  • It is easy to understand why slow pitch jigging is taking off here in Aus targeting fish like snapper and pearl perch just to name a few.
    Slow jigging is great for fishing for inactive reef type fish and with the right jigs and rod set up you can target almost any species in any depth of water.
    Check out my other slow jigging video off Coffs harbour when we were filming another video. Caught so many snapper and pearl perch it was insane..

    In New Zealand we do slow pitch jigging, but we call fishing lures with skirts , like kabura sliders, tai rubber, baku baku, slow jigging, where the skirt does the work. With slow pitch jigging we try and get the jig horizontal. We use twin hooks at each end.

      Very nice mate, we do have similar here that we call octo jigs. Not sure what people call the technique though. Works pretty well

    Thanks for this overview!
    Am I understanding this correctly: when you crank the reel, say a 1/4 of a turn,

    • @DeanSilvester
      @DeanSilvester  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes mate, just enough to load the rod

  • @jejoko
    @jejoko 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Thank you for the explanation! But don't understand how the jig stays at the bottom or in the strike zone if you are constantly reeling, instead of just pumping the rod.
    I am wanting to try this in fresh water at depths of 20 to 50 feet for stripped bass.

    • @DeanSilvester
      @DeanSilvester  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      you are only moving the lure the smallest amount, once you have done 5-7 revolutions of your reel you would be out of the strike zone and you send it back down. Striped bass would be fun with this technique for sure

  • @Lelots
    @Lelots 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Really just small cranks will do the trick? I've been tiring myself all this time by pumping so hard 😅. I'll this tommorow! Nice vid!

      haha thanks mate, hope you get a few. Yep a 3-4m diver is the best. Just run super thin braid and fairly light leaders to get the depth

    • @joefloyd8807

      @DeanSilvester when you say super light braid, what are you talking here? I have a pe2 rod loaded with 20lb braid and run 16lb leader, rod is rated to max 80g jigs. But struggling to get lone vertical in any sort of current etc. Thanks in advance 👍🏻

    Do you downsize your rod choice for slow jigging in shallower water? Or do you go back to plastics in water in the 40ft to 60ft range?

    • @DeanSilvester
      @DeanSilvester  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey mate, nope don't downsize the rod in different depths only for different line class. Most of the time in up to 70 feet of water i would fish soft plastics for the snapper yes..
