  • After almost 2 months of blooms (thanks to the cooler than norm weather), Grape Hyacinths are going to seeds. Deadhead them to remove the seeds but preserve the foliage, which feed the bulbs underground for next year's growth.

    That is a lot of bending over but they look so clean and neat afterwards. Gosh, I didn’t think much about the seeds. My ex husband weed eated the strip where mine grow. I asked him to try and miss them…he wiped out everything. The seeds probably went everywhere huh! Lol! Thank you!❤

      That must be the quickest to get rid of something! Did they not come back at all?

      They’ll come back. He never listens to me for one thing😉🤣He did it before when he lived here. I didn’t complain because I don’t like using the weed eater, I have a tendency to break things like that! Hopefully they had seed too😁💚
      I did have a question for you I hope you don’t mind. I’m thinking of putting my Devon Cream in the ground. The JM that was there , Ikandi froze this winter. Big bummer, she was over 4’😢 but I’m thinking Devon may like that spot. It gets intermittent full sun but mostly dappled light and some transient shade. What do you think? I’m afraid of burning her. She’s now in a pot and has been outside most of the winter. But she’s still just over a foot tall. Yours is getting so big and it sparked that idea for me lol!Thank you as always!❤️

      @@cindyl3916 My pleasure & honoured too! I have that thought myself! My worry is that it will get bigger than the 10ft x3 ft. That would not be your concern given the vast space you have. These mostly need full sun. As long as it’s getting over 4 hours in a day, I think it would be fine. Mine has had anywhere from 4 to 6 hours depending on where I placed it.
      It has kind of slowed down in its growth. Either it has past its growth spurts or it roots are restricted by the container. I will give it a bigger pot this season and see how much bigger it will get. Then I will revisit and the plant in ground option.
      Yes, they look very nice especially around darker background.
      Best of luck!

      @@cindyl3916 I should mention - our sun is not that strong with our geographic location.

      Ok! After reading this I think that spot would be good then. Thank you💚 I set her pot there a couple days ago to think about it but really had been wanting your opinion first. I’m interested to see how your Devon will respond to the repotting. If the growing remains slow or she takes off again. Great experiment too! It will tell more about her true nature. Maybe the houseplants locked her out during their midnight frig raids so her growth slowed😉🤣you never know 🤨😁❤️

    Why to be careful not to spread the seeds?

    • @GardenNotes
      @GardenNotes  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      Thanks for a good question! Should have clarified that on the video. I started with 1 or 2 bulbs every 8 inches and they have multiplied to a bundle. While I like what I have, I do not want to have them casting seeds further away, hence the comments. If you want more, leaves the seed heads longer, there will be more in future. 😊 Hope you understand what I meant! 🙏🏻

    Thank you. I have mine in pots and want to put summer bedding in the pots. Should I lift & store the muscari bulbs?

    • @GardenNotes
      @GardenNotes  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      I never have these in pots so I have never dug them out. I did plant very close to them with bedding plants. Also I have some in the same spots as other plants since they self seeded. From how they co-exist with others and still being robust the next Spring, hurting them is not an issue. Leaving them in the pot may allow them to send more energy to next year's flowers. One issue that I can think of is the removal of old foliage. They may be disguised by the summer plants? The new growth comes late August will add green background for your plants. Good luck and thanks for your question!

    I didn't cut the leaves, will they bloom this year? Thank you

    • @GardenNotes
      @GardenNotes  ปีที่แล้ว

      Good question. I should have clarified more on the video. This will not impact blooming for the next season. Just to keep the yard tidy and eliminate extra seedlings, if not desired as in my case.

    Really? Then do the same the next day?

    • @GardenNotes
      @GardenNotes  หลายเดือนก่อน

      For the way that I remove only the bloomed out stalks - yes, I cut off whenever they are bloomed out. Over many days. That is only if you have time but you have more color in the yard for longer.
      Imagine most people would take the once & done method. There are folks that leave the seeds to cast too, with them spreading. Whatever that work is the best.
      Thanks for your question!
