  • While waiting for parts to arrivel, I decided to quickly throw this motor back together to keep it protected and thought i would try to explain some tips on reinstalling the timing chain!

    I never knew that about the timing chain going out of sync after one revolution.... It would have screwed with me also, thanks for the info mate 👍👍

    Nice work, and the camera work was fine. l also liked the matt black painted block oh you probably already know this but its worth mentioning. when you put the cams n cam cages as l call am lol back on they have to go back in the same spot you removed them from also the bolts as well. Especially if you've put new cams in. Otherwise, you'll get uneven wear n a really annoying slight friction sound or worse, a grinding sound.

    They should line up every 38 turns according to the ford manual.

    As long as bottom is at tdc and the dots on cams are both up top the chain will be 8 links apart
    No need to check colour markings all the time

    Thanks mate! looks like the trick is putting the crank gear on the chain then putting it on the snout, was trying with the gear already on the crank last night and it wasn’t close at all

    Great job, I applaud you! May I ask why you put the sump on first? Mine's still off as I had to reseal it and now i'm hoping I haven't missed anything..

      20 Nm then turn extra 40 degrees..see fordforums.
      10 mm is not as tight as 3/8" on those front plate bolts. Rounded heads from 10mm socket on 3/8" bolts. Ford is mostly Imperial (inches).
      Agree with the positive remarks plenty of help to the Barra fixers.

    Is the timing case cover sealed with just RTV?

      @@davesmith6754 yes BF and FG covers just use RTV. BA was the only one that used a rubber gasket.

    I've had atomic chains and guides installed by my tuner and the engine has chain resonance rattle between 1200 and 2200rpm. Any ideas on what I can do?

      No idea, sorry mate. i've got 2 sets of atomic chains, guides and tensioners and never had any issues! Maybe replace the tensioner and see if that fixes anything. Thanks for watching!

      I fitted an atomic posi-stop tensioner and had the same issue from 2200rpm. Fitted a factory ford tensioner and no noise now.
