I want to start this by thanking everyone who has been driving these records. None of these records and videos are mine and I would never dare to take any kind of credit for them.
I also want to thank Donadigo for his efforts in releasing the TAS tool.
This is a video I put together when I realised how many short clips there were of TASes on TH-cam. I wanted to group them all together for viewing pleasure. If more TASes come out (Im refreshing every minute Im more obsessed than Traba) I will probably make another compilation, until then we can enjoy what we've got already. So much more is coming.
I know I didn't include every single TAS that has been released. For a couple reasons. One had super sloppy framerates, some were just optimization but not exactly flashy enough to put in this video, and some like Trinity's rambug TASes, while amazing, felt a bit repetitive. Definitely check out every creator listed in the video:

Btw the run by angecide was made using our old tool.
No bruteforce.
No speedup to reach the next section faster.
Restarting the script after every run.
Pretty much only hours of manual inputs. Mad respect.
It was also one of the most controversial videos posted. That comment section was getting more and more heated in every video
Still, the pioneers of TAS are truly the trendsetters here, you all showed what could truly be possible with the game, so indeed mad respect

what is bruteforce? like, something different from, bruteforce?
@@tormod1957 from what I understand, bruteforcing is having the computer put in random inputs in a certain section of the track and going through as many possible combinations as it can, to find the right set of inputs that nets you the fastest time. It's extremely powerful if you're looking for uberbugs that need random inputs. C11 (which I labeled a11 in the video) was bruteforced to find the uber. Donadigo's run with the wallrides is also bruteforced to find the bugfin

TAS is actually a robot of sorts, to see if doing certain things is possible, even slightly. Its been used to help actual players do awesome things.

As a trackmania newbie I got the absolute joy of seeing all these tricks for the first time tas perfect!
Trackmania was my my childhood game, so these are dreams come true!

This is awesome. It's like you all have been breaking your backs for a decade to unlock these maps via lockpicking, and donadigo just invented the key cutting machine. It's a field day, and thanks for finally getting to share the flood of ideas that have been backed up and blocked off by human limitations.
A beautiful statement, and very accurate
TAS is still limited by human inventiveness. They will brute force certain parts but may not find some crazy “drive over this barrier right next to the start to send the car flying to the finish” exploit.
Looking at these runs, it's absolutely crazy to think that we're barely a week in.. Can't wait to see what the future holds. I love this community to death! Awesome vid :)

I know right, it's been too long.. So much amazing work in that one week and to consider that like 100% of it was improved with new strategies seems unreal to me
I've been waiting for this for so long, I've dreamed about it for so long, I've seen a lot of TAS walkthroughs of other games, and I couldn't understand why in a game where control is minimized, there are no TAS walkthroughs, there are only 4 arrows and nothing else, the game ideal for TAS, more than 5+ years have passed, and I'm finally happy, I'm really happy to see the limit of each track, I understand that this is far from the end and not the ideal travel time, but finally the era of TAS has begun in trackmania ; I waited, I'm incredibly happy!

In the video Trabadia posted when admitting to cheating, he did say, if TAS tools where available he would rather do that, because he is so obsessed with A01 and the feeling of perfection.
So I'm actually kinda glad he achieved that TAS run finally and can get a mental brake from A01.

Hmmm.. It's a controversy for sure already if TAS is healthy for the game. Right now it's used to test limits and since it just became available everyone is jumping on the train.
However, this isn't trackmania anymore, it's TASmania. I think that as soon as this trend dies down a little we will be going back to normal cut actions, but I wouldn't be surprised if humans proving cuts stops becoming something to look forward to, as it would probably be done in TAS first.
I think it's important we understand how different these modes are. I bet competitions like Kackiest Kacky will be even more relevant now as TASing won't completely destroy the timesheets there, if everyone can agree not to TAS it. TMNF never truly chokes when it comes to content, but everyone can agree everyone was reaching their limits on the maps, whether it be motivation or physical human limits (A01 cough).

This would indeed be awesome, but we'd have to get a semi-official submission forum for the runs. I'm happy to keep tabs on what the records are, but creating a leaderboard without users sending their own replays could become messy and incomplete. If I do have a list of TAS WRs in a playlist, I want every single one of em :D
If theres more runs coming up I'll create another compilation, and if theres so much interest in TAS that people start actively seeking WRs and improvements I'm down for a proper TAS leaderboard. For now, lets just enjoy the show ^_^

I knew I would have issues like this one way or another, but I didn't want to be that one guy to send everyone messages like "yo you're in my video" as if I'm advertising it. It was a big dilemma so I resorted to crediting as much as I could.

I’m pretty new to TM, how long have these cuts been theorized about? Were most of them old ideas that the tas made possible?

Check 5:55 in this (linked) video, and the very end of it as well.
First of these cuts was done RTA in 2021, after gaining legendary status, only becoming possible because Plastorex figured out you could do a super small speedslide to gain enough speed to make the jump
The ridiculous cut in this (my) video at 5:33 by Trinity must be just as old. It was never done RTA either, so this is the first time anyone has ever done it. No one expected it to be this ridiculous but the idea is recorded in a video from 7 years ago!

According to this video, the cut is 13 years old. It was proven possible by TAS then performed RTA.
Another fun fact, other than the uberbug cut in JaVs video, every single one has now been performed, the last 2 in 2021, and so many more new cuts have been discovered, Including simo's triple flip at the start of my video.

Can someone give me a vague idea of how the tool works? Because it seems even if you try countless times and tweak countless times some run just seem impossible
Since all trackmania inputs in a replay are saved to a file. You can edit this file repeatedly, changing inputs one by one, changing the outcome of the replay. The tool lets you freely edit, redrive, remove and add inputs.
Other than that, there's slow motion, letting you manually slowly drive, but you can also use "brute-force", where you make the program go through thousands of possible random inputs to find small improvements.
That's how the tool works. You can create theoretically perfect runs, but that really depends on how many hours you want to put into it.
@@psclly Wow I'm really intrigued by the "brute-force" algorithm, I wonder if it can get creative and find those flashy shortcuts by itself. If not it's just sheerly impressive of the runs' creators' creativity! So I guess they must've set up creative ideas and "isolate" the section to let the tool run. Would that be remotely correct?
@@GreyWind Unfortunately the tool isn't strong enough to find shortcuts on its own (lets be real, theres more possible combinations of inputs than there are possible games of chess), and the brute force tool only records and saves the inputs if something factually meaningful is found.
Like if you already have a 22.35, and you use brute-force on the entire run. It will mention having found a 22.34 through careful changes.
It's hard to expect the current tool to find shortcuts on your own, but as you said quite accurately, it is used to improve on ideas in isolation.
Usually TASers create base runs with their own manual driving in slow motion, from there they can choose to brute force the run up until lets say checkpoint 1, and they can continue driving once the brute force program found the optimal route. Rince and repeat for optimization.
This video by now has grown outdated and old, considering the kinds of shortcuts being released nowadays, but brute force remains a perfect tool to squeeze out hundreds.
If a map only takes 10 seconds to complete, brute force is your friend to find a possible solution that brings you that extra 0.01 seconds gain, and it's lovely.

what does "inputs by" mean?
An input is an action, like pressing A to steer left, or pressing Shift to brake. A replay file is simply a big list of inputs in that replay.
TAS allows us to take a replay and replicate exactly what inputs were done. If a TASer takes a set of inputs from another replay, and then changes them for a better time, the original author of those inputs is credited.
Let's say hans drivers 20.22, and someone replicates the replay and improves it to 20.01. This means the TAS used inputs originally created by hans. Hand is thus credited.

I'm sorry lad, this is the best I can do. Since TAS replays aren't allowed to be distributed, all I can go with is youtube videos. I download them at the highest possible quality. If you have complaints go to the TH-cam compression developers, or the people uploading the tases. Can't imagine their pcs are made for high resolution rendering and thus can't blame them, but this is the best I can do.
