I did the Iztaccíhuatl hike myself last February,. Glad to see Nancy is still alive! And I also made it to the glacier and then returned because of the strong and cold wind and altitude. Still, one of my most beautiful hikes so far. Being on this vulcano is magical!

One of the great things about living in Arizona is the ability to drive to Mexico and fly from the airport in Mexicali. Two round trip flights typically cost $300 total. I also fly out of Tijuana every year to Guadalajara and roundtrip tickets cost about $120.

I wish you had someone to guide you in trying the true local "public" food. Mexico city is world famous for its nice and expensive restaurants, but I'd say the local food beats it nonetheless.
I'm glad you enjoyed the climb! Iztaccihuatl is actually taller than any mountain in the contiguous 48 states, so don't be ashamed that you didn't summit. And it seems you got very close anyway.

I love Mexico City. And those volcanoes are amazing too.Puebla is a beautiful colonial city underneath 2 massive volcanoes, both thousands of feet higher than even your Colorados 14ners.
The hipsters have taken over Mexico City, but it was hip and bohemian long before the Dank IPA bro /Instagram crowd"discovered"it.And will be after they flock somewhere else.
I grew up in the New Orleans area and grew up traveling since my parents worked for an airline. As an adult I have continued to travel. I have been all over the United States,Mexico,Canada,Ecuador, the Caribbean,Europe, and as part of the United States,I have been to Alaska (but not Hawaii yet)and Ireland is one of my favorites and I have been there and the UK the most outside the United States. But second to that is Mexico, and I will be back frequently. Colonial Mexico is amazing, the beaches are great. The deserts and jungles are amazing. The food, the culture,music,people,architecture,etc...are intoxicating and addictive. I am glad you all got to experience just a tiny bit of what the country had to offer!
