Sir this is all I needed to understand inverse function. As an English speaker, I'm studying maths in Chinese and you just saved my life. Your students are so lucky to have you. You're the best man!
I absolutely agree. Cancelling out is not a mathematical term nor should it be used when describing the process of a number being added to it's multiplicative inverse or multiplied by it's multiplicative inverse. I sometimes fall victim to using the term but always try to explain like you do during lecture. Thank you for noticing and writing to me about it because I agree with you
I am currently using webassign for my college algebra, and your explanation is 10x better than the random people that "try" to explain how to do these.
Man those students are super disrespectful for talking while hes teaching🙄 They should be grateful they have a teacher that actually teaches while some of us WISH our teacher actually taught well🤦🏻♀️ Great video btw thank you so much
Cross multiplication is only helpful when you understand why it works, I do teach it, but with caution till my students understand the inverse operations. Otherwise it is very often incorrectly applied
I don't like when teachers use the term 'cancel out' it doesn't describe what you are doing. When I help a fellow student, I always explain to them how (eg) 10/2 equals 5. If I want to get 5 (or 10/2) to equal 10 again, I must multiply by 2. Therefore 'getting rid of' the 2 in the denominator of the fraction 10/2
Whenever I don't understand my teacher I come here with him because I know that I'll understand him(my teacher is really good "nerd", but sometimes I cannot understand him) :)
well if you look at the graph of a function and it's inverse you will see that all the point (x,y) of a functions are swapped (y,x) for the inverse graph
why are people talking over this dude? i would love to have a teacher like this :/
same
ty. like how u teach and shut the students up at the same damn time
haha, just try to do my best
Ty so much, last minute studying for test
hope you did well
same lol
I've been scratching my head for a whole day just by trying to understand my math homework, this video really helped me. Thanks good sir

happy to be there for you
Thank you please feel free to ask any questions, I will try my best to answer
My “y” has a 2 beside it how do I do this because right know I have 8x-6=2y
no prob!
i didnt understand the F in F(f*-1(x)) =x
Man those students are super disrespectful for talking while hes teaching🙄 They should be grateful they have a teacher that actually teaches while some of us WISH our teacher actually taught well🤦🏻♀️ Great video btw thank you so much
Smalls :D htl shorty
lol he missed the mustang news :c
Dang! haha
What if the 5 was the numerator and x-1 was the denomenator. Would you multiply by (1/5) to get rid of the 5?
@DevPosley awesome, let me know how I can help you further!
please do and let me know what videos you would like to see that you don't see on my channel
I know right? I goal is to create enough videos to supplement all the long boring instruction out there. It can just be killer here in math class.
Just wanted to thank you so much for this! currently doing college algebra and I can't tell you how difficult textbooks make it seem.
You are so welcome!
I'm taking an honors functions class and it's ridiculous.
I'm going to watch your videos for help. Thanks!
Thanks Mr. McLogan, the book was confusing!!! This helped
YES! We're working on this now. I was hoping you had a video up with this information! Brian Strikes Again!
haha yea, we are the mustangs over here as well
You just make it very simple.... Thanks a lot...
+Lykz jr Maf you are very welcome! happy to help
Hi Bryan! What happens when for example, the x-1 is x-2? How would you go along multiplying both sides?
same process, multiply by x-2 on both sides
I learned a lot because of the explanations I understood so well thank you so much sir Brian Mclogan
So what other methods can I use apart from canciling out the variables
How do you work the problem with something like x-5 on the bottom?
You flip both sides of the equation. I’m a little late, but I hope this helps.
Very well explained
how / where do you get the +1 ?
Distributive property ACROSS the equal sign, so 5x=y-1 becomes 5x+1=y
@ctwall18 i don't know what that means
thank u so much sir my teacher went through it so fast and I’ve been stuck on this forever ❤️
Instead of multiply and divide (2:10) that generate questions from students, just do cross multiply and all confusions are kicked out of classroom.
Cross multiplication is only helpful when you understand why it works, I do teach it, but with caution till my students understand the inverse operations. Otherwise it is very often incorrectly applied
Thank you this is helping on my math quiz tomorrow!!
you are very welcome James! Best of luck
Hello, how do you solve it if the denominator is 4x for instance? Like this: f(x)=x+1/4x.
I don't like when teachers use the term 'cancel out' it doesn't describe what you are doing. When I help a fellow student, I always explain to them how (eg) 10/2 equals 5. If I want to get 5 (or 10/2) to equal 10 again, I must multiply by 2. Therefore 'getting rid of' the 2 in the denominator of the fraction 10/2
no you will need to get the x off of the denominator
you look really young in comparison to the newer vids, haah. Thanks man!
haha I was
Thanks really helpful
thank you so much! I was struggling to understand this and now I do
Whenever I don't understand my teacher I come here with him because I know that I'll understand him(my teacher is really good "nerd", but sometimes I cannot understand him) :)
I'm struggling to understand how 5 got cancelled out in "5x=y-1" just by adding 1, how does it work?
9 years ago. and this mans almost has 1m subs. nice 👌🏻
Wish he was my teacher. He makes it soo much simple
happy to be able to help!
Brian McLogan how would it be if their is a number in the x-1
what do you mean?
Brian McLogan the beginning of the problem. When their is a number with the x.
Seems just like an overcomplicated way of doing more confusing algebra. Great teaching understood it more in 5 mins than 1 week at university.
cheers!
Thank you! This is way more helpful than Zybooks!
@mrchristophercelaya thank you!
Thank you soooo much for these videos!!
You are helping me tremendously. 😁
I hope you were my home tutor
This was so helpful thanks so much
THANK U SO MUCH🫶🏻😭😭😭
Thank you for your share! It's very helpful for me!
you are very welcome!
Thank you so much !!!
why did u transpose 5x without changing the sign?
Because you were multiplying a positive number
Thanks man
why did u add 1? on the first sum
Thank you so much! ✨
Very welcome!
what grade are u teaching in this vid?
1:38 yeah i can see why she was confused tho, wrote alot of unnecessary stuff
Thanks alot man I needed that help
The intercom was so nostalgic aaaah
what if there is a variable in the denominator ex)(1/x)+4
styll
Thank you for this ! ! ! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
You are very welcome!
thank you for this!!!! :D
They really want you to turn on the TV LOL
Is this bvn???
Y did u add 1 for the equation 5x=y-1
to solve for y
You're a beast thanks bruh
............
Y are u such a help
I use this to solve my homework 😂😂
happy to help
Thanks teacher 😙
maybe i shouldnt say this but if i were in his class i'd have a fat crush on him
You are so amazing
what if f(x)=3-x/4?
can anybody help me with this one: f(x) = (x² - 1) / 2x
I'm stuck at this point : y = -1 / (2x -y)
thanks in advance
So therefore...
I don’t understand why you switched the x and the y at the beginning
well if you look at the graph of a function and it's inverse you will see that all the point (x,y) of a functions are swapped (y,x) for the inverse graph
I’m still a little lost.. :(
Suscribed 👊
cheers! happy to have you William
BE MY TEACHER PLSSSSSSS
I am just online!
thank you for this video and omg I died when the girl said why lol
haha
👍
legit
no need for this lengthy video
