We were in the Dolomites in July too and the weather was crazy. We also did the stelvio pass in a bloody campervan!! Terrifying. Note for future reference: wild camping is illegal in the whole of Italy.
Hi Emma, yeah but what a place (Dolomites). I love those roads, Izzy's not as keen particularly in the truck, but more because we're slow and hold everyone up. We're aware it's illegal across Italy, but as with most countries where it's illegal, there is an element of tolerance, if you're away from the coast or National parks. In over five years of full-timing, we've only been asked to move on three times (2 of those were in the Dolomites this year). Sadly we get the historic rationale behind it and like to think we're responsible campers, usually tucked away & exercising the "leave no trace" mantra. Cheers, P&I 🙏😀
Hi Amanda, the weathers come good, just a light shower here and there but above 2000m it's gonna be changeable. The scenery here is (as you say) Epic, hopefully we can show you a little more of the real Dolomites next week. Hope you're settling in 🤞🙏😀
Nicely captures how beautiful the Dolomites are, but also how you need to take the weather as you find it. It’s a big advantage having a van / truck as you can move when the weather turns : much better than a hotel. Also you need to throw away the orange in your fruit bowl….
Well thanks again to both you guys for another great enjoyable video ,strange the police shifting you in the middle of nowhere I'm sitting here in france eating a bit baguette and cheese then you guys sat down for that great looking scran oh well till next one take Fiona and Gordon fae bonnie Scotland
Hi both, thank you. I know, they're pretty hot on where you can & can't park, shame as it was a great little spot. Anyway, hard to beat a good baguette... I hope all the troubles subsided near you. Enjoy the rest of your holiday. 🍷😀
Hi John, good to hear from you, and thank you. It happens, but thankfully our second week really allowed us to get out and explore, so pleased we hung around (video will be out Sunday) 🙏😀
Scenery looks amazing, shame about the weather for you. I didn't know that you could use the cable cars out of ski season, at least you got to soak in some of the views.😀
Hi Michael, it really is a hive of activity here and thankfully our second week here was pretty good and we certainly made the most of it (video will be published Sunday evening). Thanks again 🙏😀
Great video as ever and interesting to see the area without the winter snow. We visited Ritten a few years ago (to watch Nottingham Panthers ice hockey team win the Continental Cup!) and was blown away by the beauty of the snow covered scenery. Interesting as well meeting German speaking Italians!
Oh no poor you! That was a lot of sh**tty weather! I’m happy you got to see at least a little bit! It is so stunning. One of my favourite mountain chains, despite the very unstable weather (we also had once really bad weather for the whole week in August!)
Hey thanks, thankfully the weather came good for us and we really maximized our second week, it was stunning... our next video will be published tomorrow evening. But yes, very changeable weather there. 🙏😀
If I'm not mistaken, much of the Dolomites is a national park and I don't think you are allowed to do what you do (like you can otherwise in Italy). I know in nearby Slovenia if you are caught in the national park like that you can get a ticket up to 2000 EUR, but not less than 300 EUR per person. This is before they tell you to move on. Dolomites might not be far off, so be careful
Hi and thank you, yes it is national park/UNESCO site. however there are a few places in the mountains you can camp off grid without issue. There's no tolerance within the towns or prominant locations but if you're discreet you'll get away with it. Slovenia - yes we're aware it's difficult there, in fact we've changed our plans and have decided to leave Slovenia for a motorcycle tour, it'll be quicker and easier to navigate the mountain roads/tunnels than our little truck. 🙏😀
You wait until next week , you will be sweating because its to hot ! 35 Degrees + forecast for Croatia. Its, interesting how different mountain ranges are , different shapes and colours, I suppose a clue to the weather was how green it was up there, Thanks for sharing keep up the good work. Great content.
Thank you, appreciated. Not too bad, but yes coming down is always worse than going up (25 years in the army running about like a lunatic with weight doesn’t help) 🙏😀
Again a great video, drone footage looked excellent (got quit a technic there Phil ;) ). Too bad the wheather was not favourable, but once the clouds are gone the mountains are
Cheers Pascal, appreciated. Yeah the drone definitely brings scale to the story. Thankfully the weathers come good and yep, it's absolutely blown us away. 🙏😀
Looks a fantastic place despite the weather. However in the mountains the weather always wins! It is amazing how the mountain resorts are so geared up for all activities. The UK could learn a lot from their approach cheers Dave
Hi Dave, totally... above 2000m the weather's calling the shots. I love the outdoor scene and I have genuinely never seen so much on offer in such a concentrated area, I feel the UK is coming last in so many area's. 🙏😀
Hi, new subscriber to you, I’ve just got back from Canazei last Sunday after skiing, it’s great to see the area in the summer, I had lunch at the same hutte you did, wonderful views throughout the area, I’ve also had coffee at the hutte you walked past, did you get to see the WW1 guns just above it? Need to spend some time catching up on your blogs 😊
Hi and thank you, such a gorgeous spot and somewhere we said we'll return to, just love the Dolomites full stop. I bet that hut location was a picture in the snow, I missed the guns, I did read the various WW1 stone monuments and just felt in awe of the men that fought in such harsh conditions. Hope you had a great time 🙏😀
@@TheGapDecaders quick question for you, where do I find your info on a spouse travelling with spouse over the 90 limit please, I’m UK my wife has Irish, thanks
Well shot and narrated! Thanks for sharing!
thank you 😀

Scenery overload! I wonder if the weather is always like that ? But ….. that mountain scenery after the cable car - absolutely epic

Brilliant watch as always guys. Lots of interesting stuff - thanks! Sorry you had 💩 weather but at least you had Tonka to get you through 👍.

Did not know Where the Dolomites where before this. Thanks for sharing this cool region.👍🏕🏞⛰

My pleasure, it's a must see place if you're ever in this part of the world.
I know 🌨🌨 🙏😀

Nicely put together 👍🏻 shame about the weather and getting the knock at 07:00. Got to love a ferry ride ⛴️ looking forward to next week.
Hi guys, thank you. Hope you’re well and not sweltering too much 🙏😀

Thank you, I didn’t even realise Ice hockey was a big thing there, and yes German-speaking Italians seems wrong, a truly spectacular place 🙏😀

thank you so much, I know, then we'll be complaining 😁, yep it's already come good and suddenly, it's a different place. 👍🏻😀
Another 'Bucket List' item! I love your camera work and commentary. BTW, how are your knees after that decent at the beginning of your clip.
Thank you, appreciated. Not too bad, but yes coming down is always worse than going up (25 years in the army running about like a lunatic with weight doesn’t help) 🙏😀
