If you want to enjoy Indian railways you should plan your schedules. Book your tickets in Advance .
For urgent travel there is a Tatkal window ( booking 24 hr earlier ) where you can buy a ticket for which you have to pay some extra money . And there are open tickets available in all railways stations but getting a seat in an unreserved compartment is not Guaranteed. Indian railways have a good Pantry in long distance trains and food is not costly . Indian railways have their own drinking water plant which supplies bottled water (rail neer ) @ ₹15 liter available in all railways stations and pantries. Indian railways is an independent body where they have their own Railway court , Railway police, Indian railways have a free hand to decide on development. Indian railways are best . And now since you like the railways and its modernisation so much I thought I would share this with you .. Modi ji's most ambitious rail project . The Bhanupali - Manali - Leh Railway line . Expected to cost north of One lakh Crore this is a railway line every expert worth his salt has said cannot be built. Because of the terrain involved and the heights, It crosses some of the highest mountain passes in the world and will be the highest railway line in the world ( 17582 ft ) when completed beating China's Trans Tibetan Plateau rail line. It will have pressurised coaches ( Like modern aircraft ) because there will be oxygen scarcity at those heights. Out of a total length of 489 Kms fully 257 Kms or 55 % of the entire length will be inside tunnels . And when finished I can only imagine the spectacular views outside its train windows of the mighty Himalayan range.

@@ReactionRhythms Well currently the survey work for the line has been completed and almost 11 kms in the plains of Punjab from Bhanupali has been built . Land acquisition along the rest of the route is apparently underway.
