Telling them to let their primer sit over night 👌 an underrated tip. I promise it helps prevent all sorts of issues

Zenithal is king! Your videos have completely changed my painting. I can now actually complete entire armies to a standard I am happy with. Keep up the good work, sir.

I've recently experimented with speedpaints over silver undercoat and it's fantastic. Gravelord grey for steel, yellow for gold (bright yellow for cartoonish, or more orange for realistic), and orange, crusader skin, pale bone and leather for copper, brass, corroded steel... you should try it.

Great video! To the point with great tips and not a 30 minute time waster, a healthy amount of humor too? Thanks man, can’t wait to see more of your videos.

Sometimes depending on the model geometry I will break the inside out rule and start with dry brushing the exterior parts first. That way when my dry brushing accidentally hits unintended parts I don't care that much cause it's not a part that are actually painted yet 😅.

Contrast paints over metallic base (either drybrushed or flat silver) is a great way to do different metals.
Yellow for gold, orange for copper, gore-grunta fur for brassy look etc. For a shiny look, do a final highlight or drybrush with pure silver again.

    Good video!!
    Nice recipe.
I hadn't thought of doing armor like that.
"Meh, I know how to do armor..."
    D'oh!
    But maybe there's another way.
    Nicely done sir!
    Thank you.

For fast mostLy armored, spray prime with a silver metal (Army Painter, Citadel, etc), wash Nuln oil, dry brush silver (Neuron Compound). Then other color details. Did a dozen Gondor soldiers in an hour this way not counting basing and drying time.

I make all my own hobby paints. I just purchased a huge lot of acrylic inks and some metallic and fluorescent mica powders to make my own contrast paints. I use matte acrylic medium, distilled water and flow medium to get it to the right consistency. Recently I focused on creating a full range of metallics and chameleon paints. I’ll use a pearlescent medium for the base instead of the matte medium to give it that metallic sheen. I also have metallic and shimmer effect alcohol inks which are great for making translucent glazes when used with a matte varnish. I’m doing all of this to start my own budget diy hobby channel.

Good stuff. I think you also mentioned your recipe for black Space Marine armor again as well recently? I seem to remember it being prime black, highlight with gray zenithal, maybe one more lighter highlight, and then a dark wash to bring it all back down? Asking because I have a black armor project planned in the near future.

Awesome work, thank you for such a fun and informative video! Your contrast over zenithal looks amazing. That green skin is SO smooth. Whenever I try this, I find the contrast comes out looking very uneven and splotchy. Any idea what I could be doing wrong? Are you glazing it on very thinly? Thinning it down with medium? Putting it on a wet pallet? Etc. Thank you!

    • @tabletopminions
      @tabletopminions  ปีที่แล้ว +2

Straight out of the pot, shaken vigorously, but I do put it on quickly with a bigger brush (size 4) which might help combat the splotchiness. Thanks for watching!

Since copper rusts to green it'd be fascinating to see what it'd come out if layer 3 out of 4(or 5?) is a patina-green.
It mightn't work for these orcs tho, they're already green :)

So I'm working on this mini, I wish I could find a way to show it. The tabletop I'm painting it for, they want black and purple color scheme.
The knight is on top of an undead goat/horse type of mount. He has a big shield, and the mini is very detailed. How can I make purplish black shiny armor? I'm a beginner lol I've got the techniques down in your video but I'd like to have purple or black shiny armor

Trying to remember if you've ever done a video recently on how NOT to paint over what you've already painted, as it seems to be more of a potential problem with contrast/speed paints and something I still do way more than I'd like to.
