    This crossing is located right next to Newhaven Harbour station and also in the area of Newhaven Port and Boat Yard. The level crossing is publicly used for pedestrians to cross the line to change platforms at the station. The road over the crossing use to lead to a car-park and access to part of the Port but its since been fenced off and now only appears to lead to the signal box. Due to its infrequent use, the crossing still has old barriers by 'GWE' and bells. Another crossing, Newhaven (Beach Road) is located a few hundred yards south of this crossing, also controlled from the signal box.
    Probably the last video uploaded before this crossing is permanently closed. Temporary fencing has been installed across the road.
    Thanks For Watching!

    Sounds like Havant from yesteryear. Sad to see this crossing closed. Though, it can be good for a level crossing to close, providing of course access to property is not impeded; both for safety and train journey time improvements.

      Indeed. In the long term, the more crossings closed, the more reliable and safer the UK Rail Network becomes. This crossing has been barely used recently. It was once very busy with traffic, as it used to be access to a ferry ramp for vehicles, on the car ferries to Dieppe, France. Now, with the signal box going, there's no point the crossing being there. However, it does mean Newhaven Harbour doesn't have step-free access anymore 🤔

    Ah! I thought you'd upload this around now! The crossing's being permanently closed on Sunday (25th of August) but I can see from pictures that there are "No public access" signs around the crossing ready for its removal. Our videos are probably the last ever recorded of this crossing which is quite a shame really as this was quite a nice crossing! Anyways, supherb video, UKLCC with me getting right in the camera shot lol 👍😁

      Yeah, looks like it's ready to all be removed, with control moving to Three Bridges. Its good we've filmed some videos here before it's closure anyhow. The crossing was partly inaccessible anyway.

    It’s always sad to see a level crossing get closed. This bloody rush-rush-rush society we live in these days....

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, bit of a shame. However, the signal box is going here and control being moved to Three Bridges, therefore this crossing is no longer required.

    Crossed this one many a time on my way to/from Seaford. The building in the background used to be the Parker Pen factory, also sadly closed now.

      Ah right. It looks very quiet and barely used now, so I can see why it's being closed.

      I won't be able to revisit this crossing anytime soon, however, a picture shows literally everything removed. There's little to nothing remaining of this level crossing now.

    Sad to see a crossing closed but love the sound of those bells. Most crossings in the US where I lived use electronic bells... (e-bells) I personally like the old mechanical bells ringing.

    • @cheeta92
      @cheeta92 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Same in Netherlands and Belgium, they have change all the old analog bells to electronic bells

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Yeah, UK crossings with bells is slowly becoming more uncommon, with electronic alarms replacing mechanical bells 😏

    Why has it been closed???
    that kinda sucks

    • @UKLevelCrossingsChannel
      @UKLevelCrossingsChannel  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      The road over the crossing only gave access to a signal box. The signal box has now been closed since controls have been moved to a signalling centre, so the crossing isn't needed.
