Slice the root end of the celery off and wrap the bunch tightly in either tinfoil or plastic wrap. The objective is to prevent as much air from reaching it as possible. It will stay crisp for up to 30 days. Bananas wrapped likewise and stored in the fridge last 2 weeks...the skin will turn dark, but the fruit is fine.
I’m shopping my freezer for dinner tonight. I pulled out some frozen falafel balls and we will have them with hummus, eggplant spread, olives and homemade cucumber yogurt sauce. I love unconventional meals.
It's so funny how every one gets so excited in their hauls when they find the items they love and use for a bargain price!🔼New to your channel. Thumbs up coming your way!!!!😀
Oh my goodness how the price of tuna has risen more than your bread! Great throwback video! You should do that with all of your videos. I still make your Sunday gravy! My family loves it.
I went to Shoprite today for the Can-Can sale. I got 10 cans of tuna (also white albacore in water), 10 cans of Progresso Soups, and 16 cans of various vegetables and beans. That's a lot of canned goods for $26.40. Always good to have for emergencies up here in the Pocono Mountains! Our "Low Spend January" is a bit of a bust. My car battery died two days ago, had to get a new one, and it was about $150! But otherwise, we are really only buying food. Hubby is doing well, his leg is much better, and he went back to work today. That bread looks delicious! I love baking bread. Be well. Thanks for another great video!
So happy your husband is doing better!! We love the Poconos! We used to go to the big flea market on Route 209 all the time years back. There was a candy store nearby called the Country Kettle that sold candies in barrels by the pound! My son would go in and have fill a bag!! Great memories!
What a treat I woke up this morning and you were there waiting to be watched. Bread looks great bet it was really tasty with some cheese. We are doing well on our low spend January, but it is helped by being on lockdown in UK and all non essential shops being shut. Have a great weekend, God Bless You both and Dixie Belle as well.
Ugh! I just had a 349.00 vet Bill today! My kitten got sick. She will be fine but.... second half of January- here I come!!! By the way- I have the same clear bowl that you have!! I love it for rising bread. Have a good weekend!
So far so good this month! As an elementary teacher, I usually pick up things here and there for my classroom at target and spend way too much money! This month I decided to ask for some donations of face masks and some baseball cards for a project. I was blown away by how generous some people were who really wanted to help out! The bread looks delicious!!
I started making the bread before I even finished watching the video! There is something so satisfying about making your own bread. Thank you Emmy and Paul.
This is 2024 and I just tried making this bread. It was amazing!! I couldn't believe it! Thank you so much for sharing! I never thought I would actually make bread with yeast. Everyone says it's so hard. This video gave me the confidence to try it for myself. I'm glad I did.
We've had Discovery + since it first came out and we LOVE it! There are thousands of shows to watch! We watch cooking shows, investigation shows , documentaries, world travel, historically set movies...we won't live long enough to watch everything but we're trying!
I’m going to try this Amish bread recipe. I’m 68 yo and have never made a successful loaf of bread although I’m a very good cook. I liked the way you rolled the dough up and the fact that I don’t have to kneed it. I’ll let you know how it turns out. Thx! Debi in Vicksburg, MS. 🥰🥰
I missed you! I thought you would be on Monday night! The bread looks delicious. What a great job! Thanks for the celery tip also. Sometimes with celery, I precook it if it is going limp and freeze it for stews and such. Hope you and Paul are doing well.
Definitely I need to bake my own bread more often. I used to do it a lot then got out of the habit but it always is worth the time as it comes out as good or better than store bakery bread. I have a great Italian bread recipe I should make soon. It is soooooo yummy. My cell phone plan gives me access to HBO Max for no additional charge. It’s great! I am so grateful for that.
Oh, that bread, wow......I have that same kitchen scale and use it all the time.....love the bloopers....go Paul for catching the 30 seconds! Another great video.....
Really enjoyed this video. Thank you for sharing your shopping haul & bread recipe with us. Have a wonderful weekend. God bless you, Paul & Dixie Belle.❤
Love the video! Picked up the coffee and tuna last night! What a great deal. Love the bread, not into the sweet bread either, but love Amish food! Thanks again, always fun, stay safe! Until next time. After January, looking to take a ride out to Amish country, love how peaceful it is.
I'm sorry, did you use active, rapid, or instant yeast? Are any of them the same? Yeast use to be yeast, now there a few kinds! Sorry if I missed you telling us!
Amazing deals in your haul. The bread looks delicious! I always like to have brownie mix in case I need to bring something somewhere. My favorite way to fancy them up is to sprinkle chocolate chips on top when I take them from the oven.. Once they melt I spread the chocolate around and sprinkle with unsweetened flake coconut. So delicious and looks so decadent.
You did great on your groceries! I spent around 44.00 on groceries, but also needed to buy a large bag of dog food that cost around 25.00. Thats been it for us. We have been staying at home too and working on the decluttering. The bread looked wonderful too!
Hi Emmy and Paul, my non spend month is going fine, I'm also eating out of some of my pantry store and freezer so I have spent very little so far. I haven't filled the car up with fuel since before Christmas as we are in lockdown again and supposed to stay in and Im still crafting out of my stash. Doing this makes me realise I do spend a bit on mindless shopping, it isn't a great amount in the big scheme of things but can add up, especially if like me you only get a small pension. Congrats on the bread making, I love seeing all your recipes and have tried a few out. Keep safe and healthy, Janex
I made a small loaf today of the bread. Half the recipe to see how it would turn out. It wasn't rising; then my husband put it next to the stove while I was baking dinner. It started to rise and then we baked it. A very nice first loaf of bread.
So far so good on our "no spend January"! I have only bought groceries (that I already had budgeted in) and am happy to report that I have come under budget on that. I too have been buying the English cucumbers instead of the regular ones. The regular ones had been bitter and don't last. Nice job on the bread! Wow! Didn't know that trick with celery!!! Thanks! Stay safe and God bless
So far this month I have only bought 2x4pints bottles of milk ,and made 2loaves of white bread 🙂🙂 I keep my celery in a tall glass with water about 2", put the celery in the fridge door stays firm for ages. I also save my butter wrappers to grease baking trays etc also th wipe onto of fresh loaves.
The bread turned out beautifully. I’m with you on not liking sandwich bread to be sweet. Great deal on the albacore (I agree on that, too). Thanks for another great vlog, Emmy and Paul.
Hi Emma and Paul We call the cucumber 'continental '. Nice to hear your voice as I baby sit my sister's home. Magic day enjoying the bright summer day on an island and the house just 500 metres from the ocean 😂 sorry about that. My sister's dog went looking for Dixie when she barked. He was disappointed not finding a playmate. Cheers
Great video, tons of tips and the bread looks great. Thank you for creating valuable content for us. I haven't been here in a while and missed you! God bless you both.
Woohoo!!! Let's go Buffalo!! Was that Paul I heard yelling last night lol!!!! Would love to see a video on some frugal food ball snacks!!! Come on Clevland we want another home game!!!
YAY!!! Yup it was him!! LOL! Here is a fun video I did in the very beginning of my channel on Game Day food. I'll link it in case you missed it Kelly th-cam.com/video/ygVIO9Osnpk/w-d-xo.html
Hi Emmy and Paul. So far I’ve only spent $11.00 this month. (Not including normal utility bills). Going to make this bread today. Thanks for all you do.
Happy New Year Emmy and Paul! I’ve been re-watching your videos from last year. I wanted to tell you that I made this bread today and it came out BEAUTIFUL!! This was my first time making a yeast bread (because I was so afraid of yeast) lol. I am so proud of these loaves. I am also joining in on the no spend/low spend challenge. It could be fun 🤩
No, unfortunately 😔 I wish were long time friends though 😁 You are so fun to watch and such an inspiration to all! Thank you for all your tips and tricks and making everyone smile
Hubby wants white bread next week for his school lunch. He can't eat the perfectly good whole wheat bread that we got on bogo lady week and week before. This bread looks Perfect for him!
Wow, I learn so much from watching your content. I will definitely use the recrossing method for celery and appreciate the bread recipe. I can’t bake bread or I’ll eat it all in one sitting, LOL, but maybe I’ll make that recipe if I know guests are coming over.
Useful and fun video! Your bread looks great. I have made bread twice this month and I am new at it. I used your refrigerator dough recipe. I will try the Amish one tomorrow. Simple pleasures-you bring us joy, Emmy and Paul!
I’m doing great on low spend January which has turned into a no spend. I have a calendar (that I got for free from our township) and I’m highlighting all the days of the month. The days I spend no money are highlighted in yellow and the days I spend money are high lighted in pink. On the days I spend money I write in the calendar square where I spent the money and how much I spent. That way it’s very visible to me. Just a thought I wanted to share with you and others. Take care
You always find the best bargains! Major score on the tuna! [I'm like you...I don't care for the chunk light, either...too "squishy", lol!] And that bread...oh, the humanity...I have to stay gluten free, so this is the stuff my dreams are made of, lol!
Hi emmy and Paul and dixi Glad all is OK with you Lovely vlog I'm thinking of making some bread this afternoon I usually use my breadmaker but I will use the oven Take care xx
The bread looks delicious. I think you could cut back the yeast because that is a lot of yeast for such a small amount of flour... Just a suggestion. I like seeing how others save money.
That bread is amazing! But I don't have a standup mixer......can you use an electric hand mixer? Thank you for all you and Paul do, we love you and appreciate you guys taking the time to help everybody with all kinds of things. There is something for everyone.
That is so kind of you to say! Thank you! You would need a dough hook attachment on your hand blender for it work. You can't use beaters. You can always knead it by hand too!
@@FrugalMoneySaver after much searching for a dough hook for my kitchenaid hand mixer, no luck. I will be using my ninja dough attachment instead. Can't wait to try the bread, I have been telling hubby to expect it.

Wrap the regular cucumbers in silver foil. I cut on 1/2 and wrap the 1/2 for another day.
I’m shopping my freezer for dinner tonight. I pulled out some frozen falafel balls and we will have them with hummus, eggplant spread, olives and homemade cucumber yogurt sauce.
I love unconventional meals.

@@FrugalMoneySaver , may I ask when you mention proofing after the warm water , yeast and sugar, how long do you wait before adding the oil?
salt doesn't kill yeast except in large amounts...its meant to slow it down for a good rise and flavor! love your videos.

My mom used to keep celery in a quart jar in the refrigerator. It was always crisp. I had forgotten about that
Makes sense Granny! Thanks!
Great deals on the haul! I printed out the bread recipe. It looks like something even I could make.
Of course you could Geri! I wouldn't use the whole 2/3 cup sugar the original recipe calls for...makes it super sweet for a sandwich bread!
I love all your videos they make my day!
You are so kind Jessica! Thank you!
I just made the bread. It is delicious. Thanks for the recipe. Love the videos.

Yes it was a good stock up week lol!
Love your video
Jill thank you so very much!
Take the bottom of the celery you cut off and put in water and grow another celery on your window sill (no waste)
Brenda great tip!! Thanks!
