    Big thanks to @peterasp1968 for suggesting this remarkable warbird.

      Sorry Mike. I really did try to use my own voice, and despite its very broad accent, that i really can't stand to listen to, the main issue i had was my constant flubbing of the script. I mean, in half a day I managed half a page of a 4 page script. I just don't have that time spare. Besides I really love the BBC voice of the AI from eleven labs. even if it costs $99 / month. 100% worth it for the result IMO. But i appreciate the effort you gave for some genuine feedback. Cheers. BTW how cool is the D.520? :-)

    I think I recall Eric Winkle Brown saying "it was a nasty little beast to fly"..

    • @Aircraft_Files
      @Aircraft_Files  2 หลายเดือนก่อน +5

      I read the same. He said he couldent relax on the controls, even when you think you can let it taxi.

    The flight characteristics always made the Dewoitine interesting. Capt Eric “Winkle” Brown Commander of the Royal Aircraft Establishment Captured Enemy Aircraft Flight said of the Dewoitine D.520 “It was a nasty little brute. Looked beautiful but didn’t fly beautifully. Once you get it on the ground, I was told not to leave the controls until it was in the hangar and the engine stopped. You could be taxiing toward the hangar and sit back when suddenly it would go in a right angle.”

    A fair and good review! The French aircraft industry in the 1930’s indeed suffered from government intervention and political polarization, as well as lack of adequate engines. In comparison, during the First World War the French aircraft industry produced competitive planes like the Nieuport and SPAD, used by American pilots. The Rhone engines were also fine.

    With the cockpit that far back, ground taxi must have been a real pain. Probably had to use spotters on the wing tips.

    from montoglifier brothers balloon to bleriot's monoplane and much more, the french really do have a huge place in aviation history. This plane would have continued development and would have been as good as spitfire and bf109.

    Thank you for covering this aircraft.
    It is often relegated to the back-pages of aeronautical history.
    Their use by the Italians & Bulgarians is an interesting bit of obscure history.

    How crazy the French pilots could just switch sides like that!!

    • @Aircraft_Files

      To be fair, it was just a puppet government. Led by Marshal Philippe Pétain, it governed the unoccupied "Free Zone" of southern France and French colonial territories from the town of Vichy. The regime collaborated with Nazi Germany, enforcing anti-Semitic laws and aiding in the deportation of Jews. It maintained nominal sovereignty but was heavily influenced and controlled by the Germans.

    WHAAA? The only aircraft taking on the Bf 109E??? Where is this information coming from? The script writer needs to pick up a history book, as the D.20's were being preyed upon by 109D's during 1940.
    Edit: the 109E's became operational just before the BoB. This video has the look of..........revisionist history.
