Favourite group EUROVISION 2024
Norway 🇸🇯 in TOP
Great reaction! I am so passionate about this entry and I will most likely give all my votes to them 🇩🇪🖤🇳🇴
Gåte is one of the greatest scandinavian bands ever!
So Gåte's text is based on and distilled from an ancient ballad about a maiden who lost her mother when she was born, but later got a stepmother. The stepmother was so jealous of the girl that she transformed her first into a sword and placed it in the king's courtyard. However, the girl's inherent goodness also manifested in the sword, even though she had been changed into an object. All the finest knights and soldiers favoured this sword above all other swords, and the envious stepmother then transformed the maiden into a needle. The most skilled tailors loved this needle and sewed the most beautiful clothes with it. The stepmother grew even angrier and turned the girl into a wolf, cursing her to roam the forest forever, unable to rid herself of the wolf form unless she drank her brother's blood. And so it was. The maiden wandered through the woods. For eight years, the stepmother stayed indoors, afraid to venture out because she knew the wolf maiden was out there. But then she became pregnant and wanted to go to church. The wolf pounced on her, seized the stepmother's blue cloak, pulled her off her horse, tore out her heart, and drank her blood and thereby also her brother's blood. With that act, the curse and enchantment were lifted, and the maiden emerged, just as beautiful and kind as before, and returned home to her father.
I think we found your favourite this year!!
It absolutely could be so far!!!!
@@LocalBandSmokeout you should do some previous years too it could be a great addition to your channel
Gåte is a fantastic live band and has always taken their pride in that. Their concerts are magical, legendary. The violin-like instrument is a Keyharp. The lyrics is based on an ancient norse story. An evil stepmother casts a spell on the girl because of her beauty, cursing her into a wolf, making her doomed to forever wander the woods alone. To break the spell the curse includes forcing her to kill her brother and drink his blood. The maiden conquers the spell without doing so and good wins over evil.
The name GÅTE means 'riddle, enigma, mystery'.
The letter Å in GÅTE is pronounced similar as the first letter A in 'always'. Thank you for your fine, enthusiastic review.
Gåte’s music is a dark, mesmerizing and stunningly beautiful take on Nordic folk. Where they flirt with elements from traditional Norse and pagan music as well as from more modern genres like rock and industrial.
The chorus is a socalled KULOKK, - the maiden calling the cattle in from the the mountains. The roots of this song is a thousand years old.
Great reaction!
Great reaction. I love how enthusiastic that you are about this entry. It's a great song with some clear traditional elements as well as hyper modern ones 🎶. Greetings here from Norway 🇳🇴
Thank you
^ Gåte's official channel :D You guys rock the world! I just love Gunnhild's voice so much. It's so full of primal energy!
Love your reaction and Ulveham:
They are a professional band. Been together for over 20 years.
[Verse 1]
I was such a fair and sightly maiden
With an evil stepmother, my mother she died
She turned me into a sword and a needle
And sent me to the king's estate
And the anger my stepmother felt the most
That all the stately liked me best
[Chorus: Vocalization]
[Verse 2]
Then she gave me skin like a grey wolf
She cursed me to walk the forest alone
And never will I be wholе and good
Before I drink my brothers' blood
[Chorus: Vocalization]
[Outro: Vocalization, Storm]
I thеn tore out her heart
So her blood flowed free
Then I got to drink my brothers' blood
[FUN FACT: Artists in the Norway national selection had the opportunity to use auto-tune for their performances. She declined.]
The crowd was wild, you are right! I was in it, such a high 🥳🥳 your should check out Svarteboka 👏🏻👏🏻
So glad you liked Gåte! They are actually a staple band of norway, and their album Jygri (2003) is one I still listen to a lot. Back then they did not make a lot of mvs, but I think you would like the music if you want to check it out. Most lyrics can be found translated, either on lyricpages, lyricvideos or in the comments. I have even translated one of them in the comments of Stengd Dør, one of my favorites. One of their more recent songs is Kom no Diskja, which has an MV. I haven't heard one bad song from them before, so I think you cant go wrong. Most songs you will definitely like better if you understand the lyrics, but they are inspired/use a lot of old folksongs/tales with old norwegian, which most norwegians doesn't understand but can still jam to, so I think they can go international with their style even if they keep to norwegian.
Love it!
Norwegian speaker here. The å is pronounced as aw (rhyming with saw), so it's Gaw-Teh. 👍
Norway❤
As a Norwegian who doesn't really care that about much Eurovision, I'm just happy that they captured such an intrinsically Norwegian sound. No matter if they win, lose or place in the middle :)
I can dig that 🤘
Cool reaction👍
In my opinion, the two biggest loses from this year would be Annalisa from Italy (though I have to say, Angelina Mango is my winner so it seems like Italy would've been my number one either way) and Maria Sur from Sweden (though I also like Marcus and Martinus a lot). I've been watching national finals since 2017 and it's the first time I felt so bad for two entries not going to the contest. I legit wanted them to apply for a different country so they can participate in the contest at any cost.
By the way, I completely agree with Norway, it's in my top 5 as well. Norway is usually a very strong country in the contest, last year they ended 3rd in televote and 5th overall (didn't have much luck with the juries).
I don't know if you can watch the live Eurovision from your country or if you're even interested (the two semifinals are 2-3 hours each and the grand final 4-5 hours if I'm not mistaken); but I'd suggest you to at least watch the voting from the grand final (especially the televoting).
When is the televised live final? I can find a way to tune in ;)
@@LocalBandSmokeout Grand final is in May 11th, whereas the semis are in May 7th and May 9th
Thanks for your kind reaction. You can find the pronounsiation of "Gåte" and "ulveham" if you go to Google Translate and translate from Norwegian to English. Just press the loudspeaker symbol.
Great reaction! Band name is pronounced GAW-teh and translates to "riddle". Song name translates to "wolf skin".
Also means enigma. Not just riddle
@@ladythalia227 Absolutely, and that fits the band better

Yes 10!
Its about a girl who got cursed by her stepmom to become a graywolf and have to drink blod from her brothers heart to break the spell if I understand it right. Gåte means enigma
Do yourself a favor by reacting to Svarteboka (The Black Book)
Gåte feat. DJERV - Svarteboka (Official Music Video)
Gåte is pronounced Gowte and means Riddle/enigma
you should also check out Gothminister - We Come Alive, it was also in the finale
..it`s a Swedish instrument , Nyckelharpe : later : Norway adopted it.. Swedish and Norwegian Language and words are very similar -to this day : Sweden is the "big brother" of Norway in the Scandinavian terminology. There are many more people in Sweden. More then twice the number of Norway .. But we still compete / cooperates.. both.. 🙂
"Ulver Ham! ..is not right . Ulve Ham means something to Norwegians and Sweeds . We do compete , but at the same time we are brothers and sisters , and now , more than before!!
Can you please react to BE:FIRST "Gifted. Orchestra ver."? Their live performance in this video is amazing!!
"UlveHam" = Wolfs ham , Wolf skin , wolf ham
Love your reaction, hun. But please don't call them Gate. It's Gåte, said like Go-tay. It means riddle in Norwegian. Not a gate.
Magnus Børmark, tossing guitars since 1999.
...,how difficult can it be???
Its not gate xD a is not the same as å 😆
Haallloooo cant hear you whats you saying smoking mits whats that
I don't like it ! I think there will be too much screaming and not a text that captures me and i am from Norway. The only thing I like is the rhythm. Gåte is against Israel and did not want to show up in May in Malmö but changed his mind
Norway and Switzerland are my favourite this year .
Me too.
One of the greatest from Scandinavia!
Top 3? It's Top 1 for me 🖤💚🖤
Thanks for reacting, pls. keep on discovering them.
The song is a dark one. It tells the story about how "she" was a young girl with an evil stepmother, cuz her mother died.
She gets sent to the king, as a tool for the stepmother. When everyone at the king's place liked her the most, the evil stepmother cursed her.
She became a wolf, and had been sworn by her stepmother that she would walk the woods alone, never to become whole again before she had tasted her brothers blood.
The full version of the song will tell furthermore that she in the end got to her evil stepmother, who happened to be pregnant with her unborn brother. The girl (who still was cursed as a wolf) killed the setpmother, ripped up her heart and drank the blood. That way, she got to drink her brothers blood, and the curse was lifted.
Personally I like the band, and the song is well made. Folk music, using a norwegian instrument called "langeleik", mixed with metal (which is soooo norwegian!) :)
Awesome reaction🤗🤘
The instrument is a nøkkelharpe/nyckelharpa/key harp, a traditional Swedish instrument which is also used in Norway and other countries👍
I love this song and performance, and I’m so glad we’re sending Gåte (gaw-teh) with this original song to Malmö🤘
The genre is folk/rock.
Gåte has been a band since 1999 , with a pause in between, so they know what they're doing.
About the song:
The intro is an old “kulokk”.
A “kulokk” is how the women called/calls the cows home to be milked in the summer (often in the mountains)
So the chorus is inspired by this “kulokk”
The song itself is inspired by a norwegian medieval folklore/ballade.
Ulveham means wolfskin
English lyrics:
[Sample: Vocalization; Marit Jensen Lillebuen]
[Verse 1]
I was such a beautiful maiden
My stepmother evil, my mother she died
She turned me into a sword and a needle
And sent me to the king's estate
And the anger my stepmother felt the most
That all the stately liked me best
[Chorus: Vocalization]
[Verse 2]
Then she gave me skin like a grey wolf
She cursed me to walk the forest alone
And never will I bе whole and good
Before I drink my brothеrs' blood
[Chorus: Vocalization]
Check out their song “Svarteboka” featuring Djerv
Greetings from Norway🥰
Thanks for the comment and notes on how to pronounce their name ❤️🤘
Don't forget those 3 lines with lyrics that is whispered/growled in the bakgrund during the last round of the chorus. There they're telling the rest of the story where the main character in the story killed her pregnant stephmother, ripped her open and got to drink her brother's blood :-)
Its not only a traditinal swedish instrument. I Belive its from sweden but its a nordic folke music instrument
@@100kwithvideo Did I say it was only a traditional Swedish instrument?🤔😉
@@lillm6874 true but You said only that it was a traditinol swedish instrument
Thank you for the love
Its a very dark text and old. Im prowed🇳🇴. But sad they have to take away the text, some stupid people say they canånt use it becouse its over 1000 year old medieval ballad. They have to make a new text, its sooo sad 😢. She sings- I was a fare and thin maisen. With a stepmother evil,my mother died
She turned me into a sword and a needle
And send me off to the king's court
And my stepmother's anger felt the most
When everyone food liked me the best
She gave me a wolf gray fur
She swore I would walk alone in the forest
And I will never be whole and well
Before I drink my brother's blood
TAKK so MUCH❤❤❤ -And btw ...Gåte means RIDDLE🙃 Love from Ever 🫠🙏🥰🍀
Or enigma.
It's a 1000 year old story, I advise everyone to read it, it's magic (literally) 🥰
This band was performing with their souls 🎉
"Gåte" means riddle and "Ulveham" means wolfs skin
3 another beautiful songs from Gåte: "Svarteboka", "Huldra" and "Kom no disjka"
Thank you 💖💖🇧🇻
YES! That’s the appropriate response, well done.
🤘😈🤘
Great reaction! The lyrics is based on an old folklore/song. Abd the style of her singing is also based on an old tradition.
You need to give the rest of their catalouge a listen.
Snåle mi jente
Til deg
Sjå attende
Etc. Loads of goodies for ya
They have a long history and many records.. Their debut-album Jygri from 2002 is fantastic (Singer was only 17 I think then).
..When You see this word : In a foreign Language , You will emmediately : think : "this is an English word????" .."gate" ??? ..come on!!! Why!!!??? GÅTE = "Gawte" = Riddle.. ..come on... please...
Also check out Svarteboka, i promise goosebumps!
I still can't get over the fact that you haven't checked Megara singing for San Marino yet ... if there is an entry I KNOW you will love, then definitely that one ;) The official non-ESC Video is worth checking out too (even though it lacks the sexy skellies ;)
As for Gåte : it's good by ESC standards, but it falls back on the long, drawn out notes many other ESC entries feature, and which, imo, gets a bit boring over time.
