- Exclusive Interview with Irish Tenor, Celtic Thunder's Emmet Cahill as he joins awa-winning television, radio, multimedia personality, host, presenter, journalist, entertainer and content creator Jim Masters on this episode of The Jim Masters Show Live entertainment, Lifestyle, celebrity talk show series. Emmet hails from Mullingar in County Westmeath in Ireland. His musical journey began with a piano lesson when he was just 5 years old. By the time he turned 7 Emmet had begun to have his voice professionally trained and he later went on to win a music scholarship for high school in Mullingar. Emmet spent the next 5 years intensively studying and playing music. At school he furthered his studies in piano, organ, violin and vocal training, but singing was always his true choice. He continued his education at the prestigious Royal Irish Academy of Music where he received a university degree in Music Performance.
Emmet has been cast in many stage productions and has performed on stage at the Gaiety Theatre, Dublin and as a soloist at the National Concert Hall. He is an avid sports fan and has twice sung the Irish national anthem at Croke Park Stadium in Dublin in front of crowds of 90,000. Emmet has also performed for the former President of Ireland Mary McAleese and has sung at several international rugby games in Dublin’s new Aviva Stadium.
2010 proved to be a very exciting year for Emmet Cahill. He was awarded The John McCormack Bursary for the most Promising Young Tenor, was named the most promising young singer at the Royal Irish Academy of Music, was a multiple prizewinner at the National Feis Ceoil singing competition in Ireland and was approached by Celtic Thunder producer Sharon Browne and invited to join the show. He recorded and toured with Celtic Thunder from 2011 to 2014.
Emmet started his Celtic Thunder journey on the Heritage tour with his rendition of an original song Kindred Spirits that Phil Coulter had written especially for him. The baritone of Celtic Thunder shows, Emmett performed belting solo numbers showcasing the richness of his voice. During his time with Celtic Thunder Emmet recorded the Voyage and Mythology CDs and Public TV specials as well as the Heritage and Holiday Symphony CDs. In Mythology Emmet performed the inspirational love song Always There, the haunting Irish ballad Isle of Inisfree and a uniquely beautiful version of the all-time favorite Danny Boy.
While Emmet has carved out his own unique identity as a solo artist over the past number of years, he is still an integral member or Celtic Thunder and continues to tour with the show. Emmet was also on the 2017 Celtic Thunder Cruise followed by the 2017 Symphony Tour of North America.
In addition to his role with Celtic Thunder, Emmet released his eagerly anticipated debut solo album “Emmet Cahill’s Ireland” which released February 2017. During his professional career to date, Emmet has immersed in a variety of distinct musical genres, awakening his passion for Irish music as well as other styles. Indeed the Irish Music Association named him “Tenor Of The Year” in 2013. Celtic Thunder are back with their new album Odyssey, a stunning collection of songs showcasing their incredible vocal talents and diverse musical influences.
Odyssey features 13 new recordings that include some classics like “Will Ye Go Lassie Go”, “The Parting Glass”, “Sailing” and “One More Day”. Whether you are a longtime fan or a new listener, you will be amazed by the power and beauty of Celtic Thunder’s voices and harmonies. Odyssey is more than just an album, it is an experience that will take you on a journey through the rich and varied musical heritage of Ireland and beyond.
In ODYSSEY, Celtic Thunder invites audiences on a sweeping voyage through the heartlands of traditional Irish music, the rhythmic pulse of contemporary Irish music, and the innovative original arrangements that are emblematic of the ensemble’s unique sound. The shared musical chemistry of Celtic Thunder’s lead vocalists Ronan Scolard, Damian McGinty, Neil Byrne, and Emmet Cahill, gives the show its compelling power, while each singer adds their distinctive voice and charm to this musical journey, creating a harmonious blend that appeals to a broad spectrum of tastes. The ODYSSEY songbook is steeped in their Irish heritage and weaves a rich tapestry of emotional and musical tones.

Due to a super crazy work day, I had to miss the live show but I especially loved hearing how CT chooses the songs they will sing.
