- Hey you guys! We believe this was the perfect song to start us off in 2021! This song is beautiful; it has a driving beat, awesome rhythm led by the bass, a masterful use of both the guitar and the keyboard and of course the amazing voice! Mia and I are astounded after listening to U2! We couldn't believe we've never listened to them before! They absolutely blew our minds. We felt the emotion and the lyrics were very much musically driven! If you guys would like to see more reactions like this definitely comment down below! 37 years ago this video and song set the world on fire. MTV was in it's infancy and this was when all MTV showed was music videos. I was in the Marines and the world seemed to be filled with promise. U2, Pat Benatar, and Jefferson Starship were among the groups that were part of the soundtrack of my life at the time. Thank you Mia and Juliet for taking me there.

@@mr.e8432 the beginning of the end??? really??? hmmm - they reinvent themselves for the 90s with an astounding record "Actung Baby" which was not only super commercially successful but also acclaimed by critics and fans alike! Zooropa + Pop - again changed up their sound and experiments with electronic themes of the 90s house+dance era - then again reinvented themseves for the 2000s with another no 1 album in "All That you cant leave behind" - then in 2004 - "How to dismantle an Atomic Bomb" another acclaimed album giving them a "clean sweep" of 5 Grammys beating out Mariah Carey, Gwen Stefani + Kanye West (bear in mind this was 2005).....same year they were inducted into the "Rock+Roll Hall of Fame" on their FIRST year of eligibility....... then in 2011 they became the WORLD RECORD holders for the most successful "Live World Tour" of ALL TIME ..............(rattle + hum beginning of the end ) :) how amusing

This whole concert was absolute 🔥! It still holds up so well even now, one of the greatest concerts ever, so good.
I used to have this show on VHS. This whole show was incredible. Unfortunately VHS wears out eventually when you watch it a few thousand times.

Was not expecting U2. They. have so many great songs. Dig deeper! You won't be disappointed. The love you two have for all kinds of music is amazing. Big thumbs up.
I never understood the hate for U2. Glad to see there's none here. They became the biggest band in the world after this show and then Live Aid. One of those bands where the whole is greater than the sum of the parts. So many great songs - try Sunday Bloody Sunday from the same show. Bad from Live Aid, and When Love Comes to Town live with BB King. Followed by Mysterious Ways or One from the Zooropa tour which was a complete re-invention of the band's sound and image, and kept them at the top for another few years. They always knew how to put on a good concert.
You need to understand why U2 are so passionate - they are singing based on the Northern Ireland Conflict between Catholics and Protestants which was basically a war and in their lifetime

Now watch "Rattle and Hum" from the Joshua Tree tour footage, '87. It literally contains several of the greatest moments in rocknroll "live performance" history. no exageration.

Bono made a minor lyric change for this performance. He sang "under a thundercloud and rain" instead of "Under a blood-red sky" as they are playing in a rain storm.
I wonder why he missed out "golden age/ wars we wage" line. it rings so true.

I watched this when it aired.. This was recorded and shown on MTV when it actually meant music television, and this performance really gave them their audience in America. This is what made U2 special back in 1983.. Nice to see you young ladies enjoying this..

The rooftop music video is great, but the footage and performance from "Rattle and Hum" is spine-tingling. The film is black and white until this song, and then the bright red backdrop and this song starts ... (mike drop)

I am totally blown away that two young girls and singing the praises of a gig that was over 35 years ago! It is worth checking out the whole concert which is easily accessible on youtube or on DVD. It is amazing and a concert I love to this day. Well done girls!
You girls are reacting to U2 the very same way I did all those years ago. U2 was the band that first made me aware there is so much more to music than I was getting on the three or four local stations in the Midwest. I am forever grateful for the musical journey they started me on and I hope your journey is as wonderful as mine! A bad with a female lead you should get to know are the Pretenders. I love everything by them but one of the best live songs of all time is “I’ll Stand by You”. Just one of a million suggestions for you!

Great choice ladies!!im a huge U2 fan!in my opinion U2 is the best band ever!in fact in the 80s n 90s they were known as the biggest band in the world!ive been lucky to have been to 4 concerts and each one was a real treat and a great time!
I was 15 years old when I went to this show with my friends. On June 5th 2023 it will be the 40th anniversary of this historical, iconic concert. It had rained, a lot of rain. torrential downpour. None of us there thought the band would play the show. We waited, the band waited, the film crew waited and we waited. The rain stopped and banks of clouds came rolling down through the ampitheater, low thick clouds. The atmosphere was perfect. " The under a thunder crowd rain " line was added for us who attended that night. When they finally took the stage there was about 6,000 ( out of 10,000 seat ampitheater ) of us left as many departed because of the rain thinking there was no way they would play the show. Those who left that night probably still regret it. What followed was the most amazing magical concert I had or have seen. I am so glad you young ladies have discovered the greatest band ever and I hope you dig deep into U2's library. There are so many great songs to be discovered.

You remind me of myself when I was about your age and I could not wait to see U2. Camped out overnight for tickets. Fortunately I’ve been able to see them many times. Consider viewing another live version of the song from 2017 or 2018. Same four guys, same passion, all these years later. Tremendous live band.

i will follow is an EPIC track and universally thought of as their 1st single but its wasnt their 1st - it was the 1st track on their DEBUT album "Boy". their 1st single/EP was "11 O'Clock Tick Tock" another real STOMPER especially LIVE :)

I actually saw them on this same tour when I was just 10. They absolutely blew that crowd away and they were relatively unknown at the time. If you can believe it, they were the opening act for Todd Rundgren.
1983, Colorado, US. a band formed by 4 talented irish guys played under bad weather at Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Fortunately their fantastic performance was recorded on videotape and the rest is music history.

Great reaction ladies. I first saw U2 on the Joshua Tree tour in 1987 and can still remember New Year's Day vividly with the crowd singing along word for word. I would recommend reacting to other U2 tracks such as BAD at Live Aid 1985 and With or Without you from Paris 1987. Keep up the good work in 2021 and Happy New Year

I was at this concert; it was a rainy night--almost snowing, even in June...Red Rocks is a beautiful venue in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains near Morrison, Colorado.
I saw U2 at Live Aid, 7/13/1985, Philly JFK Stadium!!! They rocked the entire crowd!!! Also there I saw Ozzy, Santana, Tom Petty, and remember Phil Collins "In The Air Tonight" also. Led Zeppelin was the best of course, they played Stairway to Heaven!!!!! But U2 was magical as well, they had their crowd moment, well deserved.

Welcome aboard, young ladies! You are experiencing one of the greatest bands, of all time. Lead singer, Bono has a voice that emotes so much emotions.
This is the U2 of the early 80s when I was in high school and fell in love with the band. This era was their post punk/new wave sound. They evolved and changed many times over the course of a LONG career (still active btw). In the late 80s and early 90s they were indisputably the biggest band in the world. Bono on vocals, Edge was the guitar player (and keys in this song).
So many amazing songs. I Will Follow, Gloria, Out Of Control, Electric Co, Two Hearts Beat as One. Unforgettable Fire, A Sort of Homecoming, Bad, Pride (in the Name of Love), nearly every song on the Joshua Tree album, Mysterious Ways, One, The Fly, Beautiful Day, Elevation. Way more.

I remember first seeing U2 in 1981 for the "October" album tour. I saw them twice in 1983 for this tour the "War" album. I saw them at the Irvine Meadows Amphitheater about 2-months after the Red Rocks show, and again a few weeks later the US Festival.

Red Rocks is one of the best Venues to see a concert. Younger brother was fortunate enough to see this concert there, Myself, alot of band you've done Reactions to, including Metallica, Rush, and many more.

This concert was performed under very rainy and wet conditions at Red Rocks in Colorado 1983. It was fitting for this band and Bono loved it! New Years Day is a war anthem song.

I went to see U2 around 8 times in the 1980-1990's, every concert was amazing! One of the few bands who are even better live.
