  • The curtain has closed on another dramatic Premier League season, but for three teams, it ends in disappointment. In this video, we analyse and disect the season of the relegated clubs: Luton Town, Burnley and Sheffield United.
What went wrong for each team? Was it a lack of squad depth, tactical miscalculations, or simply bad luck?
We'll dissect their struggles and discuss what the future holds for them in the Championship. Will they bounce back quickly, or face a longer road to regaining their top-flight status?
Join the discussion and share your thoughts on the relegated teams down below.

everyone seems to be forgetting that last year none of the promoted teams went down

Forest broke the rules and Fulham had an established squad + manager. Not often that happens

@@outsidethebox-TW i could be wrong but hasn't what happened this season where all 3 promoted clubs went straight back down not happened since 1998?

It is really hard to stay up in that first season but once you can get past the first 1-2 years like Crystal Palace, Brighton, Brentford have done then you can stay in league and potentially for a long time.

Maybe because this years teams were crap. And it isn't like the Premier League is the only league with this issue... in fact newly promoted teams to the Premier League have a higher chance of staying up than the other top 5 leagues.

I still think it’s very difficult to get promoted and sustain it without a huge amount of investment.

Dont think it's ever been easy for promoted teams, and I doubt it ever will be. There's obviously a giant step between the big boys and the rest of the football pyramid, meaning we very rarely see back to back promotions (teams finishing high in the pl), far more common in the rest of the football league. BUT, lower league teams will always come up, look at Wrexham's rise for example, and point deductions will always come in. Last year the promoted bunch all did great but this season they were unusually bad, Sheffield's squad was dismantled. Luton lost their captain, and weren't really prepared for it, and Burnley took too long to adjust.

Luton were actually really good this season they lost their captain locks though which mightve cost them 💔

They still had the 16th lowest ever points tally…

i would say promoted teams need more leniency with ffp rules. For example nottingham forest selling a player a month later than they should have for a better price realisticly should be encouraged. Doing this could help teams that looked half decent such as luton stay up

I agree to an extent, but then it becomes even more about money and more distanced from the EFL

This seasons teams were just crap. Leicester and Southampton have a good chance of staying up next year as they play good football and have players that have performed well in the prem previously.

True but Leicester are skint and losing their manager. I think Ipswich stand a better chance with their momentum. Southampton should be fine, especially with some of the loanees returning.

@@outsidethebox-TW Tbf Ipswich might do alright. I had anticipated McKenna leaving but apparently he is staying now so good for them. Should be interesting next seasons campaign.

Wrong teams going up in the first place. Burnley are a decent club. Sheffield United were completely unprepared and Luton were the fairytale story.
Next year I think Ipswich will go back down. They've had a massive rise and will struggle. Leicester are a mid table Prem team, Southampton around there too.

Who do you think should’ve gone up instead then? Burnley got 101 points and Blades got 91…

@wobytestwood3099 like I said Burnley are a decent club over the last 10 years, they gambled on keeping things the same and if they hadnt gifted so many goals trying to be open theyd probably have stayed up. Sheffield United aren't at their level yet.
Similar to Southampton and Ipswich, Ipswich finished higher in the league but Southampton have a higher ceiling.
