    I think Redbubble also went about it the wrong way by charging artists up to 50% of their profit, which cause a lot of people to leave, and not improving their mockups, not modernizing their website, not improving the print quality, not including plus sized clothing.

    Problem with all these Ai assited programs to make Art and literature is there will be more makers than consumers and the market will be over saturated until no one is making money .

    • @WholesaleTed
      @WholesaleTed  ปีที่แล้ว +12

      The thing though, is that making money isn't really guarded these days, by art ability anyway, thanks to apps like Canva with huge libraries. Instead, it's about ideas. It's about having a great idea. And AI art can turn your idea into a reality, but it can't come up with the idea for you.

    I have never seen a direct image from Dalle3 that’s worth the time. It’s lousy. I would love to see you use it in real time because I sure as hell can’t get any of the images to be worth even looking at a second time, let alone printing on something. I just tried the typography thing and it greatly misspelled every single one of the four words I asked for.

  • @zzurmzp
    @zzurmzp ปีที่แล้ว +1

    A very good reason why you should learn to draw: Many AI-generated machines have filters for the images you want to create. I mean, cute puppies are fine, but there are too many cute puppies out there! Andrew Loomis has very good learning books, you can just start with "Fun With A Pencil: How Everybody Can Easily Learn to Draw". As you improve your drawing skills, you may not get rich, but in time you will develop your own style and make enough money to support your way of living...

    • @WholesaleTed
      @WholesaleTed  ปีที่แล้ว

      If you check the shipping from other Etsy sellers, my guess is their shipping is probably not too dissimilar. It's normal to charge shipping as a separate charge. I do, most Etsy sellers do, a lot of people think they need to offer shipping for free, but you don't. And for a big bulky item like that, shipping will inevitably be more since it can't fit into a standard postage bag.

    Can we use bing image creator for commercial purposes?

  • @roundandsquareful
    @roundandsquareful ปีที่แล้ว

    Dalle has said you can't use your creations commercially. You can't use the one you describe here, either, the one through Bing, commercially, either. From their terms: "Use of Creations. Subject to your compliance with this Agreement, the Microsoft Services Agreement, and our Content Policy, you may use Creations outside of the Online Services for any legal personal, non-commercial purpose." But you can still use it for personal use.

    • @WholesaleTed
      @WholesaleTed  ปีที่แล้ว +2

      So - I’m not a lawyer, I can’t give legal advice. But, actually, DALL-E's take is that you can use your creations commercially, according to their TOS. This is their TOS:
      Can I sell images I create with DALL·E?
      Subject to the Content Policy and Terms, you own the images you create with DALL·E, including the right to reprint, sell, and merchandise - regardless of whether an image was generated through a free or paid credit.
      And I'm not surprised they don't try to restrict you, because if any AI art image generator tries to place a license or restriction on the images created, I do not personally see based on my own personal understanding on copyright law, how it can be legally enforced. Because based on current rulings, it appears like they do not own the images that are generated. It doesn't matter whether that is DALL-E, Midjourney, Ideogram etc. The copyright office has ruled that AI images have no copyright protection, so they cannot be licensed by anyone, including the image generators themselves. Since no one has the rights to them, anyone is allowed to use them as they please. I discussed it in a video here: th-cam.com/video/sBbeD3bFBZ0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=2JjQN5-htegoRsDj&t=99
      To license an image, you must own the copyright to the image. If you don't own the copyright to the image, you have no ability to legally license the image, as it is not yours. Since AI images are not eligible for copyright, anyone is allowed to use them freely.

    If it’s too good to be true, it usually is. Obviously, they want the information we are asking for in Dalle. They must be using that info to find out what people are looking for and create their own products with that info.

    • @WholesaleTed
      @WholesaleTed  ปีที่แล้ว

      They absolutely are trying to encourage us to use it. I mean, I wouldn't call it too good to be true, per-say. There is a saying that if you can't figure out what the product is: you are the product. But in this case here, it is a win-win relationship. They get data, we get images (and gift cards). We're their product, but they're also effectively our product too.

    There's a difference between training, and downright stealing. All writers, and all artists train themselves on the works of others, and AI does it even more, thus, mixing up all the creators they train on, thus making creations more varied. But when a person uses a platform to write a story, characters, and to boot, the style of an author, that's stealing.

    Dall e 3 doesn't seems to be really free, you have to use tokens

    • @WholesaleTed
      @WholesaleTed  ปีที่แล้ว

      It is free. I explained the tokens in this video - you get 25 free boost tokens currently a day, and that speeds up the image generation to a few seconds. Once you're out of tokens, you can generate unlimited images for free, but you'll be throttled speed-wise. Depending on how loaded the servers are, it might take 30 seconds, it might take hours. People have had a lot of variation. So you can still use it for free, but it's obviously much better to use when you have Boosts available.

    I also read books and watch youtube without violating their copyright. Consuming ("Scanning") can't be conceived as a violation of copyright by any stretch of the imagination. That said, a _user_ willfully coercing a non-sentient tool into outputting text of more than 80% similarity to a copyrighted work should be held in violation of copyrights. Furthermore, for all Mr. Martin knows, ChatGPT read a copy, or sections of text, of GoT on the internet. As this is not preventable, unreasonable, and irrelevant in any case, the suit is completely absurd.

    Do you have any information on Etsy no longer allowing POD mockups? Confused on what is and isn’t ok… lots of Etsy Stores being suspended/closed.

    • @WholesaleTed
      @WholesaleTed  ปีที่แล้ว +3

      Warning, this is a long response, LOL…
      So, periodically, Etsy will do a large-scale sweep, using their bots, to identify stores that are violating their policies. For more than 99% of legitimate stores, they are unaffected. However, a small number, less than 1%, do get affected, including this most recent sweep. A big range of stores have been suspended, including handmade stores, digital product stores and print on demand stores. These stores have all been sent the same email, stating that they violated the “Handmade Policy.” When sweeps like this occur, people often speculate and rumors start to spread about why stores have been banned. This time, the rumors are that mockups are the cause. This is a rumor, it has not been announced by Etsy. And Etsy has posted no official policy against mockups.
      Almost all stores on Etsy use mockups, and more than 99% of those stores are still up on Etsy, selling their products, like usual. In reality, a very small number of stores, relative to the number on Etsy, got impacted by this most recent sweep. When Etsy does these widespread sweeps, they usually incorrectly suspend legitimate stores in the cross-fire. As frustrating as this is, it is very common because large-scale websites like Etsy (and others like TH-cam/eBay etc) have to use bots to manage their user base, and bots make mistakes. I really dislike this, which is why I've said many times that I have chosen to build a business that is not reliant on just 1 platform (such as Etsy, or TH-cam, etc) for this reason.
      Since rumors about why these stores got suspended usually turn out to be false, since it’s more often than not a bot issue, and given that the other 99%+ of stores were not suspended, I really doubt this speculation is true and instead:
      1) These stores broke other rules in the Handmade Policy that they didn't realize.
      2) Were incorrect bans by imperfect bots which, again, always occurs during large-scale sweeps and are usually reversed, but is still immensely frustrating.
      I do think it's important to keep 2 things in mind though:
      #1: Most accounts created on Etsy are not legitimate. For large-scale websites, most account signups are spam/scam signups. To protect their user base from these bad players, they do have to do large-scale sweeps and the only way to do it is with bots. As frustrating as it is, this large user base also enables new users to take advantage of a huge amount of free/low-cost traffic on the platform. It is a necessary evil although I do personally wish more could be done to not hit legitimate accounts in the cross-fire, but it is a difficult situation.
      #2: This is actually a very small amount of stores and listings affected - less than 1%. I can't give an exact figure, other than it is absolutely less than 1%. But, whenever this occurs, that minority are, understandably, the loudest. Fair enough! However, within Etsy discussion groups that include these impacted individuals, this creates an echo-chamber. It can feel like a much bigger, wide-spread issue than it really is. Most users have no idea that there has been a sweep, because the vast majority of products (which also feature mockups) have been unaffected.
      If Etsy does make a new ruling/announcement that they have decided to not allow mockups, I'll absolutely post an update, but the honest truth is I doubt they will. Instead, I suspect the most likely outcome is that, like usual, some stores just got incorrectly hit in cross-file during a standard sweep. And quite a few will be quietly reinstated. It has happened plenty of times in the past and, just like now, led to a lot of discussions/rumors about why it occurred when in reality there was no reason, it was random, which is exactly why it was so confusing.

    This is simple: copyright provides next to no protection. When some art style becomes popular, it gets copied all over the place. When GoT hit it big, I'm going to bet there were a tons of new books in that same genre, non of which violated copyright. ALL artist steal. Period. It's super hypocritical to say that any AI is stealing from them. They stole from others, pot, kettle, black?

      So - I’m not a lawyer, I can’t give legal advice. But based on my understanding, any AI image created by any AI image generator - whether that is DALL-E, Midjourney, Ideogram etc can be used for commercial purposes because no one, including the image generators themselves, owns the rights to them.

    Authors, chill about AI! It's just learning from others and using that knowledge to create new works, like you've been doing for centuries. No one writes in a vacuum. Shakespeare was influenced by Ovid, Virgil, and Plutarch. Austen was influenced by Richardson and Burney. Dickens was influenced by Smollett and Fielding. Twain was influenced by Ward and Harte. Woolf was influenced by Joyce and Proust. Martin himself has said that he was influenced by Tolkien's The Lord of the Rings, which he read as a teenager. He has also said that he was inspired by Robert E. Howard's Conan the Barbarian stories.
    Let's all stop being so possessive about our ideas and start working together to create something new and awesome.
    Real famous authors (not this bunch of second-raters) are talking differently about AI. Stephen King, for example, has said that he's interested in using AI to help him with his writing, and he believes that AI could be used to create new and innovative forms of storytelling. He's also said, "Would I forbid the teaching (if that is the word) of my stories to computers? Not even if I could. I might as well be King Canute, forbidding the tide to come in. Or a Luddite trying to stop industrial progress by hammering a steam loom to pieces." Here's the kind of author whose ego is not so fragile that he's frightened of machines taking over his job or who's not only writing to make money.

      Writers aren’t trained like AI’s. Writing is a craft. Writers strive to express themselves in original ways. AI’s are trained to produce likely phrases and sentences, based on millions of samples of existing phrases and sentences. They are generative, which is not the same thing as creative. I’ve seen people make this argument before with regard to AI-generated images, and it really betrays a fundamental lack of understanding of what artists (or writers) do.

      I’m not a lawyer and so I can’t give legal advice on things like this, but my understanding is that Microsoft can’t enforce anything that would stop you, but that is just my understanding, and it’s for 3 reasons:
      1) Microsoft allows you to open up images created in Microsoft Designer, which you can then download, and the terms from Microsoft Designer from what I (as a non-lawyer) see, do not limit commercial purposes (as long as they're legal).
      2) Microsoft are also using DALL-E to generate the images. Which is interesting because as-per DALL-E, they don't limit commercial use:
      Can I sell images I create with DALL·E?
      Subject to the Content Policy and Terms, you own the images you create with DALL·E, including the right to reprint, sell, and merchandise - regardless of whether an image was generated through a free or paid credit.
      And I’m not surprised that DALL-E don’t try to claim they can stop you, because…
      3) AI Images currently can’t be copyrighted, and it doesn’t look like that will change anytime soon, which means that nobody, including microsoft, has the rights to the outputted images that are created. I discussed that here: th-cam.com/video/sBbeD3bFBZ0/w-d-xo.htmlsi=2JjQN5-htegoRsDj&t=99
      So, in theory: you could download an image straight from Bing’s image creator and upload it for personal purpose somewhere else on the internet. You then, as a “business” could then download that image and legally use it however you like, since it is public domain anyway.

      All writers read other writers' books and get inspiration from them. Isn't Percy Jackson a copycat of Harry Potter?
      The issue is when someone uses someone else's trademarked characters, book names, etc. But even then, you're in the gray realm of fan fiction, as you pointed out. Does it matter if a dude writes a Game of Throne fanfic or if an AI writes one? Some authors/publishers don't approve of fanfiction and will have websites take it down or send cease and desist letters. Others don't care or feel like it's beneficial to keeping up interest in their IP, knowing that fans will always prefer what they've created first.
      But even if an author hates fanfiction and fights against it, it's the person who posts it who is the issue, not the AI he used to generate some or all of it.
