Abandoned 4 Million Dollar 1940s Hollywood Estate Home

  • this Abandoned Estate Home was built in 1946 in an area surrounded by farm fields. It was by itself up until the 1960’s when the surrounding was developed.
The amazing landscaping was created shortly after the estate was built by an English landscape architect & her husband & business partner.
The grounds & the mansion were used extensively in videos, commercials & television shows over the years however these days it sits, quiet. Over the years many events were held at the mansion & even included the likes of Willie Nelson! I sincerely hope that if others do find this place they treat it with the respect it deserves.
In the End, Unfortunately like most places i explore, this house will probably end up demolished for some ugly, cheaply built Mcmansion to replace it.

@@nikkilea5632 : EXACTLY, Nikki. It seems to be a growing trend, thankfully.
I have to say, I get angry when I watch Ethan's videos, because so many of the places he features - how he gets in them I'll never know - have no damn, business being destroyed in the first place. As Gladys has said; some of this is history. Architectural, history so SHOULD, be preserved for THAT ALONE!

The laundry chute was in the built in cabinet that was locked in the hallway. They would hide them in those. The master and 2nd huge bedroom that shared the master bath were probably his and her bedrooms for a couple who wanted separate bedrooms. The older i get the more logic i see in that ;)

Makes me wanna cry. Amazing house. The living room/dining room as well as the basement bar area have such an art deco feel to it. I love it. Also, the bathroom between two bedrooms is called a Jack and Jill bathroom. I think that idea started around the 40's. Just for two bedrooms to share one bath. I think you looked at the laundry shoot, it looked like a little cubby. The wine bottle and glasses gave me one of two vibes.....either the owners were saying goodbye to their beloved home, or they were celebrating the chunk of money they made on the sale.......either way it's sad.....

The windows in the ground floor family room are so old, they’re not even insulated. That Hampton Bay ceiling fan is not old though. Parts of this big house look updated, I’m guessing the areas that the elderly lived in.

They get a bulldozer and there she goes. Such a huge waste of perfectly good items. When you are a millionaire, money is like water. Easy come, easy go. Just like the homes we've seen with very expensive furniture left behind. Heck, that's nothing to these people because they just go purchase more. Rather than bothering to move the "old" stuff out. Only poor and middle class people cannot really understand this concept. I just moved and I brought every piece of cheap unmatching furniture with me. And as much as I would have loved to have left it behind. I unfortunately cannot afford to purchase new pieces to replace my old.

This was not by means an average home for the year. it is a shame that it will be replaced with a McMansion made of drywall and plastic...
The city I live in was built up in the 40's to 60's. The homes here are too expensive to tear down so we still have most of the original homes in the city. My place is part of a tract of duplex''s that were built in 1940's for housing near Lochkeed.

I love your video’s 👍🏾...I don’t understand why developers don’t try to save homes of these earlier eras there is a lot more character in these homes than the newer cookie cutter homes...the house and surroundings is in great condition does my head in to think it’s being demolished. Your doing well Ethan 👍🏾💖

Ethan, I am so pleasantly surprised how much you appreciate within these older homes, considering your age! So many discontinued aspects that I love of architecture you point out, things unknown today as being useful or even a possibility in building today. It takes an eye for style and some good taste to notice these elements. Thank you for your persistence in finding these prize properties and archiving them, it's really important! In the future we will be using these ideas again, I have no doubt. This home is very unusual, as its art deco features are seldom seen in abandoned places. I do hope architectural salvage comes in to save all the fixtures that can be installed in other properties. Keep up the great work!! 👌👌
Also, you can certainly tell the Hollywood connection by the sheer number of mirrors inside, LOL!

For a 1940s home the architect/builder were way ahead of there time, that house was stunning. The room you guys said was warm looked like they had the heating on to dry the plaster board. The basement wasn't creepy thank goodness, but for that era maybe that area was for servants. The laundry shoot would have been in the bathroom or hallway maybe, that's where we have them here in Australia. Great video so sad history will be torn down. Thank you from Australia Ethan x

Yes! I was thinking 🤔... could parts of Mommy Dearest have been filmed here? I wonder exactly who lived in this home, and what old Hollywood stars were frequent quests. Also, would the new owners be utilizing that great steel banister or cool Art Deco fixtures? My guess is they are selling them to some type of architectural warehouse etc. The outdoor stone loggia and garden are simply other worldly. I personally grew up in a ultra modern home, that quickly became dated. I always told myself my home would be classic and I would fill it with wonderful pieces that and would retain value and never go out of style. Fast forward to today, my 25 year old who did grow up in my dream home that became a reality- recently told me, he could not wait to create his dream home that would be high tech and super modern! He would refer to my antiques as “anfreaks”! LOL ! karma for telling my parents I hated living in our Jetson Space Ship!
Beauty really is in the eye of the beholder.

Other than the green bathroom, there isn't a thing in this house I would change. It's stunning. Whoever demolishes it needs their head checking.
Edit just to say, I've never thought of moving to the States before, but I would for this house. The walkway at the end swung it for me. I can't believe something so beautiful is going to be destroyed. I need to sell up and move quickly to stop it!
