- Move over Wario, Peppino Spaghetti is-a-numbah one now. Pizza Tower is a blisteringly fast 2D platformer that can most easily be described as a spiritual successor to the Wario Land series, though that doesn't quite do it justice.

This review was worth the wait. It seemed like Mitchel Saltzman actually took the time to learn the game and it’s mechanics and really enjoyed doing it as well.

A lot of people have compared this to spongebob and Wario but the frantic batshit animation and those highly detailed closeups before the boss fights actually remind me a lot of Ren & Stimpy
It's more courage the cowardly dog in a lot of places to me. Especially his reaction to pizza face in the intro.
Before the game released on steam, Ren & Simpy was the thing everyone compared the art style to
the art looks more like mad magazine grimey stuff than it does anything nickelodeon

Yeah, reviewers need to, at a minimum, have a full understanding of a game before they review it. Even if they're rating a "hype" game that people think is 9/10 anyways, the mechanics and tech that is part of the game plays the most important role in dictating the overall enjoyment of the game for every player.
So, he's biased.
This game definitely deserves the spotlight. Definitely indie game of the year.

Bought Pizza Tower yesterday based on the animation and steam reviews alone. Been vibing since. This game is not to be missed. It's also only $20!

@@BMP2U $20 is still definitely worth spending when it's a game that the developers put all their love and passion into AND ALSO means you're supporting indie developers.
I've played absolutely terrible games that cost up to $50 or $60. 20$ for this amount of quality and care is absolutely worth every cent!
Definitely more passion put into it than most Triple A games recently.

It's a toss-up between pizza tower and hi fi rush for me. Both are incredible, near flawless examples of their respective genres.
One thing y'all forgot to mention on getting P-ranks is that you need to maintain a full combo throughout the entire level. Once that combo resets you're not getting that p-rank unless you restart the level. Boss fights are a bit more simple on paper as you just need to avoid taking damage.

It’s like a sonic game, if you were actually encouraged by the level design to go fast, without being forced to memorize the level.
you kinda have to memorize the level and replay it in order to get high scores or low times, like a sonic game. you are encouraged by the level design to go fast, but you have to earn that speed, just like a sonic game.
@@desmo-ciel But at least the enemies lower their guard when you are going fast enough, allowing you to plow through them without getting hurt. That avoids the bubsy syndrome where you can go fast but you can't avoid the enemies fast enough so you end up slowing down anyway.
@@Pinstar nah there are obstacles like that which punish you for blindly going fast, like those banana peels and the dreaded walls. sonic and this game is about going fast while the game actively tries to stop you, and while the games might have slightly different ways of going about it, its still the same thing. you avoid the enemies and obstacles you cannot normally react to by learning they are there.
Oh also just a random tip, if you grab-dash and immediately press in the opposite direction of your movement to halt all momentum. After that you drop faster and instantly than you would if you just kept running. Following this up with a grab-duck dash makes you practically resume your speed.

Yeah they basically work on a scale of 6-9. Don’t think I’ve ever seen lower than a 6 on a game that isn’t universally hated and not made by a triple A studio, and vice versa for anything above a 9.
The only indie 10 I've seen from them is dwarf fortress

Looks like fun! The 90's cartoon art style is pretty great too.
Missed the detail that a P-Rank also requires a full combo without dropping said combo. Combo also needs to be started on the first screen of the level, can't just avoid enemies.

Fun fact: if you run out of time during pizza time and pizza face spawns, it is possible to outrun him and make it back to the entrance after time hits 0. It's hard but it's possible
Only on certain screens, some like Wasteyard have many impossible screens like anything involving Ghost Peppino

he move in a straight line towards you and you gotta take advantage of that
it's why someone made the lap 3 mod, where pizza face spawns Instantly on lap 3 and you have to run to the end with that in mind
The animation and expressions are absolutely hilarious eye candy

Edit: Small correction, you have to find all the secrets AND not drop the combo from the first room till the end for a P rank
You can get hit and still get a p rank. You need to maintain a combo throughout the run, get an S rank, and get all secrets.
You will probably not keep your combo if you get hit, but you can get hit lol

-Killing an enemy before leaving the first room
-Never dropping your combo before taunting at the Lap 2 entrance door
-Completing lap 2
-S Rank score requirement
-Finding all three secrets
Getting hit doesn't immediately disqualify you from P rank, it's just very dangerous because it eats at your combo meter a lot.

It's confirmed that Pizza Tower isn't coming to Switch anytime (maybe cuz McPig didn't want to get destroyed by Nintendo and Pizza Tower is Steam Deck verified always), but Idk about other consoles
