It's not as simple and easy as people might try to say. You have to be educated on how these things work. Even something as simple as installing new brake pads can be effed up by putting them on backwards, for instance.

I wouldn't. Most of the time they don't even add a gasket to the engine (Which currently I'm without due to thinking I'm getting a cheap price on repairs) But they make sure you keep coming back. Never will I trust a street mechanic, these are dirty filthy mechanics (South Africa, Cape Town)

Good job! Although you can find people all over the US doing this, too. I have removed engines with no hoist and minimal tools in junkyards. And a little 3 cyl. like that, I have changed without a hoist at home, even though I have one here. A geo metro 3 cyl hardly justifies messing with a hoist. People who don't fix their own cars have little idea how much work people do to keep their junk going. I am in PA...if this is needed in January, that I when I do it. Outside. And never with any help. It gets old.
Yes, the outdoor mechanic suffers miserably during the cold months. To some extent, your body acclimates to the cold, but there's pain and suffering still.
Just so everyone is aware that is an all aluminum engine. Thats why he can pick it up like that. Suzuki had a few cars here in America that did too. The motors weigh about 200 pounds or less. I worked at a junk yard in Missouri and a guy came in and bought two of those motors and I carried one in each hand out to him. They're very light.
@@magnusb879the material is different. Aluminum lighter weaker and doesn't hold as much heat. Iron a bit stronger way more heavy and holds heat more. Horsepower comes from tuning not material.
Ppl lift car engines without chain horse or hydraulic engine remover. My pop's used to lift engines out of cars when I was younger without either one with the heads an other stuff broken down off of engine I've seen it done before.💯.
At least it looks sunny, warm and dry and they have multiple guys out there working. I've worked at night under a car in the freezing cold while it was snowing on my legs, alone, or lying in freezing cold water, or working completely blind in tbe dark at night by feel. Or surrounded by stuff and cars having squeeze to between things or climb over them.

How my friends+i worked on the $700/$800 1960's muscle cars we bought in the late 1970's w/cheap pawn shop+garage sales tools!! We used a tree trunk as engine hoist in the back yard. We still have those cars+tools.
With crap ass tools and cesspool conditions (did you see the condition of the street and surrounding infrastructure)they worked on and changed out a engine! This is why I love America 🇺🇸 Bless this country!! You couldn’t pay me to live in those conditions

Haha i remember pulling the engine out of an old subaru with a basic toolkit, 2x4, & a broken seatbelt to strap the engine to the 2x4. Grabbed a buddy when it was ready to pop out & got the "new" engine in, in about an hour. I love working on old cars.
I wish I knew about engines. I'm starting to learn a little bit. I have just bought a Mercedes m111.970 diesel 2.3L van (MB100D). It is tuned for fuel efficiency and reliability. But that's about all I know. I don't want to modify it, I just want it to run as long as possible. It's a 2001 model but has only done 200,000 kms.
In NY city in the early 80s I seen one crackhead guy in the mud by the stadium strip down a car to a bear shell and walked away with all the parts he picked up the engine and tranny and put it in a shopping cart within 45 minutes. The car was nothing but a shell.
Used to offroad in Suzuki SJ's and Samurais. Done this a few times myself - could lift an entire engine single handed. Same with the gearbox and transfer case. Then I got a Nissan Patrol, and I couldn't lift anything on my own anymore! Needed an extra pair of hands just to put a new clutch in...
As a mechanic. This is great, cheap mechanics. Uses RTV for some gaskets. Like, it ran ok at the end. It would run. They need'a get some intake gaskets so it's not so sluggish.

Small 4 or 3 cylinder engines can be lifted by hand yes. Try lifting a straight 6 or v8 with your bare hands and see how it goes.

Obviously you don't work on cars. When you remove parts of the cooling system, air gets in. Has to go somewhere, bled through the radiator fill.
