    I like the idea of the remineralization. We've found that RO water makes more thirsty. That's subjective, I know, but it sure seemed that way. Maybe this would help. We're really interested in a filtration system that will eliminate heavy metals, forever plastics, VOCs, and so on.
    However, I do not like things depend on "apps", and especially that depend on "smart"phones. I prefer no electronics at all, since those are far and away the least reliable part of consumer products, but at least I would want the thing to be self contained with it's own control panel and display device. I also do not like things that run on batteries. Those also go bad and are an extra expense. There's always power somewhere nearby. Let me make the decision of how to provide it. An RO system is powered by the supply water pressure, so the electronics must be what require the electrical power. It should (if well designed) be able to continue to work without power.

    • @debluetailfly
      @debluetailfly 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      Everything MUST be self contained for me to even consider it. I do NOT use a 'smart' phone!! If I have to have a 'smart' phone to use something, that product is automatically eliminated. Batteries are a pain to keep up with. Might be ok to have for emergency use, but not for normal use.
      Another trend I have noticed is that many electrical devices only include a UBS cable, NOT a cord to plug into an outlet!!! Do they think I have UBS ports all over the place??!!??

  • @Sylvan_dB
    @Sylvan_dB 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +9

    Nope. Battery?!? No way.
    It's easy to upgrade the $200 units for better efficiency, greater output, etc. or start higher on the generic RO foodchain. The filters are MUCH less expensive for the "generic" units. Get in for $200 if you want to try it out. Do you like it? Add booster pump (unless you already have over 70psi water pressure) and gain some efficiency. Add second RO housing and membrane for staged concentrate and nearly double the permeate:concentrate ratio for a very slight decrease in permeate quality. Etc.

    I think home distillation is better overall for people that just want pure clean wtaer for drinking/cooking....you dont have to worry about replacing/using 4 or 5 filters...you dont waste as much water in the purification process and it is much simpler method to clean water.

    • @waterfilterguru
      @waterfilterguru  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +11

      While distillation is indeed one of the best methods for purifying water, you didn't mention the biggest drawback that it takes massive time and energy inputs to distill a relatively small volume of water. 6-8 hours for just one gallon.

    • @davehimlin2374
      @davehimlin2374 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      @@waterfilterguru many units can distill water at 1 liter per hour. ..even the inexpensive tabletop units.

    • @InvisibleCitizen
      @InvisibleCitizen 2 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      In a prolonged SHTF scenario I absolutely do NOT like having to locate and buy filters that may be extinct! Learn to build you own drinkable water system that only requires natural local ingredients! However buying and storing a mega supply of purification chemistry would be prudent. Distillation using natural dead wood trees and our coal is a decent mode also!

    • @MrHitthespot
      @MrHitthespot หลายเดือนก่อน +2

      Distilled water typically contains less salt and metal than its source water. Organic compounds or metals with a high vapor pressure (e.g., mercury) will be in the vapor over boiling water and will get condensed back into the distilled water. Not Effective Against: most volatile and semi-volatile organic compounds, and some bacteria. Distilling water is no where near as good as filtration, especially carbon and RO.

    I bought this system to replace an aging system I bought well over 10 years ago. It was a great system and I would have bought it again, but the price had doubled to over 2000 dollars. At 600 dollars the Cloud system seemed like a great buy, and the reviews were good. Here is my assessment. It is a compact design and should fit under most sinks easily. It was easy to install with everything included. The filters will be much easier to replace than my old system. This system places the minerals back in the water which my old system didn't do. The recovery rate is very good although the tank size is half my old system. I measured the PPM (parts per million) of solids in the water before and after with my own meter. City water was 147ppm and the filtered water was 24ppm after the minerals were introduced. This is very good performance from the filter. Now for the ugly. I can't seem to get the faucet tight enough to not start spinning in a couple days. Still experimenting. The Water pressure needs improvement. My old system had 3 times the pressure, using the city water pressure for pressure. It was a two hose system. Not sure how it worked, but my old system worked well. The pressure in my old system was just as high as the city faucet. Now having complained about the last two caveats, I like the system, it seems very well thought out and we only use the water for drinking and cooking and the pressure is actually ok for that. We are just spoiled from the old system. I should also mention that the customer service was very good. I had a number of questions and customer service was very fast at answering my emails.

    Ugh I really want to get Cloud RO, but $200USD with exchange rate to Canada ($271CAD) for a single year of filters seems SUPER costly. Plus I would be hit with customs too which would be between $40 and $50. Home Depot sells 2 years of cartridges for the Aquatru at $200CAD (not mineral boost though 😢).

So they do have good customer support. I went ahead and ordered this unit. I have a really good quality Culligan RO system and have been happy with the quality of the water but it's $400 to replace the cartridges and pain to do under the sink - this cloud unit looks much more DYI-friendly as far as changing the filters that was the selling point for me -however, I wish they would go into a little more detail about what all toxins are taken out and what sets their unit apart regarding toxin removal. Their unit does have some unique features but at the end of the day the only reason anyone even researches or wants an RO system is to have the best water quality - all the other features as far as ease of changing cartridges -app etc are just icing on the cake - but toxin removal is the cake,
