as you know and the origins are supposedly sfincione. Did you eventually spot a mobile sfinciunaro as you explored the city?
    *_Brioche con Gelato_* - That looked like a quadruple serving. Damn!
    *_Birra Moretti_* for only €1 each. 😂👍
    Another excellent day, guys. Everything looked quite delicious this day.

    • @ChasingaPlate
      @ChasingaPlate  5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      We did Tosh but he disappeared very quickly around the corner and we couldn’t get to him in time. So annoyed 😆 we did eat sfincione a few times from street vendors but they didn’t hold a candle to the one we ate in this video. It was sensational! Hahaha that gelato con brioche was HUGE! I don’t think I complained once in Palermo about the serving size 🤣 That friggitoria was so affordable- couldn’t get over the great prices! 🙌🥳 thanks for watching and commenting Tosh! Cheers, Sheena

    • @tosht2515
      @tosht2515 5 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I was fortunate because the one I went to was parked. BTW, the sfincione you featured looked so much better than the one I had. 😐😬 I seriously made a face in disbelief when Thomas zoomed in for the first shot. 😂
      Yes, that friggitoria was a bargain indeed. 👍 Sure is fun when cheap street food lives up to expectation.

    • @ChasingaPlate
      @ChasingaPlate  5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Interesting re the sfincione. Was yours from one of the roaming street vendors? That one we had was mind blowing. We ate what you saw in the video then immediately purchased the same again so we could take it home and have it later that night. Dreams 🤤

    • @tosht2515
      @tosht2515 5 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes. The sfincione I had was from a motorized food cart tricycle. I enjoyed it perhaps because it was authentic and traditional but it was quite plain...as the vendor intended it to be I know. But yours had anchovies, onions, bread crumbs! Give me a break!! How perfect is that?

    • @ChasingaPlate

    What an epic food day you had!! I really appreciate you scouring the city looking for the sfincione vendors. That kind of dedication to your viewers is one of the hundreds of things that make me love you. ♥ The grilled lamb intestine looked amazing, and Thomas' description of the flavor and textures were eloquent. I'd definitely be happy in Palermo, as a dedicated nose-to-tail eater. And a couple of icy beers on a hot day never come amiss!

    Its such a shame that ever since COVID-19 happened, so much has changed. I was supposed to go this year to visit my grandparents and uncle and to have a look at a place where I once lived. The last time I saw them was 4 years ago. God knows when I will visit them. All my flights are cancelled 😔 the good thing is that next time we go, we will have saved up more money and instead of just going to Syracuse, we could actually see Roma, Napoli and heaps more other places. If we are REALLY lucky, we could even visit America. Thank you soo much for posting this video. I’ve rewatched it at least eight times now. If I think of Syracuse I always watch this.

    I have never tried lamb intestines. I never had intestines grilled either. Pork chitterlings are usually boiled here in the states. We boil them and put hot sauce on them or eat them with slaw. they are also deep fried and resemble dumplings when they are fried.

    I'd definitely love to try those grilled intestines, lovely char and creamy center mmmm. It's one of my favorite things at my local authentic Mexican restaurants, and I definitely would try that spleen and lung sandwich, but I'd hate to fall in love with it as I don't think we can get those meats in US. I wonder if butchers can even sell spleen and lungs in US?...and the pistachio gelato looked so enticing, so authentic and regional speciality. You both are completely adorable, informative and insightful as ever. Keep your vids coming! We love you guys!

      😍😍😍😍 awww what a lovely comment to receive! Thanks so much SuzyGrowsMyBiz! I reckon grilled intestines are my favourite offal- gosh they’re great when prepared well! Is offal pretty strictly controlled in the US? Or is it just that the cuts aren’t very popular so they’re not really available for sale?

      @@ChasingaPlate Sheena, what great questions. I am off to my local supermarket now and going to ask my butcher. I wonder if offal is legal to sell in US, or to what extent...don't think brains are allowed either, but maybe some offal is legal and just not sold because of popularity. I see chicken gizzards and livers all the time of course but other organs, stomach, intestines, spleen, lungs...Never. Perhaps I just need to know the right butcher. ;-) I will reply again later today with what I find out. Xoxo

      So it turns out brains and lungs are illegal to sell in the US, but spleen is ok, if you can find it. So that means no authentic haggis in US either because it contains lungs. Other offal like liver, intestines and heart are legal. Fascinating how different countries treat food. Take care, lots of love and appreciation for you both. Thx for enlightening my world!

    Have you tried those pig blood cakes in Asia (you can find them in Taiwan, China, Thailand, Malaysia, Phillipines)? There's also duck and cow blood(Korea). It's been banned in Singapore though for a couple of decades because of infectious concerns (stupid Singapore government!) though I doubt there would be any if handled properly. In hokkien cuisine it is normally served with pig stomach in a clear bowl of soup.

    Dude, they're serving these spleens between 2 pieces of bland raw bread.
    I'd rather slice up a luncheon meat can and soak up some bread under the tab than eat this shit.
    This lard oil infested shit is disgusting.
    At least Greeks offer you cooked bread, better seasoning, a side of vegetables and more balanced cooked oil proportions with their street food...

    • @periodtbabe

      Same with the bruche ice cream. Same with their street pizza.

      Hi
      ΝΩΧΕΛΙΚΙΑ ΓΙΑΠΩΝΕΖΟΥΛΑ, thanks for watching and commenting. It was fascinating getting to eat traditional Sicilian street food. It's food that was borne out of scarcity and poverty- often the way when offal is used. This channel is not really about comparing which street food around the world is better- it's about experiencing it and showing you guys the differences. Greek street food culture and Sicilian street food culture have differing histories and the result of this is just what it is. Some of this food was the best we've eaten all year- including the street pizza. Simple often equates to incredibly good- as there's nowhere to hide-the ingredients have to be of amazing quality to pull it off- sort of like Greek cuisine- everything is so simply seasoned and dressed because the produce doesn't need anymore to make it shine. Anyway, hope you get a chance to try this food one day and perhaps you might change your mind about it. In any case, happy to have you eating vicariously through us via the videos. Cheers, Sheena
