  • Over the course of a few days and a few hours, I fished the surf and back bays of beautiful Charleston, South Carolina. Catching a variety of fish species (Bluefish, Shark, Kingfish, & Croaker), I will definitely be back. Loved the culture, food, architecture, and history of this area, not to mention the weather.

I just saw this video or would have commented earlier... I have fished both folly and sunrise park. The rocks off the point at sunrise hold most of the fish I've caught there (never caught a thing on the pier). We have a good bull redfish run every year, starting near the end of September through the month of October (Red October). The reds are chasing the schooling mullet as they head out of the creeks for the cooler months. When the pier was open 6-8 bulls a night was a good night and you would usually catch at least one. If you come to Charleston in September or October again here would be my recommendations. Fish folly beach anywhere from 11th street on up towards 17th street (if the pier is not open). Distance will be your friend, we use drones to run the bait out about 200 or so yards. Use cut mullet and don't discard the head of the mullet, they work best sometimes. Also those bluefish you caught would have been perfect cut bait for shark or reds, they love those oily fish.

Bonnethead, tighten that drag up. It should not be peeling out like that while you’re reeling.

Great video, moving down to the low country from the northeast and was curious what kinds of fish they were catching down there. Kind of surprised to see the blues, always love the fight they give. I'm going to miss the Stripers but the Red Drum seem like a great tradeoff.

I’m sorry to say this… but those josh you referred to as “big white fish” were actually whiting…. They are the most common bite in the surf in the Carolinas.
Anyways I wanted to say I love your videos!!! I am new to the channel and absolutely love it, unfortunately I haven’t been able to fish lately and this has been craving my desires, atleast somewhat :) Thankyou for sharing

First real quick, the first fish was a spot. The second and third was a croaker or better known as a mullet.

What kind of rig was that when you were surf casting, fish-finder? It looked like it had two hooks on a short leader.

I believe it was just a top/bottom rig.

Straight up, unless you time the fishing at the pier by Mt Pleasant, or the burned out bridge by Sullivan's Island... beach and jetty fishing in Charleston sucks. You catch one maybe two good fish, or you hunt sheepshead. But it isn't anything like beach fishing in Alabama or Florida. The fish are usually small for the species too when fishing on the beach. You can find trout early in the morning at Breach Inlet, but that needs ideal water conditions. It isn't like watching Bama guy slay fish after fish. You need a kayak. It past years, the fishing was outstanding. Truly, it isn't worth your time, when there are better fishing conditions in other states.

You should have went to colonial lake downtown. I think that was an otter.

It's a mink. Otters are several times larger.

My guess is that poor shark still has a HOOK in his mouth because of an unethical release. Omg I need to update the forum I started with game commission about this one…
