I could watch Sam paint for hours. 10-20 minutes every other week is just a cruel drip-feed. Those are awesome rust effects from only using a couple thinned down paints. I recently treated myself to the Secret Weapon weathering set so I can’t wait for those to arrive.

A way i really like to paint rusty weapons is rhinox hide base, then get a small piece of foam like the cubed foam in carry cases, use the foam to dab on mournfang brown then dab on skrag brown in a smaller quantity and finally dab on iron breaker near the weapons edges

Thanks to Sam, I have started licking my brush, and surprisingly, it really helps! Great tutorial again, guys :-) I also quite like the easily missed bit where Sam dips the BACK of the brush into the paint pot to get paint onto his pallet, rather than using the bristles. Why didn't I think of that?!
Hi guys. First, thank you so much. I am a 57 year old gal that has stumbled into miniature painting. Your videos and Adam's tutorials have been a great help! So pardon if you get asked this a lot. How long do your brushes last and what do you do with them when the end curls up? Thanks again.
I find that the synthetic nylon brushes regardless of brand will start to curl within hours, before I've even completed one model with them. I carefully snip the curls off with a scissors and use them for non-detail work like blocking in areas of the miniature, washes, mixing paints on the palette, etc... I try to find a use for them as long as I can. For a brush that can hold its point for a long time it's worth investing in a few round sable watercolor brushes. I believe the black handled brush Sam uses in this video is a Winsor & Newton series 7. Escoda Reserva and Raphael 8404 are also good brands.

Model Mates rust and verdigris effects are amazing, I love them (dunno if they're still available to buy though :( ), along with AKs rust pigments and typhus rust :) Love your painting videos Sam, great to watch a master at work :)
Is there a video where I can see how to prepare the colours on the wet palette? You seems to have a kind of strategy doing it and mixing the different colours
Its close, a toss up between Stromhost Silver and Runefang Steel. Both are in the layer paint line and both are excellent for silver or bright metal touch ups. Now if someone could help figure out which is GWs best Brass/Bronze, and Gold paints, that would be great....AoS and Custodes have made that line of color a bit of a mess.
I so want to get a set of these guys just to make one look like Spinal from Killer Instinct. I would have to make a few adjustments with molding green stuff....but I mean its ALMOST worth it.
Tabletop minions I have a question. Is it OK for me to use oil paints on my miniatures. I got my first GW miniature set a few days ago but I discovered that there are very few hobby shops in my city. And the ones that do sell acrylic paints are either expensive or don't have a substantial range of colors. Do you have any tips on using oil paints? especially since there aren't many youtube videos discussing the subject. ex: Are there oil metallics? is it OK if i paint the model without priming the model (colors seem to stick pretty well to my test miniature)? what is the best way to dry my miniature quickly (it's been 2 days but the base black on my miniature has still not completely dried).
Looks like he's using a regular old synthetic brush for general work, then a winsor & newton for the details. I do something similar myself. Save the expensive brushes with the fine tips for when you need them!
Wait... Does everyone else use the back of their brush to grab small amounts of paint from their pots? Am I the only once using paint pots like a barbarian? Getting it all caught in my bristles and ferrule?
Bit of a strange audio mix. Try bringing the lows down a bit and raise the volume of the high end. Seems awkwardly bassy. Otherwise great video, love this guys painting style!

Little bit of finely ground cinnamon for texture has worked well in the past. Works well for dirt texture too.

Why do you lick your brush?
Some people finish cleaning their brushes and bringing them to a point on cloth or a paper towel, some people do it by licking their brushes.
It skeeves the #$&@ out of me. 😬

To avoid ingesting toxic pigments or additives in the paint.
As long as your only using Acrylic's - you're not ingesting anything toxic. Just bitter as all hell.
